Can everyone stop arguing about who won ww2 for the allies? Every major allied nation played it's part and they all equally won the war. For instance, without Russia, we would have lost more of Africa because of extra german troop allocations. Without Britain, the US would not be able to successfully invade Europe via France and the German air force could have been allocated to North Africa. And without the US and their lend lease program, most of the stuff lost by the british at dunkirk couldn't have been easily replaced and Russia would potentially lose more land to the Germans. So please, stop putting one nation above another; be glad that we did all form an alliance.

+ElAshtonio Well kinda have to argue as your post included tons of problems. First of all Axis couldn't send more troops to Africa as the logistical problems were already a critical problem for Rommel so more troops would actually be a problem than help. Same with more planes, the Germans couldn't support them. And as for the Soviets losing more land. Well not really as most of the Lend-Lease material came after 1942 ie. after Germany had lost the war. So lack of Lend-Lease wouldn't have resulted in loss of critical land even if it had led to loss of land.

Similar to what happened in the actual battle though Cornwallis wasn't present for this one. The British force was led by Tarleton (supposedly represented by "Tavington" in the film). The militia did form the main lines at the front and fired two volleys at the British before retreating to the rear where the regular forces surprised the advancing British. What the film misses is the double envelopment maneuver the militia forces pull off to engulf the British and force a retreat. It's actually a pretty big maneuver to omit and I'm really not sure why they did.

+dragon balls Yeah, really hilarious how a nation took advantage of other older powers misfortunes and leap frogged them at a time of weakness and exploited them even as 'allies' with manipulative political moves. Suez Canal Incident for instance, another case of the US backstabbing their British allies and fully profiting from it themselves. I mean I can't blame the USA for doing it but it was still fucking sneaky. Like watching Europe burn in WWII until it took Adolf Hitler declaring war on the USA himself and Pearl Harbor happening to bring the USA into the fight. Also do you think it is funny that the British Empire still reigned longer as no.1 than the USA has, and do you also think it is funny that you are speaking English and most modern inventions are thanks to the British to this day? Or maybe you find the British burning the white house down in 1814 amusing.

This battle does indeed resemble a mix of Cowpens and Guilford Courthouse. Only difference is Cowpens was Banastre Tarleton's debacle, Cornwallis wasn't present. Tarleton was badly outmatched by the cool headed Gen. Dan Morgan where leadership is concerned. It cost the Brits an entire battalion, and they were run off the field.....a first for regular army battles in the South. Cornwallis' campaign to invade North Carolina became a hellish nightmare, even before Guilford Courthouse. The cat and mouse chase to crush Greene did little more than turn the Southern British Army into a tired, disease ridden shambles, reduced badly in numbers by endless hit and run skirmishes. Cornwallis took the field at Guilford Courthouse, but at an awful cost. He said "another such victory would ruin the British Army". Greene's army survived largely intact, minus militia, to harass British forts at Charleston, Savannah, and Ninety-Six.

***** The American Revoutnary war started in 1775. It took the french 6 fucking years to arrive. The war was already long well before the frenchies arrived. Prior to that the Americans actually held out on their own completely. The British northern campaign was has already forced into a stalemate by 1778 by the Americans and Americans alone. Which is why the British stated a southern campaign at all, and in doing so admitting defeat in the north. The British southern campaign was also defeated by the Americans and Americans alone by the the early summer of 1781, before french arrival. So in review before the french even arrived: Brits Northern Campaign against the Americans1775-1778= Stalemate Brits Southern Campaign against the Americans1779-1781=Defeat, needed the Royal Naval to rescue them after a two year campaign, proving this fact. In short, the Americans were already winning the war before the french even arrived, debunking your horseshit entirely. The only thing I don't like is the first British line keeps running right at the entire rebel army after they've already come over the top of the hill. They should have become confused and panicked and tried to reform a battle line, and then the rebels just unload on them with everything they've got (like they do in the actual scene), and then charge and beat down the remnants, and that's when the second British line comes over the hill. Just seems stupid to have the redcoats fanatically charge into loaded guns like that. I hate when movies remove the natural human instinct of self-preservation.

I always watch these movies about the American revolution all the way up thru the Civil War and wonder how nobody ever invented a more efficient way engaging the enemy than just standing in lines and waiting to get shot. So many killed and wounded for no reason.
@Pikkabuu6 жыл бұрын
Because this is the most efficient way of engaging the enemy at an open field. Command-and-control was not good enough to command troops in too rought terrain and so large battles had to be fought on open terrain so that the commanding officers could see what was happening. And as for the troops they needed to form on large formations as due to the inaccuracy of the muskets and its bad RoF infantry needed to use volleys instead of short aimed bursts. Being in formation also meant that the troops could hold against the enemy in melee and especially against cavalry when formed into a square. Skirmishers who couldn't form squares couldn't keep cavalry away and so would be easily overrun by cavalry. That is why no-one thinked of a better way as there simply wasn't a better way until the weapons infantry used improved. Also FYI the US Civil War was so bloody as the troops simply traded shots which meant that both sides took horrible casualties. During the era of muskets the idea was to give few quick volleys and then to charge in as the victor was decided in melee and so melee provided less bloody engagements.

@@Pikkabuu To add onto that, Walking was done as to not tire men when the enemy wasnt in effective range so you were safe, but also even in range of the enemies guns walking was an easier way to maintain unit cohesion. everyone walks at roughly the same pace, but men can vary wildly while running.

+Dovahkrab "WE SHAVED UR AZZ!" Haha yea, shall we examine that claim? You enter Late, like always - Dec 1941, dragged KICKING AND SCREAMING into the war by Japan, suck Britain dry through the one sides lend-lease pact, Or shall we bring up the 'destroyers for bases' pact? Where you demanded military bases in return for 50 WWI era destroyers, 39 of which were inoperable! Your first battle against the axis at kessarine pass was a disastrous defeat, your Generals (Douglas McArthur in particular) was a moron who preferred glory hunting rather than doing his job, thus loosing the Philippines, then launches a suicide mission to reclaim them, neglects to mention how it was the British MAUD Committee that actually began the development on the A-bomb, Britain who invented Radar and the Jet, Britain who held the line ALONE Against the Nazis while you fucks did jack shit. Britain who drove Rommel out of North Africa. All of this AFTER we win the battle of Britain (June1940-1941) on our OWN (IE Without your idiotic arses.) Oh but where is your mention of the Soviets who took over 70% of the Nazi war machine? Conveniently forgotten eh yank? You saved our ass, yea, like you saved your own ass in Vietnam? Look what happens when we aren't there to hold your hand... You didn't save shit yank, that propaganda you are fed from birth has fucked you up. If you were actually taught history you would know what a pathetic pile of shit that claim is. But hey, we saved you from the Japanese. ;) Thank us later.

Did the French switch over to the Napoleonic uniforms before, or after the revolution? they looked much better imo, that white/baby blue doesn't do them justice
@GamesLegitament8 жыл бұрын
It was after the revolution that France switched uniforms. During the time of the old regime French troops wore white uniforms.

Lotak Smith - As to your question "Did the French switch over to the Napoleonic uniforms before, or after the revolution? they looked much better imo, that white/baby blue doesn't do them justice", It was after our revolution. Napoleon did not become France's emperor until 1804. (www.biography.com)
