I've been a bit stuck in audio. I know it's just a matter of tinkering with it until I find the happy medium, but I wish I could nail it sooner than later 😂 I have a setup similar to Mark Wiens, where I have the Rode Videomicro + a wireless mic system plugged to a L/R channel splitter/combiner so the wireless lav mic occupies 1 channel, and the Rode mic the other channel. I do that for 2 reasons. 1 it's for having a backup audio source, and 2 is for being able to record better sound to what my camera is being pointed at while having me behind the camera with a crystal clear sound. That way the sound of both "the street action" and myself have have decent audio levels. The catch has been balancing the both so I do as little work as possible in post. Maybe some low-cut filter, maybe a little compression and call it the day.

For now I really don't use eye/face focus much, it loves to grab other people's eyes and faces randomly even if all I want to do it's to shoot a simple panning b-roll 😅😅 so I'm with the focus box on 😆👍

Oh and like you, I started to shoot in 30fps, makes it much easier to transition between photo and video. I just rotate the shutter speed dial to 60 and it works great. Sms for when shooting in 60fps, I turn the shutter dial to 125, although 120 is the correct for the rule, but I don't see much of a difference and it saves me time and the grief of not forgetting another setting 😅👍

@@ThierryGibralta 😅 whenever I drop a video I'll give you a heads-up, I'm still too self-conscious when dealing with random people. And frankly I haven't found my way of storytelling. I'm sure things will workout with practice and more practice. For now I'm just an enthusiast aspiring to start a channel project. Very niche, but hopefully something that everyone can take a bite of and get some entertainment from 😀👍 Sometimes people get very curious to know what you do and what you are filming that at least here in the US you lose some personal space. Which can be nice and awkward depending how the first impression goes by. I've had some very interesting conversations, and some not so great ones either 🤣🤣

The 70-300mm + the 1.4x teleconverter is the best combination for portable telephoto on the Fujifilm system. It's a combo that never leaves my bag. You basically have a 100-400mm at a fraction of the size and weight for the price of 1 F Stop.

Frame rate depends on where you live. In Europe you should use 25/50 (rather than 30/60) to avoid flicker under artificial light.

In Europe 23.98fps at 1/50 shutter speed under artificial lights and 1/48 under natural light works well.

Good summary of settings. But the X-T4 can't power the Rode Video Micro. Is this what you used for the video? I was hoping to use mine together, but if you plug in the Micro, I believe you're recording audio from the camera mic.
@ThierryGibralta2 жыл бұрын
I have been recording my KZfaq videos with this setup and I can assure you that the external microphone is used when recording audio. Otherwise my sound would be much worse. Have you set the audio to MIC? Is the cable correctly plugged?
@andremora34922 жыл бұрын
@@ThierryGibralta Interesting. The X-T4 manual states that ”microphones that require plug-in power cannot be used.” I haven't tested it because the Rode Video Micro doesn't have it's own battery supply. From the Rode manual: “The VideoMicro … uses the plugin power supplied via your camera’s microphone input.” I'm curious what it's doing for you - I guess I should try too!

How about a video comparing film simulations for video? That could be a fun yet informative video. Generally I've been using classic chrome and doing as little as color grading as possible. Just gotta remind myself to lock the auto white balance every time 😅😅😅 I know Eterna gives a little breathing room for dynamic range and it's Fujifilm most popular film simulation for video shooters that don't want to go into F-log. I think it would be nice comparing the film simulations and seeing what it can do 😎👍

And for stabilization? How do you set the X-T4? Thanx
@williamaungleyraud2 жыл бұрын
It depends on the lens. The problem with the X-T4 is that you cannot activate DIS without activating IBIS, and the X-T4 IBIS for wide angle lenses result in very wobbly footage. So you need to make a choice weather or not you want to stabilize in post only, a combination of in camera stabilization + in post, or in camera stabilization only. I mess with stabilization settings all the time, and I own almost every vloggable lens available except the Viltrox 13mm and the Samyang/Rokinon 12mm. Neither I vlog on anything beyond 16mm. (the Tamron 17-70mm f2.8 is also an alternative not quite 18mm but I didn't try this one either.) So if you have a lens with OIS, make sure your camera is always in boost mode under power management in the settings menu, this is different than boost mode in stabilization. With an OIS lens I prefer to have IBIS on, and if I'm shooting wide enough like with the 10-24mm I'll turn DIS on as well. However don't bother with lens correction crop because it won't further stabilize your footage. I leave boost stabilization always on, I don't notice much of a difference, and it doesn't crop, so why not? With the 16-80mm I turn IBIS, but I leave DIS off because 16mm is already very narrow for my particular vlogging style, but I'll probably further stabilize in post. So it will suffer a minor crop. I love using the 16-55mm f2.8, but unfortunately it doesn't have OIS, so IBIS does help a little, but I can get jerky, so I would also further stabilize in post. Anything 16mm or wider will have wobbly corners if IBIS is turned on (the new X-H2S doesn't have much of this issue as it's IBIS is superior, greats hopes for the X-T5 😎) I've heard of some people being able to correct some of the wobbling footage in Davinci Resolve, but I have yet to explore it more. If you use a gimbal, I still recommend you to have IBIS/OIS on despite what others might tell you because it does help you to smooth out the micro jitters, the gimbal itself won't be perfect. My personal bottom line is that the X-T4 doesn't have superb stabilization out of camera, but it's highly useful, just give that extra touch of stabilization in post. Keep in mind that there is no perfect lens so there will always be something to compansste for. I hope you find any of this information helpful 😎📷

@@williamaungleyraud o have Sigma 16mm f1.4 and Viltrox 56mm f1.4
@williamaungleyraud2 жыл бұрын
@@AndreaBuondonno I'll assume the Sigma doesn't have OIS so you'll probably try IBIS on and test weather you prefer DIS and boost on or off. The IBIS should relief some of the jittery footage, but it doesn't replace walking technique. I hope the Viltrox is better than the Fujinon 56mm because the Fuji really wasn't great for video due to slow AF. But you have good lenses, and you can definitely do vídeo work with them. You really want to experiment in camera VS in post stabilization vs a combo of both. For me it's always comes down to combo, but it's time consuming since my 6 years old laptop is dying for a replacement 🤣👍
