I’ve seen many comments about this so I want to address it. My statement should have started out with “I’m not referring to people in toxic situations” . . . For those of us who had to endure, leave by any means necessary! (I had to leave a toxic environment when I was a teenager) - but I still suggest that you find someone else to stay with if you can so you can stack your dollars until you get on your feet.
Stay home, stack your dollars!! 💵💵

I am asian. In our culture children leave the home when they are getting married or if school and work is far from home. But as for me, growing up being physically and verbally abused by my own depressive mother is a lot. I suffered from so much trauma as a child. Whenever my mother would be lost in her mental state, I was beaten up, pointed knives at. I go to school full of bruises almost daily. So when i got the opportunity to study far away i did my best to escape her. After graduating i came back again then she just still do the same thing and she doesn't want me their since i have no job and she is not getting anything from me so i did my best to find and job then when i did, i started supporting my youngest brother to college and at the same time support my parents since they don't have jobs already that time. I thought that will make her happy but No. The abuse kept going and more pressure so decided to move away since I can already support myself. Since then had been better. Unfortunately the impact of the trauma hits me already. I now suffer from anxiety and depression. But the only way i feel safe is away from her. I forgave her but the results of what she did to me was something that i will have to take for maybe the rest of my life. Now, I'm living a better life. I am able to provide for myself and for many years have provided for my family too while away from them. I was able to achieve so many things. I am financially stable and living a healthier life. All hardwork paid off.

That is because your friends are idiots... we live in an age with the greatest wealth inequality since the Roaring 20s... there are less opportunities for wealth building now than years prior... most black people dont have shit to pass down to their kids. While non black parents are paying for at least undergrad, black students are racking up student loans. While non black parents are gifting their kids money for a down payment for a house, black parents are kicking their kids out and telling them to compete in a world in which the wealth position of your grandparents is the greatest determinate of your wealth positionality. While non black parents are leaving their kids a significant inheritance upon their death, black folks are having to take care of their parents and in some case even pay out of pocket for their funeral services. People who do their kids like that are just stupid and don't understand anything about the world in which we currently live...

I had to move out after 6mos for my health and my sanity. So I moved to my father's for about a month to recover my health, got a stable job and got my own place.

While living at home you're supposed to be disciplined, save aggressively and skip the temporary fun so that u can have a greater life later when u moved out. I saved and sacrificed for about a year, put down my deposit and 2 months rent and got tf out. Haven't had to go back home since except to visit💯black ppl need to stop hating on those of us who have our own crib and start actually SAVING instead of buying designer to front for fb while Big Mana foots all the bills smh. Our country "used" to make it where you really could move out earlier. Plus this is a "freedom of" country. Freedom of thought, expression, etc and it is heavy with "Independence." So that alone is why we do what we do. Now it "used" to work decades ago. The American Dream and all that stuff, that's how things use to be. However that ended in y2k and its forced us into another culture. Where in other cultures of the world living like this is not only normal but highly encouraged and frowned upon if you try to leave earlier. That's the issue a lot of us are having. The culture shift as it comes to this.

This whole idea that you need to separate yourself from your family at an extremely young (and still vulnerable) age, lose their support, and be an island who only communicates with Uncle Sam and coworkers is an illusion pushed by our handlers. People who live like that benefit them. People with no support group or family structure behind them are perfect. The same way an abusive lover isolates you is exactly what our handlers do. Unless you were raised in a toxic home, stay with your family. As much as you can. There's been a concerted effort to break up family into smaller and smaller units and to isolate people. Nowadays we consider a family as a husband a wife and some kids. A family used to be that, grandma's, grandpa's, uncle, aunts, etc. An entire village. We've been conditioned to separate ourselves from these people and to only focus on being obedient worker drones. Career career school degree work work work 40 hours. Nothing else matters. Thanks for this. More people need to hear this advice.

Yeah for real. The people with money, those who own the workplaces we work on, own the supermarkets we buy from, own the websites we use, they all benefit from a divided society as it is profitable because when people are forced out of the house and right into paying rent and being desperate for work they'll put up with a whole lot more bs than someone who has their housing sorted and people around them. They thrive upon our desperation as it's an easy way to exploit us even more, and milk us for money. This is a wider problem to be honest of how people across society are divided and we are taught suspicion of our neighbours and strangers and that isn't the good type of suspicion in case they're a psycho, it's the type of suspicion of 'I need to one up them so I can get ahead' and that's what happens when society's driven by profit unfortunately, we end up becoming exactly the person we were once suspicious of.

I definitely agree with this. I think if the environment HELPS you make progress as an adult, then stay- but if it’s harmful, get the heck out. I think it’s be so much better if we learned how to treat each other in our families, parent or child, we could build each other (and our community) up rather than struggling on our own (or against each other) all the time.

My goodness gracious what kind of parents are some of you talking about!!! Is it that you don’t want any walls? I’d really want to know what or being put on you that’s considered sanity please tell me? I know the parents aren’t perfect, but if there is any type of cruelty going on in the home, please young children and adults let people know family members from someone because this is just unbelievable you talking about keeping your sanity you’re supposed to be growing and learning and preparing to go out into the real world wow this makes me sad to think that a young child needs to keep the sanity because of the parents!!!

I let my daughter live with me with the understanding that she was going to build her bank account and buy a home. Well, she bought her first home last year and is on her way to building her wealth. There is a stigma in the black community about living at home because a lot of parents don't set the proper expectations but allow their children to live at home and do nothing. We, as parents, must have productive discussions with our children about building wealth and this discussion needs to start at an early age.

Ms. Lynn is so right!!! Stay home young adults. I stayed home for 3 years, then lived with my great aunt for 1.5 years and then I spread my wings and came west. It’s a journey, but stay home and help your parents as long as you can. It’s not easy out here. $1500 is crazy!!!! And for that kinda of money that landlord can keep that place. Started pay $499 for a one room in 2009, moved west and paid $499 base rent for a one bedroom in 2014. Now the rent is $914 in 2021. Working on buying a home right now. It takes time. Just be patient, stay home and save, pay off debt and start a side-hustle. It’s possible. Stay committed.

I agree. Most people I know who live at home 🏡 with their parents don’t know how to budget and spend money 💰 on clothes and shoes (both men and women). Then when they finally move out can’t handle the responsibility. My uncle didn’t live on his own until he got married in his 40’s. He and his wife consistently argued about money 💰. He didn’t like spending money 💰 on bills 💵. I was in my 20’s living in my own. I told him welcome to adulthood. He and that wife divorced.

@@TheeHoneyBadger7093 I don't think it's that at all. Living under the oppressive conditions of yt supremacy was MORE oppressive than we know. Please🙏🏾 read the book 📖 : "The Warmth of Other Suns" and "Caste." Both written by Isabel Wilkinson. The 1st book tells the story of the greatest human migration moving northward from the oppressive South from 1914 to 1970. We would love to bring my parents for our plight but our parents and our grandparents and great grandparents had even more plights than we ourselves so we need to know our history of endurance. So the real question is how did our great grandparents a great grandparents and our parents grow up if Bob and then we can look at ourselves and how we can work with that going forward with our own lives. We STILL have a "HARD ROW TO HOE." So, we're not being "put down." WE have a command from TMH God to show honor to our parents. We shouldn't be speaking of our own parents and grandparents because living under the oppressive system of racism and yt supremacy is a B!T@H! STAY STRONG AND ON CODE!💪🏾

I stayed at home till I was 29 and met my husband .my friends had kids young and moved out young , they would ask why I haven't moved out yet and bragged about having their privacy and could come and go as they please. Baby I could come and go as I please and I was also financially stable when I moved out got married and had a way less stressful transition. With less of the struggle and I didn't care about their criticisms because while they have kids no husband and a ton of bills. I had 2 cars home cooked meals and only 3 bills cellphone, car insurance, and cable. I shopped when I wanted to got my hair and nails done when I wanted to and had a decent savings so my advice Is stay home and live safe and comfortable until you can live that same comfortable life on your own or you marry someone who can help you maintain the same comfort you have at home. Why struggle when you don't have to and don't let your most likely a little jealous friends shame you out of your comfort because they made the mistake of jumping into all those responsibilities alone to soon.
