Rebecca deals with the full events of the Spencer outbreak, near non stop, for two days straight. That on top of losing all of her team mates, Billy leaving, and it being her first mission I just assumed she was mentally and physically exhausted by the latter part of RE1. It never seemed all that disconnected to me Rebecca went through a lot.

Not really relevant to RE0, but I think the Capcom developers missed a huge opportunity to flesh out Bravo Team with Kenneth's video from the REmake. To explain what I mean, you remember the part in the original Halo when Master Chief finds the video diary of Marine Private Jenkins? And how it shows his squad joking around before they discover The Flood? REmake could have done something similar with Bravo Team in that video file you find rather than just showing Kenneth being munched on by the first zombie in the game.

Zero is such a wasted potential. Still love this part and whole RE games series. Umbrella corp. you not.

At this time Capcom was still in the mindset of having one playable female character and one playable male. Being that rebecca is the only woman on bravo team they went with her.

I don't think we really need this game to show us the fate of Bravo Team...because Resident Evil 1 and the Remake already showed us that. Kenneth's pov camera showed him getting killed by a zombie. Forest was killed by crows. Richard's fate was dependent on your actions and who you play as. Enrico was shot and killed by Albert Wesker. Granted, I do agree that there should have been more of a focus on the other members of Bravo Team, showing the struggles that they had to go through before their demise. It could've probably been done in a manner similar to the game Obscure. Each member of Bravo Team provides their own unique gameplay-related traits and players can choose which members to take control of and switch between throughout the game.

In Umbrella Chronicles, Rebecca has a level that settles between RE0 and RE1, and she eventually finds Richard. She starts having PTSD and struggles to fight Yawn. Maybe that's why she's weak in RE1.

I like rebecca , but always thought Billy and Enrico should've been the main characters ( a good cop vs Ex criminal story ) with rebecca as a nervious side character ( with side missions ) with rebecca caught in the middle. should've shown enrico interacting wie other bravo team members , would've made sense within RE1 story aswell. Game ends with enrico's death and billy's escape.

To answer some of your questions on all this "why?" Mikami had some bizarre vendetta against the PlayStation and wanted the series on literally ANYTHING else, first the dreamcast (joke) then next up was xbox (negotiations broke down) and then the final announcement was that a deal had been made with Nintendo. The arrogant expectation is that the RE name alone was enough to see people buy a seperate console. Big mistake. While RE2 sold 4.9 million copies on PS1 and RE3 managed 3.5 million copies on PS1, the move to gamecube saw REmake, RE0 and yes even RE4 sell no more than 1.6 million copies per game. A disaster and Capcom were not impresssed, neither were Mikami's staff who were only paid bonus based on sales of their Gamecube exclusive games. Capcom said "screw this" and saw RE4's port to PS2 getting thr greenlight towards the end of RE4's development, they needed to see it turn a profit and they were correct not to bank on the gamecube for a third attempt. If you need any proof that fans were not tired of survival horror look no further than the success of REmake HD in 2015. On actual platforms a 13 year old gamecube game became the fastest selling PSN digital game ever and ironically, sold more copies than any singular port/release of RE4 to this date.

Although I do love Billy's flashback fmv, his character was so frickin unnecessary. Why oh why couldn't they flesh out bravo team? They had 7 characters!

RE0 was the second RE game I played and the first to own (a gift for Christmas) to this day RE0 is my favorite game, start to finish and the score is fantastic!

The things that I didn't liked at RE0 are: 1)Since there isnt' an item box you drop items at any place you want so have fun going back and forth to get the damn items you need! 2)Billy takes more hits than Rebecca and deals more damage which seems right since he was in military and Rebecca is like 18 years old BUT why he deals more damage with weapons? Seriously. Pretty sure if girl and a soldier fire the same weapon it will deal the same damage no matter what too. So you were forced to play as Billy the whole game.

Back then my cousin tried to make me jealous about the future release of RE0 on N64 showing me information and images from magazines, by that time i used to have a Dreamcast and by then there wasn't any RE in that console yet (end of 1999 early 2000 ) and i didn't know about the release of Code Veronica, he brag all the time about his brand new RE2 cartridge. But half year later my aunt (his mom) who is my godmother took me to a videogame store to buy me a present due to my final grades and i find out Code Veronica, he was so jealous and pissed of because the salesman told me that my cousin's lovely RE2 will be released for Dreamcast by the end of that year and that wasn't all, RE3 too, i got both, one for my birthday and one for christmas, and my cousin never got the "exclusive" Resident evil 0 on his N64, the funniest part is that after a while he got a PS2 and one year later i got a GameCube and i ended up having RE remake, RE0 and RE4 months before him, in the other hand he got RE outbreak but I never liked that game.

I too noticed a difference between RE0 and RE1 Rebecca and funnily enough Vendetta Rebecca feels like an older version of RE1 Rebecca not 0. And the thing is, I am a fan of 0.

I do agree that it would've been so much better if the rest of the Bravo Team were properly in the game, instead of a person we never saw before, and never will again. I also agree with you on the Rebecca problem. But, I still like the game. I play both this and the remake on the ps4.

just a correction,the reason why RE0 was N64 exclusive ,was because the game need faster loading time(the cargridge could do that) for the zapping system,if we get this game in PS1, would be a way clunky game if you have to wait 10 to 20 seconds for character change in a game build around that,and they keep in the gamecube for the same reason,the gamecube use mini DVD with faster loading times,and then Capcom decided to make the whole exclusive agreement with Nintendo ,because Shinji Mikami needed a more powerfull consol,(and they couldnt get any agreement with Microsoft due to a lack of comunication and the fact Xbox didnt sold well in Japan)

Now I am not sure about this "Showing all the team members and having them playable" thing in a survival horror game...part of the fun of the Resident Evil series was the sense of isolation and the fact you don't get to interact with many humans. Honestly, making all the Bravo team members be playable would have killed the sense of isolation because you'd know there are other members of your team around rather than playing with uncertainly of their fate...I just personally think it adds more to the atmosphere when the focus is on fewer characters. With that being said, I'd say that yeah, some aspect of the RE0 storyline could have been handled better.

I think if they had the teams it would probably become more of an action game. And if we played as some of the bravos knowing their fate it wouldn't really subvert a players expectation if they already knew the outcome. However it probably would work for a new series player

The topic of Resident Evil's low sales during the PS2/GC era is a weird one. While RE0 and REmake on the GC didn't sell great, neither did Outbreak, Outbreak 2, or Dead Aim on the PS2. Honestly, I think the bigger problem holding back Resident Evil was how much they expected people to buy every game they release in a franchise. This is particularly true when you remember their exclusivity deal with Nintendo also involved them rereleasing RE2, RE3, and Code Veronica on the GC, all at a price of $40 each. Not to mention, that RE4 didn't actually sell that much better than the other Resident Evil games, it just got much more respect from critics who probably didn't like having to play games that aped Resident Evil's style. I don't think people weren't interested in Survival Horror, it's that casual fans were much more interested in the GTA games and multiplayer games, which were huge during the same era. I would say the Gamecube exclusivity brought in more new fans to the older style of Resident Evil, but not as much as it would have if they just released their games on all consoles. I feel like the real lesson Capcom learned after the exclusivity deal with Nintendo didn't pan out was to put all their games on as many consoles as possible, as RE4 has continued to be a stable revenue source through all it's ports and REmake found new life through it's recent ports.

The choice of N64 was to avoid loading times when swapping characters. It would have easily fit onto a single PS1 or Dreamcast disc in its N64 form.

Who wishes someone would finish the og version? A complete retro re 1.5 and re0 finish up would be amazing especially if they released hard copies of it. Retro gaming is making a comeback big time as well!

I always wanted to play as the rest of the Bravo Team in resident evil 0 kind of like RE revelations had their concept with their characters but they focused it completely on Rebecca which wasn't bad though at that time for the Die Hard Fans. I guessed they wanted to focus on her since she was a important piece to RE1 for Chris Redfield. Good thing to know I am not the only one who thought of the great potential of this game. 💯👌

Right on Score, I feel exactly like you do 100% I have RE zero in my hard drive on xbox 360 but I gave up on it. I just couldn't stand not having the item box to store things in, that was a big disappointment for me. Also after Watching gameplay videos on KZfaq, I noticed that RE zero has a lot of repeated designs they already used in older Re games. That just shows how lazy capcom was with this game.

With the eliminators and the eventually rejected spider human, it seems like occasional elements of 1.5 were to be used.

Love RE:0, I played it before RE1 and was extremely confused when Rebecca seemed like she hadn't confronted anything the likes of which were in the RE:0 Mansion.

If RE1 Remake and RE Zero had been launched on PlayStation consoles too during that time, story would has been very different (better sales). Probably later main games would not have been so far departed from horror to action.

I agree with you on everything EXCEPT the item drop feature. The concept was cool, but they implemented it horribly. If the system you're making your game for causes you to severely limit one of your main features, then you need to drop it and go back to something you know is reliable, in this case the storage box. Dropping items on the ground became so annoying and such a giant headache. I already established you could only drop so many items in each room, but trying to pick up specific items that you dropped near each other was also frustrating too. Oh, you want to go fight the giant mutant bat with all your best weapons cuz you horde ammo and healing items, but you don't have enough inventory to carry it all? Tough shit. Better place the tablets, open up the entrance to the church, drop your gear, take back the tablets to unlock the doors, head back to the main hall cuz that's most likely where you've been dropping everything (and try not to get mauled by the mutant monkeys that now roam the halls, grab more items, place the tablets again to open the path to the church... repeat as necessary. Oh, not enough room outside the church to drop all your items? Better head inside and start dropping stuff. Filled that up too? Go into the church save room and drop more stuff off, but don't leave it unprepared cuz you'll immediately be starting the boss fight. Oh, all you have on you is a handgun cuz everything is outside the church cuz you weren't expecting a random boss fight? Sucks to be you. As for why they only focused on Rebecca and Billy, I can understand why they did that. Anyone that played RE 1 know's that her entire team died, so it would be kinda shitty to have them as main characters in RE 0 and have fans get attached to them, knowing they'd be dead by the next game. But by that logic, why even bother basing it on a character that did almost nothing in RE 1 and a new character, neither of which have been in an RE game since. Don't get me wrong, I love RE 0... mostly anyway. Fuck the item drop mechanic. But with a singing leech monster boss, you have to wonder what the actual fuck Capcom was thinking back then. Having a game that actually focused on Bravo Team and told the full story of what happened leading up to RE 1 woulda been amazing. And before anyone say's anything, Rebecca appearing in Resident Evil: Vendetta as a helpless damsel in distress yet again, and totally ignoring all the badass stuff she did in RE 0 does not count as her returning to the RE franchise. If anything, it supports my statement that they shouldn't have based a game solely on her if they were then just gonna ignore her character in all future RE games. Which sucks, cuz I love Rebecca.

I agree that it would have been awesome if they added more background and show more of the rest of the Bravo team. They were the A team, whereas the Alpha was the second team. They were all extremely talented, hard as nail and not your ordinary cops and would go toe to toe with even the best of the best hence making it to STARS, something that was hinted not easy to get in hence the character Kevin from outbreak failed to get his acceptance into STARS and also why Leon even as a Rookie (though he is a special case since he turned out to be amongst the best for surviving the outbreak), would have been brilliant to see them all and how they ended up the way they did. However, I do think they probably had it in mind but at the time would have been too ambitious to implement. Having sufficient focus where they get character development with a good story but at the same time focusing on so many characters may just have been a bit too much for Capcom at the time and subsequently they may just decide to focus on a character who survived to give her more presence and for them to test the waters to see how popular Rebecca and a new Character Billy can be. I think it may have been testing to see this after all I heard about Leon was originally meant to be in Code Veronica and killed off but decided he was too popular to kill off hence changing and adding Steve into the game instead. The one character I'm still wondering if they are really dead is Wesker. He is so clever and manipulating everything, I got a feeling it might not have been the end of him or he might have cloned himself somehow as a backup.

Definitely need to remake this game.

Have you played the "Obscure" 1 & 2 games? You're gameplay suggestion is like that, which I like. Different chapters (or campaigns like RE 6), different switchable characters like they did in that game. It would show us their personality and how they died and what they felt.

The issues and questions you have about the story of RE 0 align with a lot of my own and I have been a fan since 96 with RE was the main reason why I had a PlayStation back in the day. Resident Evil 0 was released for the gamecube because they had a contract with Nintendo. Nintendo paid a lot of money to Capcom. They paid more money than Capcom would have theoretically earned if they released the product on other consoles. In return, many of us were forced to buy a gamecube to play RE, so Nintendo got their money back. They were able to release REmake and RE0 to other consoles when the contract ended.

I totally agree with you, Score. Everything was a mess, starting with CAPCOM decision to stick with Nintendo to death. RE3.5 footage still broken my heart, for what could be. The shit excuse that CRAPCOM give, saying fans has lost interest in the series is shameful. Since the fan base was funded in a Sony's console, one don't need to be a rocket scientist to realize people will stay in that console, while waiting for the next Resident Evil main game.

I do think the human exhaustion should be taken into consideration if you want to think of why she is a lot less active. But that's my explanation, the one I like to believe in... I think if this was the case, it would have been a lot more exposed in the dialogues but, anyways... the thing about RE games, I've learnt, is that they take a bit of imagination to connect events and characters who became completely different people with just some common colors and superficial details in their designs to make they seem like they are still the same
