I drove a 1955 Kenworth water truck , back in '94. It was on a Uranium mill tailings disposal project. The guy I worked for had mostly old trucks. His grandson took over the company years ago, and got rid of them. It was faded red, ( pink) and white. 4x4 transmission, torsion bar suspension, air assist power steering that would intermittently steer easy, then hard.

That low pressure warning arm above the drivers face brings back memories, when I was a boy I would ride with my Dad in his cabover KW one day we were docked at the shipper Dad was inside, truck was off and I was behind the wheel playing truck driver and that low pressure valve spewed and fell down MAN you have never seen someone clear a cabover so fast in your life, I swear I peed my pants 👖 I went on to driver 28 years OTR and logged over 3 million miles and loved every single day of it.

Grandpa, dad, and uncle were truck drivers as am I. Was brought up very old school. I'm 41 but in this industry all my life. I remember driving an old pete with a fuel shut off on the dash.
@billmoran3812
@billmoran3812 2 жыл бұрын
When I was a kid, all trucks and buses had those wig wags. They also had “dry road-slippery road” switches on the dash. They reduced the front brake application pressure on slippery roads. That was outlawed in the 70’s.

Wow, reminds me of back in the mid eighties when I got hired at a stone quarry. I was trained to drive the bellydump trucks. I remember the low pressure flag hanging down and it being 1:00 am and waiting on the pressure to fill up so the air brakes would work. I worked 12 hour days hauling material from the pit to the plant to be processed into gravel.

Hey Mother Trucker. That kind of brought tears to my eyes. My grandfather bought his first truck in 1933 and listed on the National Van Lines and retired in 1973. My father bought his first truck in 1953 period after he got out of the Navy. I'm 57 now and I literally grew up in a truck pulling a moving van I miss good old Trucking.
