First off, thank you for sharing! Second, good luck Team Syd and Macky! Really looking forward to the Everesting video, as I have this challenge on my to-do list as well. Third, I can relate to this process as a former ultramarathoner and now ultra endurance cyclist. Last night I prepped for a 240-mile race across Minnesota this coming weekend where I made 21small burritos, totaling 6000 calories, plus a bag of olives (500 calories) and two bags of Skratch Labs hydration mix for electrolytes for an additional 3000 - 4000 calories. Whew! Tonight will be the finalizing of packing everything on the bike and making sure I have everything to cover most emergencies. Whew! That being said, I think this video is a great example of what it's truly like to prepare for these types of all-day challenges and something people need to learn and understand before attempting them. It is so critical to plan everything for these kinds of efforts: food, drink, calorie counting, support logistics, emergencies and repairs....everything! GOOD LUCK!!!

Very interesting view of the preparation side of one of your endeavors! And I'm sorry if one of the other commenters has already pointed this out, but next time you want to stabilize a tripod in a windy location just hang a camping stuff sack full of rocks from the hook attached to the bottom of the center column (that is its intended purpose). Mine was a fundraiser so I was trying to do some promotion and donor relations as well as prep the ride. I feel like there should be a special everest- partners club. The partner of the everester does so much work too, and lots of times it isn't very glamorous, so thanks for being awesome Syd!

At least your only did an Everesting not a Trenching. James Lowsley Williams from GCN did one. It's basically the reverse of an Everesting. But you descend the height of the Mariana Trench. But you still need to cycle back to the top.

@brianricketts4320
@brianricketts4320 3 жыл бұрын
A few differences, Henry was climbing a pretty tame forest road compared to Macky and a much shorter course never mind the elevation as Macky is toping out at over 3600 meters. He also has a ton of support from GMBN and the video just touches on what he was bringing and doesn't cover the camera equipment utilized. Please no I am not taking anything away from Henry cause any Everesting attempt is crazy and amazing, just why they might have so much gear. Everyone has a different process and some prepare more than others.
@koho
@koho 3 жыл бұрын
Macky's attempt is insanely harder than Henry's (not to take away anything from his). This route tops out above 12,000 feet, so he'll have about 1/3 less oxygen at the top and about 18% less on average. If Macky succeeds it needs to be recognized as some sort of world record.

Do you ever get, or how do you deal with, sleep anxiety before a big day like this? I will often times toss and turn all night and be completely unable to sleep, just because we decided on an early start time for the weekend ride. I’ve always wondered how pro athletes dealt with anxiety before a big event. I would be totally unable to sleep.
@sydandmacky
@sydandmacky 3 жыл бұрын
Definitely a thing. What seems to help me is trying to get really good sleep the nights before the night before. Then, when you can't sleep the night before it isn't as big a thing, which makes you less stressed and more likely to be able to sleep!

What Macky is attempting is insanely harder than the record setting runs. Is it even humanly possible to "Everest" when the route tops out above 12,000 ft?? There's about 1/3 less oxygen at the top vs. sea level and about 18% less on average. This would have to qualify as a world record of some kind.
