The Pinewoods Cemetery in Troy, NY has a history of ghostly children, bleeding gravestones and even a reported grave robbing in 1988. Considered to be a gateway to hell, this defunct cemetery has been left to 'rot', overshadowed by a history of bankruptcy and unclear ownership.

My mom always told me " Son, Don't fear the dead, the living are far more evil". At 51 years old and seeing what humans do, I understand what she meant.

They've really cleaned up the place. When I was a senior at Rensselaer back in 1988, I liked to take long walks alone, and I happened to take one along Pinewoods Ave. It was getting dark, with only a little light from the moon, but I saw these two large pillars with a giant chain across the front to keep vehicles out... apparently replaced now with gates. It seemed like it had once been an entrance, but was almost fully wooded. I was curious and began to walk in. I kept running into graves, statues with arms broken off. By this point, I was pretty spooked, but I just kept going out of fascination, until I reached the mausoleum. Now it is an empty shell, but at the time, all the shelving for caskets was there, having collapsed in on itself. But no caskets. That was enough for me. I decided to turn back The place was more like a forest than a cemetery back then. Only many years later did I learn of its status as a "haunted cemetery."

I went there with my exhusband one time. We were supposed to meet up with a friend who is an avid ghost hunter to explore but se cancelled when we were ur way because her son broke his arm and they had to go the hospital. I wonder now, if that happened spiritually as a deterrent. We were already on our way and stopped at Red Lobster to eat first. We struck up a conversation with our waiter and he, ironically knew of Pinewoods so we said, we have to go now. Upon entering, the wind and tree leaves took on an eerie feel. We proceeded onwards deeper into the trees as the actually cemetery part starts about 200 feet back. I then heard a woman’s voice coming from the sky, it was hard to make out anything she was saying but I asked my husband if he heard it and he did too. It sounded like someone tallking from another level of the house withi the floor in between. The feeling inside was an oppressive feeling and I wanted to get out. We did leave and drove down the road to see if there were any houses having a party or something outside to explain the voice and there was none. It’s funny that the narrator said this place is known to stick with you because I couldn’t shake that place or the feeling for 3 days and I swear I will not go back there.

Creepy as hell. I went to pinewoods when I lived in Troy with my first GF and we both saw some crazy stuff. She wanted to see the crematorium and I never stepped foot into it . We both saw a Native American guy sitting and then vanish unrealistically fast in an open area ...strange shit.

That's amazing that you say native American guy, I was part of a film crew back in the early '80s that filmed a seance there ,and they were talking to a native American person I myself did not hear him cuz I'm not attuned to that stuff, but they swore they communicated with a native American man.

My BFF's great grandparents are buried there. Their stones are the Mother and Father towards the beginning of this video. We went and she found them. Then we saw this with her great grandparents stones in the video. Like something lead us to their stones, and then to this video!

I grew up in Brunswick. As teenagers we'd go here in groups. The mausoleum looks way more run down now. Sure is a creepy place.😱

I lived on Collins Avenue. My Graat Grandmother is buried there. When we were kids in the 70's my mom would pack a picnic and we would walk to the cemetery and to my great grandmother's grave. We would eat or sandwich while my mom used scissors cut away the dead grass from the headstone. My brother and his best friend found the caretaker collapsed. They ran home on their bikes and the police went. They said he had a heart attack and died. It was always known...you don't go there at night...ever. it was such a beautiful place but even as a child, i could feel it wasn't "right".

The cemetery belongs to the Town of Brunswick, not the City of Troy. The Town Historian usually does a tour of it in October, but not this year because of COVID-19. The Brunswick Historical Society has an exhibit about Forest Park. They'd welcome new memberships or donations, I'm sure - historical societies are typically volunteer-run and depend a lot on visits and special events for their budget, and the pandemic's really hurt that.
