“Raine isn’t a lesson; they’re an example.” YES. This sentence right here!!!! So often queer, trans, and nonbinary characters are thrown into media as a way to educate cishet audiences about our identities, communities, and experiences, and Raine is NOT THAT. They’re nonbinary, sure, but their story isn’t strictly about their identity, and this casual representation is so needed and so appreciated. Raine is nonbinary, but it’s not because their character aims to educate cishet people about the nonbinary experience; Raine is non-binary just because they ARE. And that’s it.

Yea, nothing kicks me out of a fantasy world faster then realizing people like me (be that gender, sexuality, ND, disabled, etc) just don't exist in this world. This is especially true in video games and ttrpgs where I frequently either get slotted into a "normal" role or, everyone just ignores it which isn't a lot better. More, casual, rep

I fell in love with Raine as a character the moment they were officially introduced. I’m a non-binary female but I always feel like I have to be androgynous because “tHaT’s tHe wHoLe pOiNt oF bEiNg NoN-bInAry.” Like no. No it’s not. I applaud Raine tho for being their true self how THEY want to be. And I also love how it’s not a huge deal in the show that they’re non-binary. It’s just normal. No one makes a big deal out of it. No one hates them. They just. Use their proper pronouns like any other person. It’s _normal._ I fucking love and admire The Owl House for all it’s LGBT+ rep it’s given us so far from Lumity to Raine. It’s so beautiful.

Omg another Demi-girl 😭💕 I hate the “non-binary=androgynous” thing because it gives them restriction of what is expected to be non-binary, the same issue present in cis demographics. It creates an idea that an enby person can’t look a little feminine or masculine in any way, which can play a part in toxic gatekeeping

I am not non-binary, but for years I struggled with my gender identity and so to see a character on screen just being the gender that they are without any fuss is really special. I love Dana so much.

I'm glad that Raine got introduced in The Owl House tho, because as a Non-Binary with female features (in which I'm happy for), it shows that even Non-Binary folk can still look the same without changing themselves. I just hate how people make Non-Binary as a trend and that it needs to be "androgynous" like- NO?? Non-Binary folk can dress up the way they want

Raine was incredibly important for me to see, and I see a lot of myself in them despite being white & 19. … Although I straight-up missed their identity the first time I watched their episode, bc I got caught up in a character I related heavily to- But honestly, the rep in Owl House is solid so far, and I’m excited to see how they can do even better

Someone "complimented" me basically saying "Don't worry, you look very andro." And it really caught me offguard. You're basically implying that I have to and wish to look androgynous. NO! Anyways I am glad we are seeing more representation, especially diverse one since I pretty much fit the Non binary stereotype and feel guilty about it for some reason.

I think representation done the way Raine was done is very important, as an LGBT+ Genderfluid bisexual person myself it gets so tiring when lgbt rep is always used as a lesson or when their sexuality or gender identity are always such a massive part of their character arc. I think treating them as special in that way or focusing only on those things further separates them from "the norm", even though they should be included as a part of the norm because we ARE normal. Acting like we're special in some way just further separates us from society and I honestly hate it. As someone who was on the fence about watching Owl House before i think I might just pick it up. Any time I asked someone for recommendations on cartoons and shows, id hear Owl house at least one time, and every time their only way of pitching it to me was "there are gays in this show!" and im like...ok? Do you really think even as an LGBT+ person that my standards are SO LOW that if the only good thing you can say about the show to me is that it has representation, that id watch it just because of that? It's frustrating because this has happened to me with other media too that i didnt end up watching until many months or even years later because of this bullshit lol

Raine is a perfect example of how to have representation. It doesn't need to be this overblown, "coming out", walking queerbait. It should fit naturally into the world and be accepted as such, ya know, like how most of us in the community would like to be treated.

I love Raine. They're one of the reasons I decided to watch The Owl House (that and Luminty). I dont if I want to be them, befriend them or date them. I love this shows queer and neurodivergent representation. Luz has been confirmed as having ADHD by Lana and Gus is autistic coded (or at least by the fandom). Its also so good to see a fellow cis women talking about her relationship with an enby partner. I'm greyace and demi panromantic so it's good to see someone with a simular romantic attraction/sexuality to me. I'm also autistic, Dslyexic, Dsprexic, and have anxiety and probably undiagnosed ADHD so the Neurodivergent representation is really imporant to me.

As a gender fluid person my self I do have an annoying little prank I pull on my friends that I'd just change my pro nounes in the middle of a conversation just to mess with them. But i just do this with just my friends as I'm not comfortable messing around with my gender with people I'm not close with. Don't shoot me one of my friends is also gender fluid and does the exact some thing except for everyone. but it lovely to see a non binary person represent in media that isn't a one off character. And ones that are pronouns used right and treated as an actual character not a lesson to the audience.

10:22 Apologies for being incredibly late, but did you mean misandry? Maybe I'm missing some context clues, but you were talking about most representaiton being AFAB. A small edit, I think I understand what you mean(?) What my pea-brain is understanding is that queer AFAB representation is more common because of the combination of misogyny and homophobia, leading to queer AMAB representation becoming less common. Although, The Owl House still succeeds on that front because of Willow's dads. Overall one of the most representative shows ever.
