How to Flood Test a Shower pan. Leak test. The only way to know if your newly installed shower pan does not leak, is to perform a flood test. I have done countless flood tests on the pans I install whether it be a Sealed system like a Schluter Shower, Wedi Shower, Vinyl liner, Copper pan or whatever type of waterproofing used to prevent water from escaping into other areas where it can do damage. Many installer will simply assume that the pan they just installed does not leak and that it is good to go, Others don't even know what a flood test is, and some, more that you would think, simply will not hold water. Doing a flood test before installing the tile will ensure the integrity of the shower pan waterproofing. If you do a search on KZfaq, you will endless examples of failed shower pans, failures that could have been prevented by doing a simple test before the tile was installed. I’ve done many shower pan tests. The longest I had to test a pan was for 4 days. The job was for the US govt,and the inspector had access to the ceiling and drain pipes below. I’m glad to say everything went well, they even mentioned the test timeline in the specs

Sal.. I notice you used go board and hydro board along with kerdi band.. how many times have you did this combo ? I was under the impression that kerdi only was waterproof when kerdi was thinseted to kerdi..

out of my curiosity sal, if you prepp every shower you do with the system you feel is the BEST system (sealed system) why do u test every one? is it not the same prepp and materials shower after shower🤷‍♂️..I appreciate your videos 👍👏👏

He's not testing the system to see if it works. He's testing to avoid human error. Things like a tiny puncture of a membrane or a miniscule gap in sealant or thinset coverage can happen to anyone. Considering the consequences of discovering a leak once the tiles are up, doing a flood test first is extremely sensible.

Definitely will be leak testing-- Do you typically go with the shower board manufacturer's own-brand of modified thinset for the shower board install and water proofing? Or do you just use the manufacturer's recommended spec which allows use of other brands (lower cost) thinset?

I typically sticks to ANSI regulations. Sometimes the brand is easy (can lead to extensions on warranty) but sometimes I happen to have extra Thinset in the Van.

If it does leak would you try another drain lock out to make sure it's just not the lockout that's faulty
