He also uses it right after he hits Quill, Nebula and Drax with a blast from the power stone. The theory being he wanted to take them out with the power stone but didn't want to go as far as killing them. The soul stone kept them alive. Asthe blast hits them it goes in slow motion and you can briefly see the Soul stone lit up as the camera switches back to Thanos.

@@MasterCleife ya know, it kinda irks me that he suddenly goes all anti murder to the point of flexing infinity stones to keep from even accidental casualties. Prior to this, he was a vicious warlord. Even with his "purpose," he would casually wipe out massive groups of people. He "decimated" Zandar for the Power Stone, and he went way too hard on Asgardians without a care. What I mean there is Hella and Surtr already wrecked Asgard and Thor had refugees with him. Thanos still halved them, and then halved again with the snap. He had promised Ronan to help with planet destruction, casually tortures his own adopted daughter and anyone else he pleases, murdered Heimdall just for teleporting a downed warrior off the ship, and generally doesn't come off as particularly moral. His 2014 self in Endgame gloated about plans to enjoy murdering Earth's people and in general shred the universe completely. But Infinity War Thanos didn't want to hurt anyone... Why lol

@@NeoConker626 as he gathered the stones he became near omnipotent. That's why he sheds his armour when he puts on the space stone. He still wants to wipe out half of life but he figures that he doesn't really need to decide to kill anyone, the stones can decide who lives and dies. The way he's fighting is like a parent holding a tantruming child at arms length to stop them from hitting them. This is what annoys me when people ask why 2014 Thanos was more dangerous in Endgame. I always say, no he wasn't, he lost, 2018 Thanos won.

@@MasterCleife my (joking) answer about 2014 is that Infinity War Thanos basically multiclassed into a more magic based class. Basically joking and applying taletop rpg logic. 2014 Thanos is a high level fighter with powerful unique and possibly enchanted fighter equipment. Infinity War Thanos has incredibly powerful magical artifacts but he's level 1 in that class and has gotten rid of his standard armor and weapon. If the heroes take advantage of his inexperience with the energy abilities, then he's finding himself nerfed in close combat due to only hand to hand options and almost no protective armor. Plus there was this semi pacifistic attitude we are discussing that kicked in around that time. 2014 Thanos was at his peak for that time of his life and fight like a berserk barbarian. This is the guy who casualled the Hulk, so of course he was a monster in a straight up melee fight. You ever play a game and get a new ability, and keep trying to use it to test your new thing even if it's not strategically the best? Thanos on Titan was super focused on clenching his fist and the heroes used a strategy of hit and run tactics plus hax to prevent that. I'm Endgame there was a direct blitz attempt with a lot of close blows and grapples.

@@NeoConker626 The way I saw it, he "Flexed" the Stones as he got them to practice his newfound abilities. Thanos isn't just gifted, and talented, e's also got centuries of training and experience. So, he would keep training, and gaining new experience as he has the opportunity. The more he uses his weapons, the better he is at using them. (Also, it's a cool way for the writers to show us in the audience what he's capable of now.)

I always thought he was surprised by Cap's sheer force of will to hold him back and actually succeeding, for being just an ordinary looking human. T'Challa has essentially the same powers as Steve (and better gear) but went down easy. Steve didn't.

@@SuperGoose42 I think with the soul stone it would be more about what’s inside Steve he was worthy of Thor’s hammer, with the soul stone it was brought to Thanos’s attention probably explains the shear force Thanos used to (possibly) kill Steve at that moment instead of throwing him away he did with black panther or rest of the Avengers.

@@jameslynn9913 I'm just not convinced he used the soul stone in that moment. Pretend Thanos didn't have the stone at all and watch this scene again. Every other avenger doesn't even touch Thanos, but Cap got up after being knocked down once already, got a couple hits in, and even held the titan's hand back. No other ordinary human came close to that level of determination and will, so it makes sense Thanos would look at him curiously/impressed, almost in the same way he respects Stark and his force of will

The writers confirmed that Infinity Ultron wasn’t truly using the power of the infinity stones in other universes. The stones allowed him to project himself into other universes and enhance his own capabilities that he already had as Ultron (which definitely makes him a formidable threat in any universe), but it does seem the writers intended to maintain that what Infinity Stones can actually do outside of their own universe is extremely limited.

Being able to use Infinity stones from another Universe at all still leaves the movie Timeline vulnerable while leaving plenty of Stone that can, By whatever reasoning, be used to harm the "Main" timeline. This makes Destroying the Infinity Stones a move that: 1) Does not protect your reality from the stones, 2) Invites extra dimensional threats to strike at the vulnerable universe.

Infinity Ultron had to gather the 6 stones from gamoras universe too.

I feel like all the stones had a condition to be met to obtain them. And that the other stones had already been obtained in a time before. Like maybe the sorcerer who had the Time stone did something or gave something in order to get it.

In the movies we didn't see it do much, but the comics do give a better answer. It's not as overtly powerful as some of the others but it is "alive" and has a universe inside it. It lets the user trap souls inside and use their knowledge and abilities. You can "read" a soul, kind of like an alternative to mind reading. It protects you from soul attacks, so no one else can remove or burn your soul (should be able to tank Ghost Rider's penance stare for example). You can reveal a soul's true nature, so that's why many assume he used it to get through Dr Strange's illusion of multiple bodies. And in general it can give control over life and lifeforce. So it doesn't do anything flashy, but it's arguably one of the most integral stones in the snap.

Problem is you are basing your assumption on "back to the future" style time travel; which consists of a single timeline, where actions taken in the past affect the timeline; altering the future. The WHOLE POINT of the MCU time travel is that each change creates a branch, resulting is the infinite different realities or "multiverse" style time travel. Remember the convo the avengers had about how someone going to the past means that the future, which from their frame of reference is their own past experiences, cannot be altered in the past as those "future" events are already memories to the traveler, memories of events that already transpired for the traveler. Making a change in the past results in a branch. This creates a new timeline. It does not alter a single, prime reality.

The Russo Brothers said that the time Stones had to be replaced in their proper spot to avoid a separate timeline but yet they killed a thanos from another timeline in our timeline think about it,and if so thanos couldn't use the stones from a alternate universe!

But I think, larger than this particular conundrum, is that the MCU isn't putting but a fraction of time and energy into all these fan theories and universe mechanics as we all are. If an issue arises we tend to get a half-assed "if you look at it this way, and consider the ___, you'll see that in fact....." lots of fixing things in hindsight with a creative conversation (aka; Hollywood BULLSHIT 😉.) They feel like patches, not clarifications. In a universe where Ant-man is super strong due to his mass being retained in such a small volume, yet the characters can still pick up a miniaturized building and tank, which should also retain their full sized masses, I feel that any of their after-the-fact explanations should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Imma take one last stab at presenting my counterpoint. When Thanos (the one from the past who travels to the present) time travels, that choice creates a split. Thanos, in traveling and changing his future from what we "knew," becomes Thanos². Thanos¹ never time traveled, he collected stones, did the snap. Thanos, in following Nebula (becoming Thanos²,) created a different verse. Your paradox, as I understand it, is that killing Thanos², who is the earlier version of Thanos¹, undoes all the events Thanos¹ would eventually cause. What im saying is the moment Thanos¹ travels through time, becoming Thanos², the causal relationship dissolves. Because with multiple universes being birthed at every point of choice, both paths, both choices, exist simulatenously. Thanos chose to time travel, (events of endgame,) but he ALSO chose to not time travel (events of IW.) The Thanos who never runs into good Nebula and stays Thanos¹, causes the events of IW, and inspires the Avengers¹ to instigate their time heist. When they return from the past with stones in tow, they would be returning to a time where Thanos¹ has already done all his IW dirt, retired to his gardening, then killed. Thanos² comes in, from the past, looking to shortcut the efforts leading up to IW (learned from good Neb's memories.) But THIS Thanos, T², is not responsible for the snap. He hasn't collected the stones, snapped out 1/2 erryone, any of that. He skipped all that in favor of jumping to the end.. To get your paradox, the avengers would have to take out Thanos¹, at a point in time before he did the snap. (Again, Banner explains that they can't change the past this way, ala BTtF style time travel - whether or not you are a fan is irrelevant...every avenger experienced the snap, 5 years in their past. Traveling back in time from that point makes all events, their actions taken in their pasts, means that those new events in the Past are their immediate future, relative to them. And the events from the Future, yet to happen to the denizens of the Past, are memories for those displaced avengers, it is their past. And they can't change their past, even if it is the future for the ppl of the Past line. Changes to the Past cause splits going forward, it doesn't rewrite those upcoming events.) Killing Thanos² doesn't undo anything; he didn't cause any of the events of IW. That was Thanos¹. As for replacing the stones, they were to be replaced at the same time as removal so as to avoid further splits to those timelines. Hopefully this is more clear. Cheers.

If he knew Tony wouldn't quit and that he'd continue to fight and turn it around after he bargained with Strange, and obtained the stone why did he not say You're to much of a liability to allow to live and either kill him or since he had nearly all the stones send Tony into a reality where he couldn't interfere or somehow change back.

​@@Winter-mn8mb I think the stone gave him a simple knowledge about Stark soul and his will power, but not his future. Thanos felt threatened because of it, but not saw the extension of the threat. Thanos, as Nebula said in Endgame, is not a liar, so when he made a deal with Strange, he kept it.

Tbh Thanos is a man of his word. I don't think he took the deal because he saw Tony as a non threat.

@@aerow6192 What I meant was, with the time stone in his hands, he already had 5 of the 6 infinity stones and he knew that the mind stone was on earth. So to Thanos, his plans were coming to an end within maybe days, hours or even less. So that's why he really didn't see Tony Stark as a threat to his plans. SO, He held his end of the bargain. Well, that's my opinion!

@@stephandelange1776 but I think what Aerow was saying is that regardless of what motivation caused Thanos to accept the deal, once it was made, thanos was going to keep his side of the bargain, as he is a man of his word. I believe Aerow's assertion is that even if Thanos determined that Tony would be the single greatest threat to the success of his grand design, once the bargain was struck & his word given, his personal code of honor/morality would not have allowed him to go back on his promise.

Well, about the souls stone thing, we can try to force why Ultron and Killmonger could wield the soul stone: Killmonger had already sacrificed people that he cared about, from his both sides (as an America and Wakanda citizen) to achieve his goals, and Ultron sacrificed a lot of and were motivated to sacrifice all forms of living existences, to achieve his goal of provide his definition of true peace to the universe. To wield the stone the user needs to comprehend its power, Killmonger, as Tony and Banner, gained the comprehension through sacrifice. Ultron could have understand cause of the same reason, as I theorized before, but he also could comprehend it cause he is the ultimate AI, who also wielded the mind stone, so he could instantly process the necessary knowledge to comprehend its power. But again, as almost every MCU fan theory, I'm forcing a lot and the creators most definively did not thought about it.
