To give credit to the creators of this song, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" is a show tune written by American composer Jerome Kern and lyricist Otto Harbach for the 1933 Broadway musical “Roberta,” 25 years before the Platters recorded it. Originally sung on Broadway by Tamara Drasin, and recorded by Paul Whiteman in 1934 and sung by Irene Dunne in the 1935 film adaptation of the same show.

The song “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes” predates The Platters by 25 years. This song was written for the 1933 Broadway musical “Roberta” with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Otto Harbach. It was first performed by Tamara Drasin in the original Broadway production. You can hear Ms Drasin sing the original Broadway version here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a5aBgpynvJ_NhaM.html

I speak as a person over 70 years of age when I offer this observation, so please don't think I am judging younger people; I am just in my own way reacting to their reactions : You seem to have been deprived of exposure to some wonderful characteristics of "old" music. The sounds of your own short lifetimes thus far have been so monotonous, so artificially created and very over-produced. The singers and performers, even the songs, have been edited to within an inch of their lives, maybe in search of some unreachable perfection. It has resulted in a kind of non-musicial music. So you must believe me when I say that to see your reactions, consisting of wonder, appreciation, even joy - makes me happy as well! I would ask only one favor of you, that is to really listen first. Then, after hearing some portion you enjoyed, maybe you would like to hear it again later. Sometimes it is only when experiencing more than once, that you get in touch with the real magic in a piece of music. So much great music is waiting for you to open your ears and enjoy! Many thanks!

If you think 6:35-6:38 and the last note's crazy, then you need to listen to Georges Guétary hit that high note at the end of "I'll Build a Stairway to Paradise" from one of the greatest musicals that was ever made, *An American in Paris* starring Gene Kelly directed by Vincente Minnelli (Liza Minnelli's dad & Judy Garland's former husband)! BBBYpsi...I agree that much of what these two say is VERY hard to understand because of their thick accent (Britsh of some sort?) and you are right that they should not keep interrupting the song so much...maybe once would be OK but they should leave their comments mostly to the end.

@@npkrn6764 Understood! I know exactly how you feel when I watch some of the other 'reactioners.' I've come across a few who don't even watch the video but constantly look at themselves in the camera or mirror. Some of those ppl care more 'bout fixin' their hair or playin' with jewelry than to actually pay attention to the video before them. At least with these brothers, they actually pay attention to what they're watching and do comment with what they're seeing (which further support their attentiveness). I know they can 'over kill' with the pauses, but once you've been burned a time or two by receiving strikes on copyrighted material (despite having the disclaimer that these reactions are done under the fair use act)...you'd be shy too 'bout goin' over the minimum viewing time before having to break. Some other reactioners that are startin' out & have small number of followers don't yet know 'bout the strike rule & YT just allow them to stockpile the videos before hitting them with strikes (or shutting down the channel altogether). I've loss quite a few reactioners over this. So I learned to accept many reactioners are doin' this for income as well. Once they monetized the videos, not only do the reactioners pause the videos a lot, but the videos are constantly interrupted by ads (some we can skip while others, not). I used to have a favorite reactioner whom I followed for nearly a year & recently had to stop watching them 'cos I literally sat through 8 ads over the course of his 10 minute song reaction. In fact, there will be a lot of reactioners with big subs/followers who will be shutting down their channels by Jan 1 due to the Coppa rule involving children. And the brothers here may be one such channel that'll shut down sadly here on YT. Many have established other channels on other platforms so do watch-out where they'll be going. Have a very Happy New Years to ya if I don't run into ya again!
