Bless your homesteading , hobby farm heart! I love to see people going back to the country life! My husband and I grew up on and still have a real working farm both with livestock and crops. We actually have two huge farm yards and houses eight miles apart and several quarters of tillable land. Lots of work!!!

@@bored.in.california2111 Animals also teach children how to be loving, empathetic, interaction with the world, and being in touch with them own selves. It is absolutely the healthiest place for a child to grow up! Good points on teaching work and family. Teamwork and skills too.

I built a hay feeder and added a tray under it. Once the hay touches the ground mine won't touch it, so any they pull out and don't eat end up in the tray and I just scoop it back in the feeder.

This is the only goat barn video I have been able to find, great stuff. You said hard floor, is that concrete or just packed dirt? Also, really neat that you used wood from your land to build it, love that. Also, you painted the outside to protect against weather and warping? Oh, and it doesn't matter if there are gaps in the slats/panels in the exterior wall, is that needed for ventilation?

Found out early on that isn't gonna work well because they spend all day climbing fences to nibble leaves or whatever. I've been struggling to find info on feeding them. Very informative..thank you!

I like the idea of a small farm with profits am like you in a lot of ways I don't want it to be a full time. but, would mind the extra income. I like the idea of cutting down on labor as much as I can. am just getting started so am thinking auto waters and feeders would be nice for all the animals just one less chore. but, we would still have to check on the animals everyday. just an idea

You seem like a caring guy about your goats, yet, one thing though, don't let your son or daughter climb or step on the goats' hay...goats have very sensitive sense of smell, and can be very picky about the hey, if they sense that someone stepped or walked on it, they might not eat all of it and cause a waste of some hay...

Does goat milk contain lactose?
@thehomesteadpioneer6514
@thehomesteadpioneer6514 8 жыл бұрын
+Katherine Taylor All milk contains a certain level of lactose. However, the amount of lactose found in goat's milk is about 10 percent less than cow's milk and about 40 percent less than human milk. Goat's milk is a natural alternative to cow milk and can comfortably be consumed by many patients who suffer from cow milk allergies or sensitivity. Many people with lactose intolerance can drink goat milk.

Your barn is great, but I would recommend not keeping your full supply of hay in it as hay is known to selfcombust. I know of three barns that recently went up in flames, one lost more than 50 livestock, including two kids I was buying.
@DaHamburglarGT
@DaHamburglarGT 6 жыл бұрын
Kathleen if hay gets wet, it can begin to decompose. This is what causes it to combust.
@tmeadowsdegil2014
@tmeadowsdegil2014 6 жыл бұрын
DaHamburgler...No that is not true. if hay is not properly cured/dried before it is baled it will sweat and the sweating process is what causes heat of high enough temperatures to start fires also this sweating can cause the hay to mold and rot. If the hay gets rained on after bailing it generally will only rot...however there are other conditions that will cause sweating/heat...if you stack new, fresh, properly dried, hay too tight in the barn especially in hot temperatures it can can cause the heating and sweating process......All new fresh hay MUST be loosly stacked to provide airflow to reduce the natural heat!!!! Never never NEVER stack fresh hay tightly!!! ALWAYS check your hay for mold because if your animals are not used to it, can become sick or die from eating moldy hay.!!! I have owned a farm and bailed hay and had horses, cows, pigs, chickens, other animals for many many years. I hope this helps someone.

Cute goats, but don't let your kids climb on the hay or sit in the full feeders. Their boots are caked with mud and fecal matter, high risking bacteria and parasites getting injested that'll give your animals stomach worms. Keep Safeguard handy in case they do.

@dungeonmama660
@dungeonmama660 6 жыл бұрын
Yes it has lactose. However, it's much less and many lactose intolerant people find they can drink it anyways just because it is digested so much faster. I'm allergic to protein compounds in cow milk, can't digest the fats, and am lactose intolerant (I know, fun combination), but I love goat's milk and have no issue with it.
