In this video I begin a multi-part series following the ancient Peddars Way trail, leaving Knettishall Heath and wading through the flooded river Thet before heading through Roudham Heath, across the A11 and into Stonebridge in Wretham. This ancient Drovers route and Roman Road takes me through some of the most picturesque countryside Norfolk has to offer - Fenland, heathland, Pine Breck woodland, beautiful Deciduous woodland, alongside rivers, past stunning wetlands, over rolling hills and finally emerging on the unrivalled North Norfolk Coast. So please join me as I explore this gem of the East. I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!

It amazes me that there have been 16,608 views and of those views only 829(thumbs up) likes and 5 dislikes(thumbs down) before my own like.. Guys and Gals help support this type of content by liking it if you liked it.. naturally dislike if you don't. It's the likes that help the most. Thank you Simon for the tour. It is nice seeing other parts of the world being from the US.

That highway crossing is a little sketchy but the walk thru there is like amazing to see the bomb craters that is a reminderbodmf really not so long ago all the chaos on earth we went thru. The battles that were fought and the terror endured. Good channel you have simmon I'm glad Scout woke me up to it. 👍👍

Hey Simon I know you said you were just walking today but I thought about a tip I saw on you tube by using empty bread bags to put your socked feet inside your boots and the bag came up almost to your knees. It didn't do much for the boots of course but as long as the water didn't come over the bread bag your feet remained dry. Nice video! and it was just a thought

Cheers Woods! Once you’ve got wet feet, there’s no point in trying to avoid the water really! Loads of deep history in this area - going right back to pre-history! Stone Age artefacts have been found all over the place, plus burial mounds, ancient henges and flint mines, right through history - Bronze Age, Roman occupation, Viking and Danish, you name it! We are very lucky! Maggie needed a wash anyway, so it was a bonus! 😁

Don't think iv'e ever heard of that one, heard of the Icknield Way, have wanted to walk the Icknield Way since watching Tony Robinsons TV program on it. Have to look into that one too now, sounds promising. We stay at The Forestry Commission log cabins at Thorpe Forest sometimes when in the area, thanks again mate.

Cheers James - those cabins always look lovely - especially on a cold damp winter evening - they look so warm and inviting!! The Peddars way starts where the icknield way finishes and at the other end of the icknield way is the ridgeway making a continuous trail more than 200 miles long. One day maybe!! Atb, Simon.

Yeah mate the cabins are quite good, well equipped etc etc, en-suite rooms, under floor central heating, dish washers, log burners, Sky TV, internet and even a hot tub on your veranda if you pay a little extra. They're called "log cabins" but that description doesn't do them justice really. We've stayed at most of The Forestry Commissions cabin sites over the last several years, they have several or more up and down the country, will be staying at the new one at Bedgelert this year sometime, supposed to be good. Thanks again mate

Looks very interesting. I hear pheasants in the background I think. Would be helpful to have a buddy help you with the filming. Good luck. Hate getting my feet wet, makes your whole day kind of soggy.

Carrying the dog over the boardwalk Simon - Now that's one man and his dog with adventure thrown in. When you said you were going to squeeze a bit more water out of your socks I could see you putting it in for the brew. Now that would be pushing it maybe. Well the Peddars Way looked like a trail I'd enjoy. Thanks for sharing. All the best. Mark P.S I check my feed nearly daily but have not come across your videos. I'll keep looking.

Hahaha! No way I was carrying her, 45kg of daftness right there! I probably could have filled a cup with what I wrung out! It’s a lovely trail, typically flat heathland and woodland to start then rolled my hills towards the coast, lots of history and stunning views.lookng forward to the next section! Atb, Simon.

Not advisable to be doing the trail when wet and with a dog then. I can just imagine the trail. I've been on google - lots of variety as you mention. Nothing better Simon. Have a great weekend.

Wye Explorer - I’ve done the route several times, but this is the first time the river had spilled over its banks, it was just a result of many weeks of weird goings on with the weather- the land is very sandy around that area, drainage isn’t usually a problem! As for the dog........well.......

Hi Simon, wonderful countryside. A friend and I are planning to do this b route in a few weeks time. I have a few questions: - do you think the whole of the Pedders Way can be walked over just 1 weekend? - where do you think are good places along the route to camp overnight? - what do you recommend as the best way to get back to the start where the car will be parked? Is there reasonable public transport in the area? Cheers.

I like to see the English countryside...as well as to visit it from the USA. Today's jaunt looks more like 'Wellies' than hiking boots. The reheat food review was doubtless useful to many...but I would incline to a Cornish pastie or Scotch egg for a hiker's lunch! I am one who enjoys maps! Found your site thanks to 'that bloke in Kent' and I do like your content.

Haha - can’t beat a pasty for lunch! Thanks James! It was a bit wet under foot that day, hard to imagine now as were in the middle of a heatwave! Glad you came over, thanks for watching. Atb, Simon.

Never seen a red kite in Norfolk. And I'm from Norfolk. Did see one at Leeds festival. Well, the day after. I knew they were about up north but never thought we had them in Norfolk. Definitely never seen one there.

Hi Simon, hubby and me are really enjoying your videos from whereever you go but mostly like the ones where Maggie is with you. About Maggie I have a question: Why does she sometimes wear a strap on her snout? Could you elaborate on that please? And by the way, we live in the Carribean island of st Eustatius.

That bombing hole thing reminds me of a similar thing near where I am from. Never really known for sure what they were. Was told they were "sinkholes". But I am from this general area and near 3 current US Air Force bases.

Some of those holes are bomb holes from the war, others are pits left from excavations to remove marl and clay from the ground. 👍
