I’m just starting to use Capacities now. Thanks for sharing your set up. I’m blown away with how it takes the best from all the PKM apps. Question: do you keep tasks in your system or do you use a separate dedicated app? I see that tasks are on their road map, but this might be its only real shortcoming as it is.

@AndresIbanezVasquez

Hey, thought I would weight in on this. You can create an object (which in notion would be called a database) called Tasks, then another object called Projects. You can then inside the database for tasks connect "projects" inside its properties and assign a project to each task. Do this for every project you have. You can then see all tasks you have for project A and even sort them by due date. This is what I am doing at the moment. It is nice because I remember back when I was using Notion I would have to use linked databases with the complicated formulas to have everything connected in just one place. This is more simple to use. Only issue is I have encountered a couple of glitches here and there. Will have to continue trying it out.

Hi Meg, at the moment I use Amplenote and Workflowy (yes and Notion but that is for work), but I want to take notes quickly on the fly and via a mobile device, Android. Currently I use my PKM for legal reviews and audits as I am a safety and environmental manager, but struggle a little with the structure of Capacities. Do you have any advise on learning the best way to get my brain to think in a Capacities way of thinking. Amplenote is a simple task, note and calender app which is great and very secure and Workflowy is an outliner that has made some great improvements but I want them all in one place and not in two apps. I have rambled a little bit any advice would be appreciated. Great vid, well done and keep it going. Karl
@MegShinagawa

It's very hard to make your brain think in a certain way, so it's usually better to use tools that work with how your brain already thinks. That being said though, sometimes your brain just needs to adjust to the tool. My best advice is to play around with Capacities for at least a week if not more to figure out if it's right for you. Try different workflows out and see if they make sense to you. Hope that helps!

Somehow this reminds me of Tumblr 😅 I think it's because of how searching through types of objects and tags work, I like it. So I see the big difference with Obsidian is that it has more built in things? I hate the whole plugin thing in Obsidian, apparently people who like coding and stuff enjoy wasting huge amounts of time trying to have functionalities that Obsidian doesn't have. Like 'oh! This is so customizable!' No, it is just bad design and lack of functionalities that are a huge pain in the ass, sorry. But I think Capacities is only online? So that's why people still will use Obsidian, Anytype and so. I don't know, I don't fully understand how much the privacy thing is an issue with Notion, Capacities, etc. Do they sell your info? Can people access your notes? Or is it just a risk of getting hacked? I don't know. Anyways, good video 🙌
@levoN2420
@levoN2420 9 ай бұрын
It seems to me that there's nothing that cannot be hacked from personal computers to government servers. I always read the privacy statements before I create an account with a service. Password access is the most likely way to get into an account, Capacities has 2-factor authentication.

I personally don't use kanban boards that much in my workflow. That's why it hasn't been a big issue for me when switching to capacities. For the most part, yes. But it's important to understand that the structure of the two apps are fundamentally different. Notion has a database structure, where as Capacities uses an object based structure. You can do a lot of the same things in the two, but how that's done is very different if that makes sense.

So what happens to all your notes and reminders when one day Capacities decides to shut down their website/server etc? And are your notes encrypted end to end? Who keeps the encryption keys? I just started with Anytype, and it works similar to Notion, however it is opensource, free, and E2E encrypted. You can also self host so if they go away, your data DOES NOT. You can even update your notes and tasks offline to later sync.

@MegShinagawa

It really depends on what your needs are so I can't give you a clear answer. Here's my take on it though: - Notion: Best all rounder but can get laggy and heavy since it's online only and data security is not great - Anytype: Most secure solution for all rounder apps but has quite a steep learning curve - Capacities: The best balance of Notion and Anytype I haven't tried affine yet so I can't speak to it.

I just started using this tonight and I fell in love .... UNTIL 1. As I was rearranging data in a page, half the data disappeared with no rhyme or reason. It literally vanished all by itself. I had deleted the info completely from another page, so some very important info has been lost and I'm absolutely devastated. I can't seem to find anything like a "garbage bin" or "revert to previous version. I tried hitting undo multiple times, to no avail. AND .... it doesn't support multiple image upload? It seems to only allow to upload one image at a time, unless I'm missing something. That is literally insane and such a time killer. I'm so confused how an app so cool could have that kind of shortcoming. Have you ever had data disappear or can you upload multiple images at once? I'm feeling nervous now!
