Absolutely fantastic podcast. Loved the family interaction. A good wholesome family farming venture with the long-term future always at heart. Your old mans' views on climate are a lot more widespread than the media would have us believe. We admire his courage to speak his mind. Keep up the great work, and Matt, watch out for the power lines 😅

You guys have become one of my favourites youtube channel to watch. It is all of you that made this channel brilliant. It is not just the D11, but what work you do with it that makes it interesting for me, as well as thd bit of fun that releases any stress. I often stuck to channels that show the work, beforehand, the action and the aftermath and risk/reward longterm work. Keep up the great work.

My wife and I toured around Australia several years ago. My main goal was to see some of the outback and we did get to see some amazing sights. Drove from Sydney to Cairnes, flew to Aires rock, then went to Allis Springs. From there we took the Ghan railway to Adelaide ( wonderful scenic trip), from there the ferry to Tasmania and back. From there back to Sydney, unbelievable places to see. From Sydney back to Canada. We had a rental car from wherever we were and drove 7900 km. So happy we did that trip as now my wife has passed away and I’m getting too old to do it again. Keep making videos, I love seeing you guys.👍👍

Being in farming since 1983 and also being a a field service mechanic by trade, I personally like the older equipment because I can fix it myself. And if I were to have something catastrophic happen I would be more able to buy a replacement fairly reasonably. I grew up running older machines and my father taught me how to fix them. I think you’re on the right track. I really enjoy watching this channel. I also enjoy watching all of you together, you’re a funny group of guys. Have a great day and blessings!!

Love the Shed Podcast idea. What you talked about and how the conversation and different topics flowed was great. IMHO the best podcasts start off with a topic like the season, crops or something but just move with the flow from there. Just go where the conversation takes you. If you get too far off track you can always go back to what was originally being talked about if there is more to cover. The podcast idea fits in well with the KZfaq content which can be more task specific with video and details. Maybe one podcast per month depending on ideas for content topics? Keep up the great work and looking forward to the next instalment.

That was a fun little sit with y’all chatting around the table. You have my vote for a “Proverbs with Peter” segment! Lol the audio was great by the way, I had no trouble hearing what each of y’all were saying. As far as topics go, I like the recap and a bit deeper explanation to what’s been happening in the previous videos. That was petty cool! I was starting to wonder if Phil had parted ways with being in the videos.. glad you’re feeling better now though! It was good to see you!

Nice work guys. It ain’t easy to sit in front of a camera and talk, but you guys did it in a really down to earth way. I’ve always been interested in farming but never had a farm of my own. So I really enjoyed hearing more about your farm enterprise and how you go about making decisions regarding crops, machinery and marketing. It’s great that you’ve taken the development block on, fixing some of the previous damage to make it productive again. All the best.

Thanks Matt and all, I really enjoyed that. As to future content, I'd love to hear more about the risk/reward issues involved in large scale (to me) farming. You have a huge investment in equipment and roll the dice with each cropping decision. The last few years have been kind, with good rains. But it could easily go the other way, I know. Even with good rain, it seems that margins are low, given fixed costs. Some insight there (without giving away secrets) would be fascinating. All best, love the channel, its my fave. Phil

Okay, I'll be the guinea pig and ask a couple of Questions. At Farmfest, Brad indicated that you as a group, run 2700 hectares of cropping, is that enough for four families long term, given that over time you will suffer from droughts? With inputs costs continually rising, and unlikely to level out, are you limited into what crops you can successfully grow with your country (East of the Highway)?

Knowing what a gazetted road is simple. it is a named sealed or unsealed road regularly maintained by a local or state government body upon which the general public have unlimited rights of access. (Law Insider) In outback Australia knowing which roads are gazetted is the issue. Outback touring guides like those published by HEMA give you a good guide but for lesser roads the only real way to know is to contact the relevant local council. In my admittedly limited experience station roads and tracks including those leading to well known and frequently visited local attractions can be an issue particularly in relation to car hire and roadside assistance contracts. Some of these contracts explicitly state that insurance cover does not apply if the nominated vehicle is operated on a non-gazetted road.

The old man was right. 100% of the carbon that was here at the start of the planet is still here
@rwfoxtrot
@rwfoxtrot 5 күн бұрын
Thats definitely true but a lot carbon was turned into trees and then oil when the atmospheric temperature was a lot hotter than it is now and forests and crocodile like reptiles were to be found at what are now the polar ice caps. For example, all the coal in the Galilee Basin in Queensland was once forest then The Eromanga Sea before the glaciers and ice caps reformed. Temps were about 5-7 degrees Celsius on average than today and there weren’t humans beings on the planet either but there were several mass extinctions of species that couldn’t adapt or evolve quickly enough.

Another question, in discussing the east west direction for rows, have you thought about planting at an angle to maximise shade. Seems to me that if you can keep the sun from baking the ground it may reduce moisture loss.
@gardnep
@gardnep 5 күн бұрын
Interesting idea but this country gets well above 100 degrees F for quite a few days each year. That said these soils are black and absorb the heat as well as self mulching, which means they are friable on top most of the time and the only way to compact them is to work them too wet. It is a balancing act.
@NZBear07
@NZBear07 4 күн бұрын
@@gardnep Planting crops in a direction where you can generate high levels of shade on the ground has been proven to be beneficial for a couple of decades now. Moisture wicks both up and down and while we cant stop gravity, we can certainly put into place methods to stop the sun from absorbing moisture out of the ground.
