Isaac Newton's youthful experiments with sunlight and prisms established an
entirely new basis for the understanding of light and colour. His
manuscript collections in Cambridge University Library hold crucial clues
to how he worked. This film uses this invaluable evidence to explore
Newton's remarkable notebooks and experimental explorations at Cambridge
and at his Lincolnshire home.

Unbelievable that he would stick a needle behind his eye for the sake of colors! That was a truly dedicated man.

A great short documentary on a fascinating subject. Surprised to see this video with so few views and comments so thought I'd leave one to thank you for the work that went into this.

I didn't know Newton was involved in the color wheel which is the basis of color theory. We always hear about his invention of calculus and his coming up with the laws of gravity and planetary motion, but never his involvement in the color wheel.

Newton was late to the trend by about 7 centuries. The model/experiment explained in the video was conducted long before Newton by the Islamic scholar Ibn Al-Haytham, who dispersed light by passing it through a tiny hole and through a prism. He concluded that in fact light and consequently colours, are both perceived by sight. He greatly influenced the likes of Newton and Descartes so I think to him credit is due. The academic environment shouldn't be marginalised with conscious double standards.
