Love the jig! I’ve been looking for a way to make steep angled crossed edge half laps for a cabinet base I’m thinking of building. I think I’m going to do a hybrid of this and the wood whisperer’s jig. I’ll probably use a guide bushing instead of a flush trim bit. I think that might make setting the depth of cut a little easier since you’re not having to worry about where the bearing is sitting. I like your T-track idea. Can’t wait to make this! Thanks for posting a video of this!

You can do similar with a paperbag instead of blue tape and carpenters glue instead of spray adhesive. put the glue on both sides and sandwich the paperbag. separate with a chisel. I learned it for turning bowls on lathe. I think it is a stronger connection.

is there reason to make both smaller sides movalble? i suppose you can one fix side and end up with three knobs having about the same jig.
@DesignCraftWorkshop
@DesignCraftWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
It allows you to make more complicated and varied angle lap joints. IT's much nicer to reference the flat fence when you need to make a 45-degree cross lap joint for example. But definitely make it your own 👍
@rwe2156
@rwe2156 2 жыл бұрын
Good job. Few questions or problems I see with this. Why not cut slots with router? Also, why not just let work piece hang over edge of bench instead of spacer? Something to register it square? Wider rails for bigger router?
@DesignCraftWorkshop
@DesignCraftWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Robert! You can definitely make this the way you states. Few cuts with a router, but I didn't have a router table for me to ensure the slots were straight. The spacers is used so that the router wouldn't eat into the edge guides as you're making a cut. And for sure you can make the rails widers for larger routers, but I intended this for trim routers. Thanks for your feedback and tuning in! I appreciate it!

Do both sides of the jig need to slide? One side could be fixed at 90 degrees and so you would not need to square it up? Obviously this will limit you to 90 degree cross cuts.
@DesignCraftWorkshop
@DesignCraftWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
it certainly doesn't have to slide if you don't need to. But it wouldn't be possible to but an angle lap joint and have the fence line up against the work piece. The jig was made for unlimited flexibility, but if your needs are less than that, then sure you can fix one side. Hope it helps!
@ashleylordess5621
@ashleylordess5621 2 жыл бұрын
I know this old, but the part where you said you didn't have enough surface area for your router to sit on, you could've just routed the other side, then moved one side of the jig closer. Then do the middle portion.
@DesignCraftWorkshop
@DesignCraftWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think you're referring to the half-lap joint. The issue is having the router tip over since one side isn't supported. Therefore I added in that smaller little guide.

Dado sets aren't available in some countries! That is news to me. What's up with that?
@DesignCraftWorkshop
@DesignCraftWorkshop 4 жыл бұрын
yea! In Europe for a tables saw to be considered safe, you will need to operate it with a guard and riving knife. This is impossible with a dado set and therefore it's not allowed. I believe they make their table saw arbors shorter as well so that dado stacks can't be installed.

I have to say that while this jig is decent and I have seen similar made before, it just isn't appropriate to use it with a trim router. You need a wider more stable base plate for a jig like this. That rabbit and half lap you cut was really sketchy.
