Each selection is independent, and if I were working with the actual numbers, there would probably be some hinky factorial math that would explain the relative chances of being picked for each individual lottery. But, this is examining the dependent sequence. It's like computing the chance of a specific sequence of coin flips. Each flip is close enough to independent that you can treat it as such. But, you're not looking at future flips, you're looking at a completed sequence of events. To have the sequence, specific results have to be arrived at during each stage. Each coin has a 50/50 chance of coming up heads, but the chance of having flipped two coins and both gotten heads is only 25%. It's the same here. The chance of getting picked any one specific time is 2%. The chance of never getting picked in 36 lotteries is a little less than 50%. It's a compound penalty, rather than compound interest.

Pinkamena Pie desperation doesn’t justify putting people in a kill-zone. I agree that in a certain perspective it’s not “sinister”, but in reality it’s pretty fucked up. Despite the reasoning behind it.

Pinkamena Pie yeah, but the caveat to that logic is the fact that people WON’T see it like that. The lady on Edgewater ACTUALLY found a solution to a problem and instead of capitalizing on that they choose to kill her off. Yeah, people ARE gonna die off. But the Board constantly looks at short-term solutions...instead of considering the long term. What does freezing everyone solve? It takes a resource to keep them frozen. You can’t freeze everyone, of course. But obviously the Board doesn’t have the mental capacity to solve the problem yet they make Wells a man who DOES a criminal? That makes zero logical sense. That’s like shooting yourself in the foot and whoever has a band-aid you kill them off because they “threaten” your authority. The Board may be morally grey, but they are incredibly STUPID and unfit for leadership.

Pinkamena Pie the Board isn’t thinking about the entire system. They’re thinking about the bottom line and ensuing they keep power. They’re desperate yet in a way they can be seen as villainous because like I said they’re only looking at short-term solutions to their problems. Everything that benefits the Boards punishes another group and while that may seem preferable to some...the Board’s problem is made HARDER everytime they screw someone over.

I never said anything about capitalism. My point is that there’s people who can solve the problems Halcyon faces, but if they’re not on the Board’s “side”, they’re seen as a threat despite the solutions, despite the benefits they can potentially provide.
