This video was originally launched as a DVD (which comes with 11 subtitles and you can order contacting the resource center nearest to you). It introduces the way of Christian meditation, and the work and vision of The World Community for Christian Meditation (WCCM). In four parts, and narrated by Fr Laurence Freeman OSB, the video describes the tradition of this ancient way of prayer, John Main's personal journey and re-presentation of the tradition. A teaching on how to meditate is followed by the sharing of experiences by meditators around the world who build the practice into their daily lives. An overview of WCCM describes the life of this global community that has been created by meditation, and which is vibrant in the weekly meditation groups that help newcomers to persevere on the inner journey. The "Meditation" outreach expresses the aspiration of WCCM to express its contemplative life in work for peace, justice and compassion. "Pilgrimage" would be particularly useful for viewing at introductory workshops, group gatherings, and for sharing with people who are interested in the teaching and work of the community.
These are the parts of the video:
1. An Introduction to Christian Meditation (27:10min)
A description of the tradition of this ancient way of Christian prayer, the story of John Main’s personal journey and his re-presentation of the tradition. This part introduces the Christian context of meditation.
2. The Daily Practice (20:00 min)
A teaching on how to meditate. It reminds us that learning to meditate is an ongoing work, and that faithfulness to the daily practice is a liberating spiritual experience open to all.
3. Meditation Creates Community (16:10 min)
An overview of the The World Community for Christian Meditation. It describes the life of this global community that has been created by meditation, and which is vibrant in the weekly meditation groups that help newcomers to persevere on the inner journey.
4. Meditation for the World (19:10 min)
Our new outreach MEDITATIO realises the aspiration of The World Community for Christian Meditation to express its contemplative life in work for peace, justice and compassion.
