North Slope quickly became one of my favorite trail systems in the PNW, shoot, the world. Direct fire road climbs so that you can get straight down to business on some of the best descents around. Today we check out Scoby and Down N Rowdy.
Tell me your thoughts and where to ride next in the comments below!

If I could ride North Slope from now until forever, that would be just fine with me.

Thanks for the great video! Some suggestions if you come down to Oregon: Black Rock, Alsea Falls, O'Leary Epic (backcountry), and most of the trails in Oakridge.

Note from the trail organization regarding trail status as of March 2023: Sweet video and glad you enjoy the place. We currently have the upper section of DNR closed due to it recently being rebuilt and lots of recent snow that has turned it into slop. [Additionally] the Eastern trails are closed M-F and will be for a couple months due to active logging. Come hang out with us on the 3rd Saturday of every month and give a little back…get free food…hang out with some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

Being from Colorado I've noticed there isn't a whole lot emphasis on quality climbing trails here in the PNW. This was never the case back in CO. Your climb, although obviously different than going downhill, had its own gamut of technical moves, challenges and fun sections to experience and made the whole ride so much more enjoyable. Any thoughts on why that's not really the case out here? Is it that the dirt wouldn't hold up to climbing on those more wet days? Thats what I'm thinking! Also any suggestions on an often solo rider who doesn't find much enjoyment slugging up a fire service road and no option to shuttle!

Fully understand where you’re coming from, I too appreciate a techy and lung busting climb. Can’t say I know the history behind the reasoning… I’d guess the fire roads already existed and people preferred to build new downhill trail vs uphill (though I recognize the fire roads likely already existed in CO too). I’ve also noticed that shuttle culture is real in the PNW and the majority don’t seem to want to work for their black and double black trails lol. That said, there is a singletrack climbing trail adjacent to Down N Rowdy in this video. And it is very nice. At the time of filming I hadn’t taken it, but I since have and it’s great. But if you really want some singletrack climbing, I’d recommend Tiger Mountain. It has a designated climbing trail. Quite tame with just a couple of light tech spots, but serene beauty throughout. And of course some incredible descents just like North Slope. I’ll have a video from tiger coming out in the near future. Additionally, Galbraith in Bellingham has loads of trails and plenty to choose from for getting up the mountain, singletrack or fire roads.

I live in Oregon and find good tech climbing hard to come by. However, I've successfully found some good rooty and rocky technical climbing a little off the beaten path. You have to do some digging but they're out there. In general, east of the Cascades tends to have more tech climbing in my experience.

When was this video made? I see that FOCF reached out about the closure. There was caution tape originally put up to block upper DnR. Not sure why it is not there in your video.

Hey man, I love your videos and I am thinking of also buying myself a Canyon Torque. Are there any bike parks in the European Alps you would recommend, I am looking for a good mtb season this year. Thanks for the great vids.
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide Жыл бұрын
Thanks and awesome! Highly recommend the Torque, especially for park riding. Loads of resorts in the alps, too many to list really 😅 it’s best to determine the specific area you plan to visit and decide from there. You basically can’t go wrong anywhere though. For France, Morzine/Chatel/Les Gets are all connected with SO many trails. Plus Alpe d’Huez. For Switzerland I’ve only ridden Zermatt, excellent trails but doesn’t feel like a bike park. EWS also visits Crans Montana (which is near-ish to Morzine). For Italy, Paganella, Livigno, and Pila are all some crowd favorites! Val di Fassa is also fantastic and home of Tutti Frutti, one of the most beautiful trails I’ve ever ridden

U still happy with the torque? Pivots all good or any other issues over the time? Thangs for answering
@GlobalTrailGuide
@GlobalTrailGuide Жыл бұрын
Yup! Still going strong! Pivots are solid even after a good amount of mud and abuse. Only problem has been with the lower frame bolt occasionally coming loose despite retorquing. Only other problem was the Shimano rear hub axle blew itself to bits. Poor design, still a cup and cone system when it should be a sealed cartridge like all the other mtb hubs

How is the climbing on the Torque al 5

Climbing is all about the legs 🦵 it’s comparable with other bikes of this category - they all climb well nowadays . But it’s never going to be an XC bike up the hill

@@timsprick7170 Canyon recommends a medium for less than 180cm. However, I understand personal preference is a factor - check the reach of your current bike and compare with the reach of the Torque in M or L
