Pete, with your plumbing rattling the walls, it's called water hammer. Any decent plumber can fix that for less than $250. If you're capable of using some wrenches you could pick up hammer arrestors at Home Depot and do it yourself for less than $100. Just remember to shut off the water before you wrench on anything......

Likely the reason the gate alignment was off in the first place was the hinge was binding. The guy probably adjusted the throw of the control arms to force it to close more, then noticing it was stressing the motor, told you the motor was worn. After a few cycles, the extra force broke the pin off the barrel hinge. Totally the serviceman's fault for not evaluating the whole system first and if you paid with a credit card I'd contest it through Visa or whoever.

As someone who owns a garage, if you buy a part and ask someone to install it so you just pay labor, then if the part fails you don't have a warranty from the person who installed it. When you buy the part through the installer, they warranty the part and the labor. Otherwise, you would have to pay the labor again if you supplied the part.

My father waz a self employed machinist he fixed big machinery in Manhattan and he was one of the only ones left to do it he walked into a guy's business 1 day who was like a billionaire CELLAS 🍒 CHERRIES in fact .....he fixed their machinery. ,the guy who was the owner came out and ask my father why was gonna cost $10,000 to fix the machine my father looked at him and said" do you know how to fix it ? " and the guy said no. my father said " that's why it cost $10, 000 because I do ." :) that day my father came home and taught me ...Understand that people are not necessarily paying you for the product itself paying you for your knowledge and what you know and they don't ...soooo if you don't want to pay for it...learn it :)

They set their prices by looking at who u are, what kind of neighborhood u live in, how nice your house is, then bang! They hit with a price, they know u can afford.
@patbrantley66303 жыл бұрын
I’m with you Sebastian on calling (not driving) and getting the best price! My retired military dad is 93yo and he would drive 10 miles to save a dime! He never had to call a repairman in his life (except maybe AC) because he could fix anything! My poor hubby! I rag on him all the time for not fixing stuff. As far as your gate goes, I’m glad it didn’t fall on your children or anyone. However, I wouldn’t do business with that first guy that probably caused the problem. I would go with the more expensive guy because “you get what you pay for” as my hubby would say. He’s spot on, too! You guys crack me up! Thanks for giving me things to laugh about through these otherwise gloomy COVID days! Keep up the good work all always listen to your dad’s advice!

I agree! The women in comments are pretty much in agreement not to re-use the first gates guy. Lol

I love watching you guys on Saturday night. You brighten up my weekend each time. You reminded me of 2 events in my life: being in a plastic surgeon's waiting room in Brazil and trying to guess what each person wanted to have fixed; it was more obvious for some than others. When I travelled to Italy, I took a speed boat from Napoli to Capri and both a German Shepard and I ended up lying on the floor, me so sick over a bucket. It took at least 24 hours to feel normal again. Never got on that kind of boat again!

The moment you start to feel motion sickness you have to stop what you’re doing and stare at the horizon. This provides a steady point of reference for the brain and the sickness subsides. “You were right about the motor it’s on the ground but it’s still running”.

You should call up the #1 gate guy and tell him you are coming to visit him at his house to discuss the bill. If his home is as large as yours, he’s got a racket going for sure. But if you get proactive in controlling your outlays, every expense can be deducted and you establish a domicile like Florida and spend at least 3 months there each year, you don’t pay state income tax. Over each 10-year period you saved at least 2.7M. Imagine you take out a 2.7M mortgage on a Florida residence and own it outright in 10 years. All that was being paid in state taxes? That’s a no-brainer, bro.
