In this video we explore the philosophy of love within the Lord of the Rings, through the story Beren and Lúthien, Aragorn and Arwen, as well as Tolkien's own life.

And this is one of the biggest differences between LotR and GoT. Game of Thrones is all about egoistic struggle for power, intrigues, deep hatred, rivalries and brutish behaviour. It is so much darker. While it was interesting to follow too, it never touched my heart like LotR did.

Read the books. Even on the show, it is obvious how Ned sacrificed EVERYTHING, including his valuable honour to protect his nephew and the sister who he loved so much. He sacrificed himself to protect his daughters at the end. Catelyn comes back from the dead in the books because of the love she has for her children. The stark siblings love each other and miss each other so much, they are still connected to each other through their wolves and yearn for their family. Danaerys is different in the books than in the show. She is literally a mother figure whose heart bleeds for her subjects and she does everything she can to protect them and love them. Just because it's not aesthetically pleasing love does not mean it is less valuable.

@@stars-and-cloudsYeah. Not only A Song Of Ice And Fire has some noble lessons, people also forget how dark Lord Of The Rings and Tolkiens writings can be sometimes. When the Orcs sieged Minas Tirith, they lauched several dead gondorian soldiers heads to the other side of the wall, in other to intimidate the forces of the west. There is also the Silmarillion, wich has lots of moments in wich darkness wins, and our protagonists meet some tragic and unfair fates.

Yes. GOT is about wallowing in the dirt and behaving like an animal: LOR is about reaching for the stars and becoming a hero.

My favorite part of Beren and Luthien's story is when Thingol demands a Silmaril in return for Luthien's hand, Beren says, "for little do Elven-kings sell their daughters: for gems, and things made by craft." It was a comment that said two things. 1) he was throwing shade at Thingol for valuing a man-made (or elf-made, but you know what I mean) trinket over his daughter. 2) the Silmarils were the most valuable objects in the world that many have fought and to possess, and Beren considered it nothing compared to Luthien, holding her higher than the very light of Valinor.

Even with your short synopsis of the story of Beren & Luthien, I was moved to tears. You should do a video paralleling how Huan’s and Sam’s devotion to their masters made helped them fulfill their missions. Great vid!

@@evelynvongizycki1017 Huan is in the Silmarillion, he is the Hound of Valinor, and was a massive wolfhound that helped Beren and Luthien fight Morgoth and his evil!!

【Shades Finnish Pirates】After the movies i found a girl in a chatroom named Arwen, i approached her avatar and we entered a private chat. We talked about LOTR mostly, mostly of Aragorn & Arwen and we ended up changing emails in an attempt to role-play the love affair of Aragorn & Arwen. We exchanged few emails, both of us trying to be as in character as possible and convey that love that Aragorn & Arwen had. I felt after a while as our messaging had started to lesser that it was time to call the quits, we never officially said goodbye and i think we ended the role-play with good terms with fond memories atleast for me.

I believe love is only possible in fantasy, that's why I love writing it so much, I'm looking forward writing my own fantasy novel. When I have an idea to add all my stories in one book I'll work hard to finish it within 3 months.

God I'm such a romanticist to a fault. Soooo misunderstood because my love can be as childlike or as an adult. My love is genuine but unfortunately this love is not for this world.

Timeless vs. vapid writing: The last Jedi sucked cuz it had to say, “We’ll defeat them not by fighting what we hate but by saving what we love” and LOTR was perfection cuz it SHOWED that message over 3 whole movies. But then LOTR showed that you also have to fight to/for love. So in other words, the only almost redeemable message in TLJ is proven to be stupid on all accounts.
