Go back in time with these fun facts from the original Star Trek TV series. This video focuses mostly on the history and memories of William Shatner as Captain Kirk, DeForest Kelley as Dr. McCoy, Leonard Nimoy as Mister Spock, and James Doohan as Scotty the engineer of the starship Enterprise both from the show and other series and life experiences they had.
One of the stars was a hero in World War II that was shot eight times and survived thanks in part to a small silver case in his breast pocket. One of the actors appeared three different times at the gunfight at the O.K. Corral, twice on television and once on the movie screen, Star Trek being one of those appearances. This actor also appeared with the Lone Ranger three times.
Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner both had musical albums. Also, Nimoy appeared with Shatner on another show apart from Star Trek featuring a certain police officer known as T.J. Hooker.
I also look at DeForest Kelley's best known lines and some instances of his early career choice as a doctor following him his entire acting career from show to show.
See Joan Collins and Captain Kirk walk past Floyd's barber shop from the Andy Griffith Show and remember the Twilight Zone Trek connections.
Plus a couple of bonus Star Trek trivia facts from Star Trek the Next Generation and the movie with Chris Pine as Captain Kirk that somehow connects to the television series Chips.

No, they won't match it. They surpassed it, like DS9 did. I love TOS, without it there will be no Star Trek. It planted the seed for all sequels and prequels to it. Just like parenting, sometimes the child surpasses the parent, and that would make any parent proud!

Yep. All the spin-offs suck. TNG? All they do on that show is sit around and talk techno-gobblygook. Kirk got laid every other episode, Spock and McKoy competed with each other, subtly disliked each other, but there was a profound professional respect between them! Scotty, according to Capt. Kirk, "knows the Enterprise better than the men who built her!". And Kirk himself? Brave, bold, handsome, capable, brilliant executive commander, but also passionate and principled. What such characters hath the spin-offs to offer?

Big fan of TOS here. Over the decades, have probably watched the first two seasons, each episode, about 20 or more times! I don't recall McKoy ever contrasting his profession with a politician. IIRC, he did say, "I don't know Jim. I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!" (And other professions! hehe) It's hard to pick one's favorite TOS character. Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Mckoy, as well as Chekov, Sulu, and the ORIGINAL Lt. Uhura, love them all!

@@canuck3169 Yep. Roddenberry wanted Alex Courage to add lyrics to the intro TOS theme music. I think Alex and maybe some others talked him out of it. It's amazing how much Roddenberry would've screwed up his own creation without the input of screenwriter, story editor, and showrunner Gene Coon. Coon ran the show from the middle of the 1rst season thru to the end of the 2nd season. By all accounts, the best episodes of TOS. With lyrics, it probably would've been as bad as 'Enterprise' intro. :(

I'm an original Trekkie, I was 9 when the original series came out and I was hopelessly hooked. Due to my connection to science fiction conventions since 1979, I've met almost all of the cast, the only 2 I missed were DeForest Kelly and Leonard Nimoy. I've had dinner (group dinner) with George Takei, have a picture with Shatner (he was in a grumpy mood, but it was 101 where we were), met Nichelle Nichols in a restaurant where she was eating dinner with Mae Jemison, who was the first black, female astronaut (Nichelle did a lot of work to get females, and people of color, into science and space). I met Majel Barrett Rodenberry and John De Lancie at a convention in Dallas. Both were very nice, John is a larger-than-life personality who had us laughing. Walter Koenig was judging a costume contest my then-4 year old daughter was in. She got so embarrassed, she sat down on the stage and pulled her tunic over her head. She charmed him to the point that my sister (who was with the kid) let him bring her to me in the dealer's room. We talked kids and he bought a unicorn statue for his own daughter. Such a nice guy. But my hands-down favorite was Jimmy Doohan. He couldn't sleep one night and I was up wandering the hotel. We met, went to a couch and sat there for a couple hours just talking about trek, illnesses (he had had his heart attack) and just got along so great. I cried so hard when he passed away. I really have had fun meeting people at the conventions over the years, even meeting my beloved husband of 30 years now at one. :)

Awesome! Since you mention Back to the Future, I guess, I could quote Marty, "That's heavy!" Having a DeLorean would be so cool.😀

In several STOS episodes, both Uhura and Spock used what could be described as 60's blue-tooth receivers in their ears which were in actuality what common condiment containers?

Did you know that in the episode Plato stepchildren when Shatner kissed Nichelle Nichols it was the first time an interracial kiss was ever on television? Rodenberry wanted to cut it out because he felt it was too controversial, but Shatner kept screwing up all the other takes so they ended up leaving it in.

Thank you for the video. Although I knew about a lot of the information, I didn't know that James Dohan was shot by friendly fire that many times. I knew about his finger, but I heard he hid it on Star Trek because he thought in that century doctors would be able to replace it or regenerate it. Whether it is true or not I don't know. LLAP

Shatner stared in touring theatre performances after ST ended, and eventually did get had lots of TV `guest’ appearances, & TV commercials, but this didn’t help his financial circumstances as the judge based his alimony & child support payments on what he was earning as the star of a TV show (rather like what happened to Brendan Fraser when he divorced). His income dropped precipitously when Star Trek ended. On the other hand, Leonard Nimoy’s wife got screwed over by the courts because the `judge’ was a fanboy of Mr Spock.

Technically, but not the first one to go into space while still alive, but probably something I should have mentioned. There's so much information that one video could never hold it all on Star Trek though.
