I used to have this on white label press pre-release, I went to see The Orb for the umpteenth time at one of their Brixton Academy all-nighters, the next day I came home to be greeted by a mate holding the record, it was like fucking Christmas - only better.

Oh the fun I've had while listening to this track,taking a trip while going nowhere,fitted in with my tangerine dream & pink Floyd cassettes.

Yes Yes. I haven't listened to the full version of this since high school. There was this one odd Welsh kid, our English exchange student, who somehow managed to keep getting the best albums despite being on the US side of the Atlantic. His mates would go get all the latest hits, put them in a crate and send them over as a "gift package." We were all listening to Underworld, The Orb, Mr. Oizo, stuff like that despite being 3500 miles away from london.

Not my first experience with the Orb or ambient (at the time, I already had the first album and Orbvs Terrarvm), but perhaps the greatest experience I had with the Orb was when I heard Blue Room out on the playa at the Black Rock Desert in 1996. I'm not sure which mix of the track it was, but this was back when Burning Man was still MILES OUT in the middle of the desert (sorry if you got on board after '96, you're no less cool but you did pay more to attend, only to be just a few miles from town - instead of closer to 15 - and it was much like being out on the moon). Anyway, even further from civilization yet was "Rave camp" - which was another mile further out - perched between the Jackson Mountains and whatever the range to the West was called. It was in the morning (after having been up all night on mushrooms) and I wandered over to rave camp and the DJ was playing Blue Room to an audience of ME. And I will never forget what it was like to experience the ambience of this track as (I could swear) I could hear the BASS bouncing off the nearest mountain to our West. It was the most incredible echo/acoustic effect, like something that couldn't be recreated in a club or studio. It needed this massive cathedral of desert floor and mountains to create it. At first, I stood between the speakers that had been set up but then I walked towards that one mountain because of the echo that was created. It gave the music such dimension and scale. It was something I never experienced before or since.

Listened to this for 9hrs repeat on first LSD experience. Mainly because we couldn’t figure out how to change it. And it just sounded right. Burned some neural pathways that day and this tune truly takes me back.

This was my coming of age album....so many expanded memories and nocturnal adventures all over the UK as the 90´s took off. Youth really is a wonderful thing.

People say it was pretentious to release a 40-minute single, but it's such a beautiful song.

Me and two mates went to see the Orb in the Barras, Glasgow, maybe about '95? There abouts. I think they played this? 25 years later, it's still stunning! Happy days!!!

Had this full version on a tape as it was released as a single on tape back in 92. Used to play in my Vauxhall Carlton Estate when driving all over the place. Great times.

Genius music and genius marketing because who among us doesn't regularly consume 40 minute singles. I'm sure all the other record companies were thinking money not music. Could you imagine a 40 minute freakin Macarena? Nope, only a handful of truly creative electronic musicians & producers like these guys and FSOL could pull off that feat with flying colors.

I'd like to think at least one of the dislikes came from someone who gave it the full 40 minutes before thinking "nah don't like it".

Its 1998 and I'm driving with friends to Gotham City party at TWILO NYC. This is playing right before we get there in the car. Till this day...best sound system I ever heard and it was the last real RAVE of my sorta generation.

Watching stereo MCs by the NME stage Glastonbury,next up the orb,tripping my bollox of,a couple of joints ready made in my pocket,the orb came on it was dark by then.I was hypnotised by the sound effects an music,blew my fucking mind completely. The band didn't do an ancore,one member of the band came back on stage and said " fuck off back to your tents ",it didn't go down well.We started chucking bottles and shit at the stage,booing and calling them wankers,what a fucking night,never forget it. !!

i remember dancing to this at raves in montreal in the mid 90's in abandoned warehouses and factories, most of which have been demolished, burned down for insurance $, or gentrified. it was also one of my favourite pieces of music to fall asleep to, along with Miles Davis's Quintet album, the soundtrack for "L'Ascenceur pour L'Echafaud".
