I used to prefer malta back until 2016, because then there was true maltese architecture, limestone buildings with colorful maltese balconies, now they are building gray and modern buildings which is getting sad and boring as it isnt that interesting anymore, thanks for the lovely video again! :)😁

Sad but true, But mostly people want modern built buildings limestone is not the easiest to maintain in modern life

"They" ruined it well before 2016. The usual story of a number of influential individuals and corporations making obscene amounts of money while destroying the environment and quality of life for others not at the top rungs of the ladder. They throw a few coins of silver at them to keep them at bay and lead them into thinking that they are prosperous. I'd hate to be around when they realise what's happening.

Talk about a trip down memory lane !!! when you stated your walk that's where my family used to rent a villa for a month in the summers back in the late 70s over looking the valley and cow farm and to top it all the guy you started to talk to at end of video, i knew him years ago from Islington North London and have not seen him in many years, now i no where he's been. Lol Also where you started the walk is where the Magician of Malta used to live , he used to entertain at all the major hotels back in the day and was also on Maltese TV very often . If you went the other way when you started your walk and stayed above the valley it would of brought you to where you finished at the open air disco and Saint Julian Police station also you could of got to the path that goes down the middle of the valley as well . I had some very scary memorable nights as a teenager walking up the old dusty road from the disco up to the villa at San Gwan with people's dogs from the newly built villas on that old dusty road.

I love seeing Malta and Gozo green, I doubt that it was me, yet I was certainly thinking about telling you that, that there is still a lot of green in Malta during the winter, and that you should film it. Even though I don't care for Malta being built up so much, I think that people exaggerate, as if every single spot is over developed. In the winter it is more obvious the remaining green beauty, it being so much greener, especially in Gozo, if you find the right spots. Drought is partially why Malta and Gozo loose their green.

Sadly walking around I noticed many valleys source is now blocked and after the rain they soon get dry, and many complain of flooding that are built in valleys not sure what they expect

@@EnglishmaninMalta not all modernization is good, certainly not, I have noticed that at least some valleys are being turned in to farm land, valleys filling with water would destroy the crops.

THAT WAS QUITE A WALK STEVE - from green San Gwann 🌿 🎄 to salty San Giljan 🏖 🌊. That round dry stone structure @ 5:30 is called a "GIRNA" (not "Mandra" as stated in another comment). Remember the "Tigullio" Disco Club 🕺🎶 🍻 very well. I notice it's still open for business 😲!! Two books 📚 about Malta walks I know of are : "Walking in Malta & Gozo" by Douglas Lockhart AND "Walking on Malta (incl Gozo & Comino) by Paddy Dillon.. THANKS STEVE 🚶 🎥 👏. Cheers 👍 🇲🇹 ♥ 🇪🇺 ™

@5:30. I believe that small round stone building is a "Mandra", which in my time was used as a holding pen for farm animals. You can imagine the filth, stench and chaos while the animals were in there. Therefore, the word "mandra" is more often used in colloquial maltese, especially by old timers such as I, as any dirty, chaotic place unfit for human habitation. My mum often used the term to describe the messy state us 9 kids made around the house 🙄. (In politics, a not so famous Labour Party leader of a bygone era used the term "Mandra Malta" in referring to Xandir Malta, the then National broadcaster, for allegedly being overtly biased against his party).
