This is THE historic Palm Pedal guitar my old friend Boomer Castleman had heavily modified.
Boomer invented the Palm Pedal. We became good friends later in his life, and he was an honorary Bendegos brother! I miss him. He was larger than life, if you knew him, you would absolutely agree. And you wouldn't know it if you just met him at a guitar show or NAMM, but he was a bonafied rock star, country star, hit songwriter, and session guitarist.
But his biggest contribution to music, was his invention of the palm pedals that Bigsby took a chance on, and marketed! This guitar is kinda like Les Paul's Log. Or Clarence White's Original B bender. This is a part of bender history.
Clarence and Gene did that strap pull B bender that Marty Stuart still plays, in 1968. Boomer invented this bender around the same time. but he put it in this heavily modified 1969 Rosewood Tele and it's the guitar you saw in all the print ads, brochures and Boomer playing on sessions.
I know this is the guitar on Michael Martin Murphys album "Geronimos Cadillac"
And I'm sure a lot more sessions from 1970 on.
I was born in 1970 and as far as the guitar as we know it. it was as well.

You really gotta watch it after the noodle part. Most folks only make it to about 6 min. But if they watch all the way till the end, there are some really cool historic things. Keeping anyone's attention is difficult. But it's worth it on this video.

I knew Boomer and seen him perform many times. His later guitar had a different palm bender that had multiple benders. Great musician that played many of our pedal steel guitar shows.that

6 benders on that one. I don't know how he played it. I tried... no way. He was such a great guitarist. Totally underrated.

This is Jon Elam, I have a hip shot, B and G bender on one of my telly’s and it’s harder to play then your bender system for sure, that’s why I had you put one in my other tellys👍😎

I have a Certano double bender on a budget tele copy and it's a lot of fun to play but you are right about palm benders being difficult to play and especially palm mute. I play with a thumb pick and I think it is a bit easier when you have that index finger free and seems less awkward feeling than trying to hold a pick while bending. I'm definitely saving up for a double strap activated bender though!

Re: “Think about”: One of the toughest things about the palm critters is… From finger bends to pushing down on the neck: Ultimately ones LEFT appendage is usually in charge of pitch changing. Thus, you’re trying to make dents in the other side of the brain… Lurnin’s HARD!
