I just remembered that Elijah started her Owl House reactions with “Wing it Like Witches,” the episode AFTER Grom. So this will be nice to revisit the episode where Amity made it BLATANTLY obvious - via the letter - that she had feelings for Luz. 😁😊

It would be hilarious if Luz didn’t realize she was the one Amity wanted to ask out until decades later. Like they’re having breakfast one morning and Luz just bolts up “Wait a minute!”

You didn't really point this out but when Luz and Amity danced, their magic was significantly stronger than it usually is. Amity's abomination was so much bigger than it usually is in previous episodes, and Luz's plant magic became a giant tree! I feel like this just represents a bigger picture.

It was on this prom/grom night that Luz and Amity shared their first dance, but to us… it was the start of the only romantic couple in Disney that was pure chemistry, pure love, and pure joy. Lumity4Ever!

I love how the plushy expressions reflect how the fans feel about you: Luz is happy you're happy and Amity's like "that's our Elijah. Don't ever change."

I've rewatched TOH a few times, still absolutely adore this episode. I think one of the things that sticks out to me is that, yeah, Amity makes it clear that she has a crush on Luz, but Luz doesn't necessarily reciprocate. What she does do is offer unconditional friendship to Amity, and Amity loves that. It's not interpreted as a rejection or (I hate this stupid term) a "friend-zone-ing". Their genuine, authentic love for each other as girlfriends is born from sincere friendship as a starting point. I really like that.

Grom was the episode to get me hooked on the Owl House. And now 2 years later, look at where I come. Worms, trauma, and a very unhealthy obsession with the show and some of it's characters.

Lumity started out as just a cute fanon pairing, and now the ship's name has become basically synonymous with The Owl House itself. Even if you haven't watched the show, you've probably heard about Lumity at least once. Over the past two years, it's really amassed quite the legacy, and the fact that it happened on Disney Channel makes it that much more impressive. Here's to many more years of Lumity! 🥳🍾

I think this show was my very first true introduction to queer representation, and I cannot thank this show enough for giving this to me, for helping me realize that I’m a lesbian and that I’m nonbinary, and just for being a comfort for me while I’ve been struggling with my mental health. It was truly a light in the dark (get it??? LUZ /j) for me, and has helped me work through so much stuff in my life! Thanks Owl Crew 💕

Hot take: But I think this episode is the best that Amity has ever been written in the show. She has feelings for Luz, but she still has her snark and wit. There's romantic chemistry between the girls, but they're still great foils for each other. I still like the other Amity in subsequent episodes, but I felt that she lost some of her edge along the way.

One thing that always struck me as funny about this episode - given their history, what is Bump thinking making EDA the chaperone?!? :-)

It makes sense that this would still get you excited, even though you've already seen the episode. That's what some people call "seeing something with new eyes," where you rewatch something and either experience those same joyful feelings from before or a combination of THAT and discovering certain details you might've missed. Two prime examples of that include Skara almost kissing that boy she liked and ANOTHER same-sex dancing at Grom (the cyclops boy with the horn was dancing with the burly kid wearing glasses)

I love how Amity's version of Luz isn't some big mutated version of her like Luz's mom. It's a simple fear, one based more in the reality of it and less in the theatrics.

Fun fact. There was an awarding ceremony for an English festival at my school and everyone was required to wear full tuck's and ball gown. And I was basically waring Luz's grom outfit. Ballet tutu and all and I ended up getting 5th place with my editorial cartoon.

Not so fun fact: Amity's siblings did have dates, but they were stood up, the creator posted about it on Twitter along side a drawing of them looking sad/mad

This is literally how I felt when I re watched the show and came back to "Separate Tides" after seeing the whole show and so, Hunter's entire character development. It's such a weird feeling to see the beginning of your favorite characters again when you already know what they've become and how far did they go

OH MAN!! This is so nostalgic to watch. This episode is what peaked my interest in this whole show and it still does to this day after watching season 2. Just having great character growth and the beginning of a relationship done SO WELL throughout the show is so RARE to me and is a once in a lifetime thing from any show I've watch for years.

Going back to this episode brings up the positive side of Luz and everyone stuck in the human world. Luz can finally introduce her mom to her awesome girlfriend, converting Camila into a Lumity shipper like the rest of us.

The part that always gets me about the dance is the very end, when Amity just completely trust falls out of the sky, knowing Luz would catch her. I mean, that was complete and total faith.

This was a staple of the entire series because of this small ship, and Dana, if you by some miracle see this comment, just know that you made a lot of neglected LGBTQ members feel known again and everyone overall really happy and thankful for your efforts despite Disney’s BS restraints put on you. I've re-watching this episode like 30 times and still good episode. I'm glad that Dana and the crew do a great job with the development of these characters, I mean I was not expecting that 2 characters from the LGBT community break the limits, because y'know ""Disney"". Honestly back when I first met Amity I thought she was gonna be this bratty popular girl that everyone hates through out the whole show. I was NEVER expecting her to develop each episode and soon become a love interest to the main protagonist

The grom episode. it changed everything. and that's how I started watching the owl house! so thank you grom episode!! 💜💜

I really like how the episode wasn't pure shipping bait - we had meaningful character development for Luz, Gus and King bonding after their conflict in Really Small Problems, Luz learning a new glyph and a new plot development in the letters. I also like that they didn't rush or overdo it with the shipping - all this episode really did was confirm Amity's crush.

S1 Lumity was pure joy I miss it

Season 1 was only 2 years ago but wow it feels so nostalgic. I wasn't even there for it but something about seeing the fanbase back in season 1 is so fascinating to me.

Random thing, but now knowing how much Amity resented having to dye her hair green for Odalia’s approval, I have to wonder if Amity was like really happy with the dress she wore, or if that too was her mother’s influence and not what she wanted to wear. If not, then I kinda hope at the end of the series that our main cast can take like, new Grom Photos, where Amity isn’t as shy or embarrassed about the whole thing, and standing with Luz confidently with her purple hair. Many moments since this episode in Seasons 1 & 2 and ESPECIALLY in “King’s Tide” have shown the two of them standing together more frequently and clearly more confident and being able to rely on each other, but I feel that since “Grom Fright” was that start of that growth, it’d be cool if in the series finale credits-where a lot of shows like this have a collage of photos portraying the characters in slice of life moments (beach party, camping, hiking, school events, etc.)-we see a photo depicting retaking Grom photos! 🤩

It's amazing how far all the characters have gone! This is the hallmark of any good show.

Idk how many people may agree or disagree with this, but hear me out. Alot of people say/believe that Lumity began in this episode. While I can absolutely see why they might think this, considering this episode 100% confirmed Amity's crush on Luz, I believe that it started BEFORE Grom. I'm not talking about Understanding Willow (when we first get Amity ✨gay panic✨), but in season 1, episode 5: "Covention". Oh yeah. We're going BACK. The brief but genuine moment between them after Amity was publicly humiliated not only shows more to Luz's big open heart (which everyone knew/knows she already had and STILL has), but also shows Amity's soft, genuine side. There is even more Lumity tied in with this, not only because it's a genuine moment between the angsty teen lovebirds, but also because the first time we've ever seen soft Amity Blight is when she was having a sort of heart-to-heart with Luz. After this, we see that Amity is still a bit of a push-over (no offense), but she's starting to grow. In the episode that follows, when Boscha insults Luz, Willow and Gus, Amity still makes a rude remark, but is also defending the group against Boscha, her "friend". . I'm so sorry this is so long, but to those of you who are reading this, how was your day/night? :)

Ngl, when Dana tweeted the famous (now deleted) "there really isn't" I felt a bit apprehensive about a ship being included in the story, because I had to suffer in the SVTFOE fandom. But I'll be damned if the show didn't do a fantastic of of integrating Lumity in the story, having me make a few fanarts and all

I know this episode hits different now because the first time you hoped it would turn out well, but we didn't really know that Disney would allow it, but now that we know where this lead, that it was the beginning of something real and not just fan hopes, it's just more impactful with the weight of a more certain future. And OMG Amity is so adorable that her biggest fear was that Luz didn't like her back, like "oh honey, it's gonna be okay, don't worry baby"

Fun (irrelevant) Fact: The music that plays during their dance is my ring tone. When you think about it, it makes sense why they'd have a student fight the Grometheus. Aside from the valuable life lessons of facing your fears, standing up for yourself, etc., the Grom takes the form of your worst fears, and children's fears tend to be rather benign things, like rejection, or your parents being disappointed in you, or clowns. Just imagine what someone like Eda or Principal Bump would be afraid of (assuming they didn't just annihilate the thing in like two seconds).
