I gotta say, this looks awful. It looks like its applying an anime filter to your face. Oversmoothing and outlining the eyes looks creepy. The size of it is cool, and using it for those desk streams is neat tho.

I feel like Opal said they would pay him 1k every time he said convenience. For $175 this webcam is garbage, there is no way these are his honest thoughts. Honestly i'm disappointed and feel like this just hurts his credibility.

I feel like he changed the camera when going to the desk shot, because the anime filter was gone. either way my old Lenovo Ideapads camera looks better than this.

The smoothing is ridiculously over the top. You look cell shaded, lol. I dont understand how the selfie cam on an average phone these days looks infinitely better than this. That said, the POV live stream shots with the Pokemon cards look significantly better than the extended talking head segment. Were there different settings used there?

Came here to mention the cel shaded-ness. That image demo was a bit uncanny valley for me, the flatness of the eyes messed me up.

The average phone costs 4 times as much and a large part of that cost is how good their cameras(and post-processing algorithms) have gotten, to be fair to phone cameras.

I mean I like how it looks, but it clearly is heavily filtered and processed, I think I disagree with your opinion on this looking natural. None of that matters though because at $175, it's highway robbery. I've worked with manufacturers and I can tell you that you're paying for something that costs $10 in hardware and there's no software or rnd that went into this. This will have Chinese clones in a few months for a fraction as well for anyone after something similar.

Not a fan of this. The processing is beyond obvious to the point of just making it look bad....I don't know if some settings might fix it, but the processing is bad, it looks like it's shooting at 20 FPS, and yeah...definitely not for me. It might be ok for just video calls, but for that price, I'd just go with something else, hell I have a $20 "2k" webcam I got off of Amazon that looks better than this ...for some reason, the POV shots looked decent at least, somehow....Too many other options out there these days, and many of them look a lot better.

I like the form factor, but not a fan of the audio quality. I wouldn't call the image quality natural. Looks like there's a filter over it. It would be a good on the iPad as a external cam though

This camera ain’t it for me. I think it just looks really jittery. I feel like my Surface Book 3 has a better camera. It’s definitely an interesting product though. Hopefully this is just a KZfaq compression or stream issue and not actually visible in the video calls that this would be used for.

The camera is clearly doing something to handle faces much worse than it does with the POV example with the Pokemon cards. I don't understand it, but how it makes faces look works kills it as an option for me.

Nifty little camera, but yeah the video noise reduction is a little over-the-top. But if you're just using it for zoom meeting or whatever I bet it would be really handy.

If your #1 priority is convenience I guess this is an option??? but otherwise there are things like Elgato Facecam if you don't need AF. Honestly think even the Logitech Streamcam looks better than this other than the card shots. Chances are if you're carrying around a laptop, you probably either wanna carry as little as possible (if you're just carrying a laptop sleeve or it bare) OR have a bag with probably enough space for a webcam.

I honestly don´t know why people are raving over a f´ing webcamera, just because some popular people tell them to do so....... I mean, webcams were super cool in the early 00´s but now they are in all entry-level and up laptops so this is a niche market beyond niche markets. The quality of the picture is not even close to decent. it costs 175USD and you can pick up a Brio 500 for less than 100USD.

Honestly, i'm a fan of the original Opal1 camera. But this one... I don't know. $175... It just seems too much for this kind of quality. Sure, it's design in itself is nice. It looks sleek, and nice, and it's small and all that. But the quality is suffering. The audio isn't the best either. Again, i understand it's very small. But the price should be accordingly. I'm not really "sold" on this one. I much rather had the original Opal1 and have a bit more bulk with me with MUCH MORE quality in both the video & audio!

I feel like this video is a perfect example of why this channel is falling apart with limited views. Everything seems like just a long low effort sponsor read. No comparison to other webcams such as the built in macbook one, logitech, etc. No comparison of audio quality and sound isolation to the built in laptop ones, other webcams, a real mic etc. Everything is just trust me its good because this company paid me to say this. Overall poor review.

I mean it’s really a niche product. There’s really not much to compare to. It’s selling point it’s small/slim form factor. Everyone has different laptops and webcams. If you feel like you need something better. Than you are probably searching for something like this. If you want a webcam and don’t care how big it is. Then there are many other options to choose from that have been known and reviewed for many years.

Yikes that looks awful. Possibly one of the worst webcam images ive seen for years. I'd prefer slightly blurry to whatever filter theyre running that through. Weirdly it looked better when you got right up to the webcam but thats not how people use webcams so. No real negatives when it looks like this and costs so much? And saying this is for the work environment when basically no one cares what they look like in zoom calls espeically not enough to carry a separate dongle with them. nope

I guess I’m not seeing what others are seeing, I like the look of the picture it gives. Personally wouldn’t use it, just don’t have a need for it as my laptop camera is sufficient enough for my remote meetings, but I’m sure someone could come up with cool ideas.

Don't you think it looks like they smeared his face across and it looks like a painting? or like a cartoon cut out. Squinting my eyes it does seem like it would be fine as a webcam for meetings when it is in a small frame and lower resolution, but not worth it all for me.

Everyone likes to crap on something without any context on business decisions. The market for this isn't gamers or content creators. The camera's image isn't meant to be seen fullscreen because it's marketed as an ultraportable webcam for a laptop. The primary use of a laptop webcam is for meetings and when you're in a meeting, your image is small, like 10% of the screen. So I'm almost certain the reason it looks the way it looks is so that your face really pops and look nice in a small window alongside other small windows in a meeting.

It’s $175, it’s a scam and it looks cell shaded af. And it does not look natural at all, at least on my phone it looks ultra saturated and processed. Mic quality is subpar as well.

You're welcome to not like it and not be the target market for it. But "scam" is a strong word for a company that someone like MKBHD invested in. I doubt he would attach himself to a brand that's a "scam" Again, they probably made it look "cel-shaded" because it helps make the user stand out, image-wise, in a Zoom meeting when there are a bunch of webcams. No one in a meeting is going to nitpick the image quality. This is also exactly why, in a blind camera quality test, most people tend to pick the image that "pops" more and looks more saturated and sharpened.@@ArcturusCOG

But business laptops already have a webcam for this. Having to use a 175$ almost as crappy external webcam for this case is almost useless. And then, at the desk, it doesn’t even clip on the monitor where it could be useful… the POV shot is a interesting use case however but an action cam will do a better job.

I agree with your last point. An action cam will do POV better. But it is more expensive and doesn't clip without an additional accessory. As to your first point, no regular consumer is going to spend $175 on this webcam, especially if it doesn't look as good as the Logitech Brio, which is priced around $175. However, the portability of this webcam is a major factor for on-the-go business consumers, who I think are the target audience. And this webcame looks better than built in webcams, so they are going to look more professional in meetings.@@TEKDAD
