Any combo of RLLK and RLRLLK in 32nd notes where the doubles are ghosted on the snare and the accents are orchestrated around the kit. The first left stroke in the second pattern can also be ghosted to add a bit more spice. Creating unique combos of these patterns can sound great where the accent is moved from the downbeat to the offbeat and back again. Mike Johnston has a video on this with a specific pattern but I've loved getting creative with it and exploring options.

I need you to know I am 52. Played drums from 15 to 25 and never cared about technique or reading. It was about playing loud and stoned. Then at 25 I just stopped playing. Then at 45 I played at a friends request and fell in love with drums in a way I never had before. I played everyday from 45 to 49. Some days 4-5 hrs. Then hit a devastating divorce (had nothing to do with drums) and couldn’t play for at least a year and a half. Then life changed and I was playing again everyday. I have always wanted lessons but don’t resonate via online. So I forged forward with this insane desire to play and get better. Anyway for a long time I felt like I needed more and I stumbled on this and it opened up a whole new world. THANK YOU for helping me turn another new page!

OK, I just recently set my drums after maybe 20 years of not playing. I was never a great drummer. Started playing this pattern. After getting the pattern down started to modify it a little and moving around the drums. I can’t believe how fast and good I am sounding. Still have a long way to go. Thank you for this!!!

@@RockOn78 it's actually super simple. You simply swing the stick backwards, keeping that fulcrum in between your thumb and first finger. You can rotate the stick, almost in the motion of a circle, forwards and backwards. It's an awesome stick trick, because it gives the illusion that the stick it being thrown or moving fingers, but it is actually staying in the same spot, just being rotated. I hope this helps!

RlRlRll Rlrll Rlrl 7 5 4 = 16 Plus, you can add or take away any of the accents. That, or keep the groupings the same, but change the sticking.

RLRK If there was such a thing as rudiments between hands and feet, or "kit rudiments" then this sticking would have to be one! An essential one too! This is one of the first stickings with a kick in it that makes every beginner go - "whoa, I'm doing next level stuff that pros do too, I'm onto something here!" And it also follows you through your intermediate and advanced stages without diminishing returns. Also, it sounds great the first time you can barely play it on a snare and kick and it only gets better as you develop control and spread it around. It's also a great fill on it's own, a lead, a bridge, a stop, a great building block for a ton of other fills too (one of my favorites fills that start with this sticking is STFK SKSS > RLRK LKRL) It can easily be orchestrated in different ways but also there aren't a crippling amount of options with it; it also loops easily; you can play it to great effect at different rates, at different tempos too; it's a rock staple but it's got it's uses in jazz and in extreme genres of music too. It's also been around since forever and once you recognize it, you find it everywhere. To my ears though it's pretty timeless too, it doesn't sound either modern or old, and it's one of the first stickings that made me think of the drums as one instrument.

"The Nine" is a pattern Weckl uses all the time. I like to play pattern twice as 16th note triplets then finish w a 6 stroke roll. Fun lick!

That’s really versatile, and that you can voice it anyway you think is appropriate, and that’s real freedom in a technique. Of course there is a universe of rhythm combinations, ( like the subtle one bar drum break in we’re in this love together, by Al Jarreau, that can be voiced a lot of different ways as well ) and I think you’re approach to that is a very adventurous way to practice. By the way, I love how close you play to the click! Your time is really good

I have to think carefully about my favorite pattern but.... You’ve made my day today with this one. After beeing more than convincing in my alternate stroke paterns/fills with casual “classic” double stroke patterns I was thinking where and how to start incorporating more “complex” patterns in my grooves/fills... And than I’ve noticed your Instapos about playability of multistroke patterns which in turn led me to this one. I’have a strong feeling that this is the “chosen one” for me. I’ll let you know....

There are so many incredibly versatile patterns out there. I'm no pro, but I find myself using RLRR LRRL and paradiddle-diddles all the time. Lazy speed suits my style, lol. I also really like RLK LRK - it makes it effortless to sound like I'm "moving around" the kit quickly without actually having to move much at all (it also sounds great as 32nds rather than triplets.)

My perfect pattern would have to be RLR(l)(l)K because of how versatile it is in all styles and genres, and if you pay close enough attention, you can find this pattern pretty much everywhere. Some of the greatest artists and KZfaqrs use this pattern a ton. Also, it helps in places where you have no idea what to play or if you need to spice things up without losing that nice pocket feel.

I have two perfect patterns. The inverted Paradidledidle( RLLRRL) and RLL which I combine in various forms. If we call the first one A and second one B I can create patterns like ABAB, AABB, AAAB, etc. without thinking about it. It's cool because it creates patterns of six or nine notes and can be easily applied in triplets. If I want to add a kick in it I usually play the single Right hand hits on a cymbal with the kick.

this is one of my favorite patterns these days. I've also been having a great time with a seven note pattern, that's simply 6 alternating single strokes, and a kick for the seventh note, playing in triplets.... R-L-R-L-R-L-K And I try to accent the SIXTH note every time. Plays really well over two measures...

I come from a second line #1 ska and reggae back round Very loose but tight and has a very unique pocket and fits really good with linears and paradiddles

Adam great video as always. I came up with a pattern I really like as it just fits my limb movements and brain. It is two six note patterns finished with four sixteenth notes. I usually just finish the last four on the bass drum using a double peddle and crash on 1 with a kick. It is: K Hi Tom Left Right Right Left then a six stroke roll starting on Hi Tom then followed by last four sixteenth notes on bass drum and crash on 1. Obviously all played as sixteenth notes.
