PFAS are forever chemicals and the most toxic compounds we know - and the primary path to toxicity is by eating and drinking. These chemicals are everywhere and have been found in everything from food to water to rain.

I work in the environmental remediation industry, and I first heard about this 3 years ago. It is difficult to sample for PFAS because the sampling tools used to sample the water often contaminate the sample. When talking to manufactures it's hard to confirm they are using PFAS free materials, because they don't know. Its nice to see people are talking about this.

You only heard about these chemicals about 3 years ago? I'm going to assume you're wet behind the ears and only just started then. This massive problem with PFASs and mind-boggling number of equally toxic industrial pollutants contaminating every aspect of our environment and lives, including our food, water and air, is what happens when governments are lobbied to prioritise economic ideology over the environment and wellbeing of society. When the full impacts unfold among those with the worst exposomes and death rates go up, those responsible and the fools who support will blame vaccines of something else. Just like windmills are being blamed for whale deaths we know, in most cases, were most likely killed by massive toxin burdens, as so much of the toxic pollutants end up in the sea. Still eating fish, are we?

Unfortunally, I live in Belgium (Yes, with the Pfas Strawberries). I lived near the Antwerp Harbor, only 12 km away from the 3M plant, that has been dumping PFAS and PFOA's in the river Schelde for decades . I have coeliacs disease, a kidney cyst 2 cm in diameter, and I have high cholesterol. Luckily I have not been eating animals and have been mostly plant based for the past 25 years. I have been avoiding non stick pans, but here you can just not escape these toxic compounds. It breaks my hart to think I have been breastfeeding every one of my 3 children for at least 12 months. Antwerp is one of the hotspots for Pfas in the world. Probably only because scientist were looking for it. My youngest son has agreed on participating in a human bio-monitoring study. I am so curious for the results!!! Thanks for the info Chris, and thanks to your lovely wife also ;-)!!!

Looked into that. Compared to these perfluorinated for-ever-chems gyphosate is rather harmless or even beneficial for normal consumers (as far as direct consumption of GMO soy is avoided). When a farmer / gardener inhales it directly its another thing. Organic grains etc have typically higher mold contents due to the restrictions - more serious than easily reducable gyphosate concentrations. Global disuse of g would make food way more expensive than it is already now and infact cause famines and moldy and weed/poison contaminated produce. Its reasonable that the EU now allows g for another 10 years - no good reason against. G discussion on social media is more a conspiracy theory thing.

Thanks! Wow, that's a good and unexpected question. My guess is they did not know. I certainly didnt know about this and I fancy myself as being pretty aware of such things. I really do wonder about the comparison to other known toxic substances. Sometimes I think we worry about the plastic we microwave our leftovers in (forget the environment effect for this thought experiment) and then chase them with a known carcinogen. I don’t know Chris - would take someone like you to sort that out for us. I have a few personal heroes. You are one of them. Thank you.

I should have summarized the episode like that! I would think lab grown meat and fermented dairy would be fine, assuming they filter their water. There have been studies on hydroponic vegetables and they haven't done well because of the lack of water filtration on those farms so far.

@@AmberMichealsCholeNicole-cj7sy haha, chill bruv, you can eat whatever u want, you are not obliged to avoid PFAS. the guidelines generally recommend the following food groups: whole grains, legumes, non-tropical oils, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds, maybe chicken. i also consume skimmed milk and whey protein, even though it probably has PFAS, but if you want you can get calcium from fortified plant milks. vegan whey is also a thing. but you know, "what to eat" is a question that nutritionists and dietitians study for years in order to be able to answer it, so i can only give you a little bit of over-generalized guidance in a youtube comment. feel free to consult with your doctor or a nutritionist or dietitian about it, and maybe show them this video by Plant Chompers about PFAS to see what they think.

Major roadwork construction was being done nearby the 3M factory that stirred up the soil. Suddenly the true extend of the problem came to the public attention. Apparentely even the government knew about it at a certain point. It´s a huge scandal of which we haven´t seen the end yet.

Thanks for this video, very informative. I have been worried about PFAS for awhile. Did not know dairy was especially high. I stopped watching your channel even though I'm still subscribed because it is depressing since I used to love my WFPB diet before my daughter and I became 'allergic to everything'. I can't eat corn or potatoes. She can eat corn, but I can't cook it since I react to it from the cooking steam from boiled corn and tortillas. I can't eat meat either since a lot of meat is treated with vinegar or citric acid, which is derived from corn. I had been having some success with sheep's milk yogurt - when I eat it the pressure sores on my nose from my glasses get better. Oh well. I worry a lot about eggs since they can accumulate a lot of PFAS (I'm allergic to eggs but my daughter eats them). I can't eat legumes either so my diet is pretty low in protein; I seem to do best around 12-15% protein. I had been hoping for an affordable consumer PFAS test; $250 is a lot, but it's half what I had seen quoted a couple of years ago. I hope they come up with a way that people can off-load PFAS without donating blood or plasma - even though it gets diluted in the donor pool, I don't think it's good for sick people to receive PFAS-laden blood products. The cynic in me says there may be more action on this sooner than other contaminants since unlike many others, higher socio-economic status is correlated with higher PFAS burden. But of course, eventually everyone will be affected unless something is done.
