No matter how much the car media wants to hype the new ones, the only Porsches that will really appreciate in the long run are the air cooled classics (impact bumpers, 964 and 993). It's just the way it is. Those are the only cars that are iconic. New 911's are mass produced modern cars that represent completely different era. Only the special models like Turbos and GT's will have collectible value. When this money printing craze is over, only the classics will remain desirable.
@sambone82134 жыл бұрын
When I got in the Porsche game in the early 2000's, the SC was still frowned upon and god forbid you even mentioned the mid-years. Then it was the 964, which has skyrocketed. Point is, most Porsche models have been "under fire" at some point but ALL have enjoyed significant appreciation with due time. The 996 will be no different. Sadly even the days of cheap 944's are behind us. Nice examples double or tripled in value overnight. As history shows, sometimes the models most disliked by the Porsche loyalists are often the best.

I think most people want to see video analysis of modern classics that have already bottomed out such as the 997s GT3 RS, an update on the 1m, E46 CSL, 993 Turbo, etc...

I think those would be indeed very interesting videos. They, however, require at least two different market snapshot.s. It takes a moment to collect these :)

Great information. Another factor to consider is color for exterior and interior. I agree color is a personal taste factor but some colors are attractive to a much larger portion of the buying market and some colors a very small potion. I guess we should also look into the difference between a cabriolet and a coupe. I've had mine for over 10 years now and only paid $14k. Daily driver and no major repairs.
@fourwheeltrader4 жыл бұрын
True. Brighter colors are more rare. It is however difficult to prove statistically that they are more expensive because of the colour due to the limited data points. Between the coupe and the cabriolet I didnt find a significant price difference.
@cliftonbrown9114 жыл бұрын
Used car dealers will tell you that black, seal grey, silver, red and white are the most in demand, in that order. Not a personal opinion, just economics. Thanks for your reply.

One other difference is coupe versus convertible. I bought a very early build 1999 C2 manual coupe, built in March 1998. When I searched, there were a lot more convertibles than coupes available. The manual coupes were the most expensive with the automatic convertibles being the least expensive. Most buyers like the upgrades in the 996.2, but the early 1999s have a little bit of a cult following. The early 99s (built in 1998) had a better build quality and they came with the more robust dual row IMS bearing in the engine. My car has 92k miles on the original bearing. I love it. It's been a very reliable car and a lot of fun.
@fourwheeltrader4 жыл бұрын
When controlled for other variables such as mileage, model year, and transmission, i found that there was no difference between the coupes and the cabriolets. That's why it is not included in the video. Fully agree, the 996.1 cult is real :)

Indeed. Apart from the C4S and Turbo. A manual 1998-1999 Carrera 2 is the way to go.

Surly the 996 bottomed out years ago? Around 2016 I guess. You could buy a manual coupe with 60 000 km for around 17k€. The same car with the same milage and condition are now advertised for around 35k€. This is based on a Benelux, Germany location. That's why I don't understand your video, as you still seem to believe the prices may not of bottomed out yet. Am I missing something, or have you taken the data from the car market in the US? Thanks Josh

996 prices are going up a bit more rapid every year. I have owned my C4S now for about a year and i can sell the car for more than I paid but I listed lower. When I was looking there were 996 4S selling from $18,000-$26,999 at the top end and that was average. of course there were a few low mileage models that broke 30 even punching 40. Fast forward one year later and the bottom price right now on cargurus nationwide for a 4S is around $25,000.

It’s the price the cars sell for that matters, rather than price advertised. Only time will tell if the 996 value ever rises. I own one but for its own sake not to study market fluctuations.
@fourwheeltrader4 жыл бұрын
The actual selling prices are, to my knowledge, not freely available. Therefore, I use the advertised prices as a proxy. You could deduct a certain percentage of the prices and the market would shift down along the y-axis.
@jennifer.juniper48454 жыл бұрын
Hi. You could also look at time that car has been advertised and if price has been lowered. If it’s been advertised for a number of weeks obviously it doesn’t reflect market value. Advertised price seldom resembles sale price in my experience. I paid about 10% less than advertised price for my C4 996 , dealer friend would have offered 25% less so advertised prices are very unreliable. Good luck

@Wantobe1234 жыл бұрын
Very good info. If possible. I’d like to see one more variable. Coupe, convertible and very rare Targas. My guess you see the Targas having the highest spike due to being rare and then the coupes. From what I see, at the time, convertibles are about 75 percent of the sales market and then coupes and targa.
@fourwheeltrader4 жыл бұрын
I checked the difference between the coupes and the carbiolets but didn't find a significance difference when accounting for all the other variables. That's why i didn't mention it in the video.
