It was. And you can grab a Phaeton V10 TDI for anywhere between 2 and 3k E today. In fairly good shape too. Wanna guess why? You guessed it. Utter junk.

They are not only rare because it is technically hard to build them. They properly are one of the last V10 diesels ever delivered in trucks and cars. Since Diesel is already heavily illuminated by environmentalists, it is likely that they will never be created again! They are very special and one of the best-sounding diesels ever. Love the sound of them! 😄🖒

I've just read on the news that the environmentalists are now concerned because people are slowly getting more petrol cars as result of bashing the diesels into oblivion. And because people are not buying more electric or hybrid cars the co2 levels are going to increase. What a surprise!

Great video as always. But there is also the MTU MB 838 Cam-500. A supercharged Diesel V10 with 38 Liters of displacement. I have a video of it running ... ;)

i love rolling coal. however the older ones do it because they are all mechanical and overfuel at times. if more air was added or some fuel pulled they will clean right up

They are rare cause its is definetly very hard to balance out 5 inline cylinders or in V10 config, for example: I5 2.5 Turbo Diesel of Volvo

The V-10 Nissan Diesel engine is very common here in Indonesia, it is used for carrying fuel tanks. Just like in the video.

DD V-types included six, eight, 12, 16 and 24 cylinder versions, but sadly no 10's...would've sounded incredible though 😃

The Dodge Magnum V10 was purely a petrol engine. As was the Ford Super Duty V10. Both were basically their respective manufacturer's truck V8 engines with two extra cylinders tacked on. For Dodges, the diesel they used was the Cummins I-6, and Ford had their own PowerStroke Diesel V8. General Motors meanwhile never really used V10s (as far as I'm aware), and their current diesel truck engine is the DuraMax V8 diesel.

Funny fact : The MAN D2840 and Mercedes Benz OM423 uses the same Crankcase. Same with the MAN D2540 and Mercedes OM403. The difference between the engines are the cylinder heads and the pistons (sizes are the same) due its combustion process

The Agera RS on e85 runs 1.4Bar with his 5.0 Liter V8, some Trucks run over 2.5Bar and in the 80' qualifying Formula One run over 5 Bar with 1.5l engines and water injection.

Leave it to me to come up with an obscure addition. There is a V10 version of the Pielstick PC4.2 4-stroke marine diesel. It displaces 98000 cubic inches, has a bore and stroke of 22.5 x 24.0 inches, and makes 17000 Hp at 400 rpm.

I can see why the Nissan was UD. Sitting there and idling with 60psi of oil pressure and pushing 110 when it is revved up. Of course my 6.7 Cummins does about the same for idle but doesn't get above 85-90 psi when revved up cold. When warm looking closer to 60 psi while cruising down the road.

Japanese truck brands had manufactured v10 diesel engines like isuzu and fuso Isuzu produced the 10PC1,10PD1,10PE1,10TD1 and the V10SS engine And fuso produced the 10DC6,10DC8,10DC11,10M20 and the 10M21 engin

there are practical reasons v-10 diesels are rare. First off a larger cylinder makes it easier to obtain the compression required for compression engines inhibition . Second one of the main reasons for adding cylinders to a gas engine is to allow higher revs for more horse power. With high torque at lower rpm the higher revs aren't necessary to get that horsepower in a diesel engine.
