Birthday Blessings to Matt! I've tried a bunch of mac and cheese recipes too, and our favorite is my husband's Auntie Bev's. Hers is easy peasy to make and takes an hour in the oven, which gives me time to relax a bit before dinner. I put an entire stick of butter on the top of it, sliced with a cheese slicer and it gets soooooo brown on top. Like you, I've varied the cheeses over the years and used up bits and bobs of cheese left in the refrigerator.

I love macaroni & cheese. My mom’s recipe ( please don’t ask for measurements) lol, mama didn’t measure. She always used Velvetta cheese when making Mac n cheese. Milnot milk , butter, an egg, garlic powder, red pepper, a little flour , after mixing those ingredients, she’d cube her cheese & bake in the oven. Stir as needed until the cheese had melted.., 😋😋😋! I’m so glad I helped in the kitchen. My aunts & uncle say I cook just like my mama, their sister . My grandma was a good cook too. I’ve taken over the tradition of making chow chow for the family. One of my aunts told me mine was better than grandma’s & mama. My grandma would be proud , my mom would rollover in her grave! She was competitive ! 😂! Love & really miss her. My brother & I was plan on continuing our family traditions!!

That is exactly the recipe for mac & cheese I use. It is always a winner! I also use up whatever cheese I have. Happy Birthday Matt.

I add ground mustard to mine too, and use bacon grease whenever I have it along with the butter to make the roux. I also add a little cream cheese if I have it, and a touch of paprika, my West Virginia grandmother always added a little paprika on top! Love homemade macaroni!

This is how my family makes our mac'n'cheese. I've never seen anyone else who made it like this. So yummy and creamy. We live in Michigan but my parents are from California and I learned this from my mom, so the dish has moved all over!

I am going to have to try this creamy mac and cheese! I was lucky enough to have two Appalachian grandmothers who made two different styles of mac and cheese. I loved both kinds - one with eggs as well as milk, to use the surplus on their dairy farm, and always sharp cheddar; the other more like this one, with cayenne or paprika, mustard powder, black pepper, and a creamy Velveeta sauce, with cornflake crumbs on top, as she worked in the bleachery 9 to 5 and was very happy for convenience foods like cornflake crumbs and Velveeta that came out in the 50s, to save time when she got home at night. I've sort of combined their two recipes to make my own, but I adore making new ones. My favorite shot in this video was the whole table at the end - that meal is exactly what Mamaw made us for Easter, plus some devilled eggs and a banana pudding with meringue on top. The holy smoke cake looks amazing! Happy birthday, Matt!

Everything looks delicious! I remember the recipe for boxed macaroni and cheese perfectly because I made so much of it when the children were younger especially during family vacations up north. A cold rainy day here in Michigan your meal would warm anyones heart.

Yet another wonderful trip down Memory Lane. Growing up in Africa we would have macaroni cheese regularly. Just before sprinkling the last layer of cheese on the dish, we would add sliced tomatoes and then the cheese. Delicious!
