Surprise Ending - Katakataka by Eva Eugenio (0:37)
- The Tondo Conspiracy of 1587-1588 was a revolt planned by Tagalog nobles known as maharlikas, led by Don Agustin de Legazpi of Tondo and his cousin Martin Pangan, to overthrow the Spanish government in the Philippines due to injustices against the Filipinos.
- Legazpi sought help from a Japanese sea captain named Juan Gayo and asked for arms and warriors to fight alongside them in exchange for one-half of the tributes collected in the Philippines.

- The Balangiga Encounter happened on Sept. 28, 1901, when town residents led by Valeriano Abanador initiated an attack against US soldiers. The villagers killed 54 American soldiers using bolos. It was the biggest defeat of the foreign troops during the Philippine-American war.
- In retaliation, General Jacob Hurd Smith, United States Army officer, ordered to, "kill everyone over the age of ten" and make the island "a howling wilderness."
- Most estimates are that American soldiers killed between 2,000 and 2,500 civilians. Some Filipino Historians put the number as high as 50,000 civilians.

- The Hukbong Bayan Laban sa Hapon, commonly shortened as the Hukbalahap, was a socialist/communist guerrilla movement formed by the farmers of Central Luzon.
- Luis Mangalus Taruc was the leader of the Hukbalahap group between 1942 and 1950.
- Casto Jurado Alejandrino was the Hukbalahap's vice-commander, second only to its Supremo, Luis Taruc.
