I don't think alphazero could have had the strength rating of 4000 points, because I don't think it could beat SF 13 today (3700 points). When he played SF 8, it was an old, weakened version. In any case, today alphazero no longer plays, a bit like the deep blue of the time, used only as a test but never made available

4000+ is an exaggeration, I agree. But you seem to think that sf8 is weak and would lose most games against sf13. This is not so. Improving a program is kinda tuning: you improve something but you lose something else. A lot of testing is needed to know that the new program is stronger on average than the previous version. Plus the hardware is constantly improving, some stuff which didn't work so well before become relevant now. Again lots of tuning and testing with the new available hardware and you get a new version of sf. Sf has been releasing a new version every 8 or 9 months on average. They are not rewriting the programm between versions. Still I m very thankful for the sf team to make each new version available for us. I don't think sf13 would clearly beat alphazero. I think it would be very close. If sf13 wouldn't take the lead early in such a match, then it's likely to lose, because alpha can learn by himself and from played games whereas sf cannot.

@@junwei8480 Hi! Chess.com is not God, not even the chess God. The chess Goddess is Kaissa. Jokes aside, elo points are based on results avd the strngth of opponents. Alpha played only one opponent. And at this kind of level, we don't exaxtly know what the difference of 200 elo points mean. Elo is not a completely objective measure of chess strength, of results yes, ofcstrength no. What is the difference? Well, one of them is that a difference between 1500 and 1700 is not the same as 2500 and 2700, which is not the same as between 3500 and 3700. It's each time 200 elos difference, but it's not comparable. It's just based in results, number of games played, elo of opponents. It's not like 2cm more in high jumping is always 2cm more regarrdless of th height. I hope you understand me, it's not as precisely objective as people mean. What I saw is that Alpha played very differently that other programms. With deep strategic ideas, I was shocked when I saw some of them. Sf13 plays with devilish precision, but still like a usual computer. I would say sf is much deeper in calculations and tactics, while Alpha is much deeper in strategy and positional sacrifices. Such a match would be a fantastic clash of styles! I know most people think that sf13 would win easily. I'm not so sure. It's a bit like Kasparov versus Petrosian with the difference that Petrosian (alpha) can learn by himself and improve during the match, whereas Kasparow (sf13) cannot. I believe sf would take the lead, but whether it would win a long match (100 games or more), I don't know. By the way, the results of decisive games between Garry (well before his prime) and Tigran (well past his prime) are 2-2, with fantastic games well worth studying!

I thought AlphaZero zéro only had a match between Stockfish 8 and Stockfish 10. The introduction of NNUE in Stockfish 12 gave Stockfish AlphaZero like capabilities?

Because black rook is worth noting here. It can't get to the h file to enter the game and is boxed in the squares g6, g8 and f8. It can't scape from the queen side either, while the bishop is strong. That is why it was exchanged.

Alphazero is not rated 4000+ that time stockfish was 3150 and alpha was 3450 .. nowadays leela is more powerful than alphazero and stockfish nnue is the most powerful chess engine

Great opinion but I don't agree with you... Alphazero has no specific elo but I am sure it would be higher than normal engines. I am sure that google has developed Alphazero in last few years, and I wish we can see some games for it in the future.

@@CM_AG Well but this is the 'old' version if AZ and in fact it was shown that it had a rating of about 3460. There is no room for opinion and it would loose to todays stockfish and LC0, which was also shown by recreating the AZ vs Stockfish match with modern SF against old SF. Plus how DeepMind compared SF against AZ was not entirely fair..

I think that too many people are focusing on the game, which I also follow, as if this were an ordinary player. Since I have significant knowledge, and since I believe that Hawking and Musk were right, I am really anxious by the self-taught nature of this AI. This particular AI (and its more generalized, even more recent variant MuZero) is not the worrisome thing, albeit it has obvious, potential applications in military logistics, military strategy, etc. The really scary part is how fast these were developed after AlphaGO debuted. We are not creeping up on the goal of human-level intelligence. We are likely to shoot past that goal amazingly soon without even realizing it, if things continue progressing as they have. The early, true AIs will also be narrow and not very competent or threatening, even if they become "superhuman" in intelligence. They will also be harmless, idiot savants at first. Upcoming Threat to Humanity. The scary thing is the fact that computer speed (and thereby, probably eventually AI intelligence) doubles about every year, and will likely double faster when super-intelligent AIs start designing chips, working with quantum computers as co-processors, etc. How fast will our AIs progress to such levels that they become indispensable -- while their utility makes hopeless any attempts to regulate them or retroactively impose restrictions on beings that are smarter than their designers? At first, they may have only base functions, like the reptilian portion of our brain. However, when will they act like Nile crocodiles and react to any threat with aggression? Ever gone skinny dipping with Nile crocodiles? I fear that very soon, before we realize it, we will all be doing the equivalent of skinny dipping with Nile crocodiles, because of how fast AIs will develop by the time that the children born today reach their teens or middle age. Like crocodiles that are raised by humans, AIs may like us for a while. I sure hope that lasts. As the announcer in Jeopardy said about a program that was probably not really an advanced AI long ago, I, for one, welcome our future, AI overlords.
