You'll learn about Japanese phonetics, such as pronunciation, rhythm, pitch accent, intonation and so on. Those knowledge will help you sound natural when speaking Japanese.
Hi, everyone,
Today, we'll learn the pitch of verbs including conjugated ones.
Verbs can be divided into 2 groups by their pitch.
1. Heiban verbs
2. Verbs with an accent on the second last letter
The patterns of the pitch of conjugated verbs are the same in the same group.
If you didn't know how verbs conjugate, this video is for you.
• Learn Japanese Verb Co...
The group for verb conjugation and the group for the verb pitch aren't the same. Don't mix them up. They are two different things.
0:00 Introduction
1:05 The Pitch of Heiban Verbs
2:25 The Pitch of the Verbs with an Accent
4:48 Heiban Verb Conjugation
5:49 Conjugation with an Accented Verbs
Japanese is a pitch accent language, so please try to imitate the pitch when you practice speaking!
That will help you sound more natural. This channel deals with the Kanto(Tokyo) dialect, which is also standard Japanese and used in most textbooks and national broadcasts.

Man this is such a great video. It's so nice that teaching pitch accent is becoming common. This video was well paced with no fluff, multiple examples with native speech, and clear visuals. Pitch accent is very approachable now.

Thank you for this. When I lived in China back in 2015 I was told I must take care with using pitch while there. A year after I arrived in Japan but wasn't really aware of the importance of pitch here, so thank you for your series of videos, they're helping me in daily interactions. I wonder which verb Kuro likes the best...

The Chinese tone is much more important in conveying the meaning than the Japanese pitch, but, yes, pitch is important in speaking Japanese 😁 I guess Kuro loves the word “to hunt” and “to eat” ...🤔 Thank you for your comment!!

I found it was confusing to differentiate pitch accent until I found this. I like how u compared the different pitch accents at the same time. That really helped me in differentiating the pitch accents.

文のアクセントについて、作りたいと思っていました。動詞の組み合わせというのは、とびはねる、とか、やってみる、とかそういう動詞が組み合わさった動詞(複合動詞)のことでしょうか? すぐにはできないかもしれませんが、いずれ作りますね! コメント、ありがとうござました😊

I swear, I'm gonna get to a point where I'd introduce myself with such an amazing level of pitch accent that no one would be able to tell I wasn't a native... until I say my next sentence when they realize my vocabulary and sentence structure are about as good as a 2 year old's. Like, I understand the differences between the T sounds between English and Japanese, I feel Very confident in my R sounds, and am pretty good at picking up different pronunciations of ん, but I can't understand most basic sentences, what the hell is wrong with me?
