In Let’s Go, dialogue with Blue makes it clear that their universe’s Red and Blue had a much different journey that we’ve never experienced. Blue said the Pokédex hadn’t been invented yet and that he and Red had to use notebooks and pens to log their findings. I’m pretty sure he didn’t mention Team Rocket either.

I always thought the thing with the Red Gyarados was a report about the event happening in the Lake of Rage, not something that also happened in Sinnoh. Another interesting thing with the timeline(s) is in Grimsley's design notes for Sun and Moon(which aren't on his Bulbapedia page but are around on the internet at large). The top-right notes that this is "Grimsley (two years later)" and since he's still in the Elite Four in BW2, it can sort of be assumed that SM/USUM are two years after B2W2(or its equivalent in the other timeline).

There's a thing called LW (longwave) which are wavelengths that can travel thousands of miles, fixing your problem with Jotho and Sinnoh.

There is a possibility that Z-Moves are in the classic timeline's universe and that Dynamax is in the Mega timeline because even though there's no mention of those mechanics in the other universes, that doesn't mean that it can't be a thing in those timelines, unlike Mega Evolution.

When Matsumiya says that ORAS takes place at the same time as FRLG, I'm pretty sure he actually meant the OG Ruby, Sapphire and (especially) Emerald. As in FRLG there's a whole side-quest to allow connectivity between games, and FRLG and Emerald will actually have unique stylized sprites for Red, Leaf, Brendan and May if you connect each other. (In reality all of the remakes get retconned to take place in the same time period as the generation they are being remade to make connectivity between games "diegetic") Seeing how the tweet was made before the launch of ORAS (and a likely reason why it got deleted) is that the concept of the multiverse hadn't been introduced until the additional Delta Episode. So ORAS takes place in an alternative continuity with Megas, why Wally hasn't aged in Sun and Moon as those games might be closer to XY's events than FRLG now (and the copy-pasted Battle Maison + an origin story for Kalos' Mr. Bonding in Hoenn). From there they just dropped the idea of a consistent timeline as they realized that since Pokémon it's majorly aimed towards children, and most of them might have never played any of those older games so why bother.

What about the villain win timelines? I mean we know they exist since rainbow team rocket exists. Maybe Giovanni in USUM is from the timeline where there was red and blue protagonist or no let’s go protagonist to stop him and so his plan to catch mewtwo with the master ball and take over Kanto worked. This claim could also be backed up by the fact that mega evolution exists in the lets go games and Giovanni has a mega mewtwo. Also, maybe in the mega timeline (XY ORAS and the sun and moon games) have the canon Kanto adventure be the let’s go games since one of the captains in USUM appears in the let’s go games. Not only that but red is never said in USUM to have defeated team rocket, only become champion along with blue (or green if you’re Japanese)

A bit late but there is more evidence for the timeline placements. X & Y happen after Platinum (gen 4) based which the Looker post game of X & Y. An artbook says Grimsley is 2 years older in Sun & Moon than in Black 2 & White 2. Many say gen 3 remakes take place same time as gen 6 due to Scyamore being contacted about Megas in it I believe. This is backed up by Wally not looking different in Sun & Moon. The Anabel in gen 7 games is highly suggested to be the one from Emerald who got into the Sun & Moon timeline 10 years prior. (So OG gen 3 and gen 7 have a 10 year gap at the minimum.) Mina from Sun & Moon appear in Let's Go and an artbook says she's 13-15 years old. Mina can't be 20 or older since she's a captain and captains can't be that old according to gen 7 so that means Let's Go happens at most 7 years before gen 7. As for Sword & Shield, Type:Null is in it showing the events prior to Sun & Moon happened but that's not enough to give it a definitive timeline placement.

I'd like to think that the special editions are my head canon (Yellow, Crystal, etc) and that's because I've only played it and here's why: They usually add something new to the history as you said in the Emerald part (Team Magma/Aqua interacting with each other) or Eusine? (The guy from Crystal) or even Cyrus (in Platinum) adding a little backstory to him and Giratina's part in the game. One thing I noticed writing this is for example, evolutions added in Gen 4 but not present in the regional Pokedex of D/P. For example Glaceon and Leafeon. You can have eevee after beating the game but in platinum they gift it to you. That means that somehow eevee doesn't exist in D/P timeline despite having evolutions "discovered" In Sinnoh but in platinum does? What do you think?

IIRC, BW has a reference to Team Galactic's disbandment, and there's a couple living in the same house as the Rocket grunt in the other set of Gen V games who confirm having being a part of Teams Magma and Aqua, further solidifying the Unova games' placement in the timeline. Mina shows up as a kid in the Let's Go games and she's a teen in the Alola games, so that confirms that LGPE take place before SM/USUM.

I remember seeing the video from MandJTV about the timeline of Red (the trainer) specifically, and honestly this video just reconfirms that how the wrote Red across all the games makes things a lot messier than they might have been otherwise. Let's Go is egregious with this unfortunately because of how inconsistent it is with a lot of the other games, I try to think of Let's Go as its own pocket timeline/universe because so much of what happens there does not line up with the main timeline(s)

i like to think that each version of games is an alternate dimention of sorts, so basically ever since R\B\Y there has been 3 different timelines(so 3 different Reds can exist), mostly because even if they have the same history, they have different pokemon sometimes without explanation to why they are there. But then came OR\AS that made a new timeline with the mega\origin forms, and like was in this video not all Reds that appear are the same, in the Let's Go timeline he didn't defeat Team Rocket, so there are subtle hints here and there to the timeline of events, just got to be creative sometimes to see them, and keep in mind that it's not just the plot or certain details like different pokemons that can make for a whole different universe, sometimes tiny little details counts too.

(Disclaimer, I know the events I'm talking about are different Timelines, but I believe it's safe to assume similar events happen in both, due to characters like Grimsley from B2W2 appearing in the Sun and Moon games, as well as Let's Go mentioning Ethan/Lyra indirectly in a vision from Sabrina. So when I talk about the events of FRLG in relation to Let's Go or ORAS, I mostly just mean a version of those events that are similar enough to call out.) So I have a problem with RSE/ORAS taking place at the same time as FRLG. In HGSS (which is 100% confirmed to be 3 Years after FRLG), Steven Stone shows up in the Post Game and says he's the Champion of Hoenn. But if RSE/ORAS take place at the same time as FRLG, May/Brendan should already be Champion. I think it's more likely RSE/ORAS takes place after HGSS. But still has to take place before B2W2 due to an Aqua and Magma Grunt appearing married with a kid in that game. Since ORAS seems to take place Semi-Close to XY, which are said to take place simultaneously with B2W2, ORAS takes place during BW or in-between BW and B2W2? Also, unrelated, but Let's Go is confirmed to be 2 years before HGSS since Sabrina mentions having a vision of a Trainer challenging her in 2 years time, and in HGSS she tells the player that she had a vision of you arriving to challenge her, meaning Let's Go is 1 Year after FRLG. I think it's possible that in this Timeline, Red either never defeated Team Rocket, or he traveled Universes to reach the Let's Go Universe. We also know that in Let's Go, Blue mentions that Professor Oak didn't have a finished Pokedex when he went on his journey, and had Blue (and maybe Red?) scribble down information and Locations on a Map. So we know that at least in the world of Let's Go, Blue's journey was different in that regard.

You made it so much more complex than it needs to be. We already know that alternate dimensions exist. The Delta episode in ORAS confirmed that. As such, you can combine the yellow, altered, and classic timelines, with the justification being slight variations between the worlds and larger butterfly effects. Let's go varies so differently from the other games in most ways, so it could justifiably be a different timeline as well, especially if they ever make lets go pichu and cleffa or something for Johto. You can slot it into the mega timeline if you want though, I just think it fits better as a smaller, more contained timeline.

I’ve actually wondered about the timeline myself. Things can get complicated though as we can consider each game or copy of the game as a parallel universe on its own.

I honestly think Let's Go is it's own timeline. Blue is a recurring character during the events of the story, and is stated to have once been champion, before Red took the title, just like before. However, Blue never mentions having fought Team Rocket. His and Red's journey also took place BEFORE the invention of the Pokédex, seeing as Blue says he had to write down entries on paper, and habitats on a map. As well, both Red AND Green (Leaf, as some would call her in FRLG) appear. In the timeline with FRLG, it's pretty explicit that Red is the canon gender option for Kanto, meaning that in the Let's Go universe Red, Blue, AND Green all started their journey's at the same time. That combined with Red's drastically different team tell me that Let's Go is it's own timeline.

I definitely agree with the tweet’s timeline whether there’s Megas or not, and it makes sense for it since they later say Red and Blue in Alola are 10 yrs older than they were during their journey back in the Kanto games, whether it’s the OGs or FRLG. Also there’s potentially 3 or 4 solid timelines as of SWSH. The tweet’s timeline works for both the Classic and Mega timelines, even by using the respective Sister or Remake games in place of the OG games. ORAS does work in the same spot as the RSE, and a version XY without Megas could also happen along the events of BW2. So for both Classic and Mega timelines you have something like - FRLG=ORAS, 2yrs> HGSS=DPPt, 3yrs> BW, 2yrs, BW2=XY, 3yrs> USUM. As told by Zinnia in ORAS, Implied by Lysandre in XY, and later shown with Anabel in Gen 7, these timelines have interacted with eachother, how a decision made in one, never happened in the other one, like A-Z’s weapon, and how Anabel traveled through an Ultra Wormhole from Emerald and landing in the Mega line. However, these interactions between timelines do contradict the stated timeline since Anabel was about the same age as she was in Emerald, but later is seen older in Gen7, showing progression of time in that order. Z-moves could happen in both since it’s an Alolan creation outside of Mega Stones, and were made using crystals from Necrozma. Zmoves are more prominent in the Alola region due to the Tapus, unless someone uses it outside of Alola which should be possible, if the Tapus deem it so lol. The Let’s Go version of events do create a 3rd timeline were Megas do exists, however Elaine or Chase do now take the place of Red or Leaf. The OG Kanto characters here have already done their travels, but the events are the same as in Red and Blue or Yellow, and FRLG. I’d say there’s similar events across the Let’s go Timeline where May, Ethan, Dawn and the rest of the protagonists do exist, but they have an alternate journey, and we’d be introduced to new characters that take their place from their OG games. The events of SWSH, by this logic could happen across all timelines, but when is the question. It could also be a start of a new timeline, even if Megas and/or Zmoves return.

I don't think that Oras and sun and moon are in the same universe as let’s go, basically because of the design of red and blue in sun and moon, in those game they look more like red and blue from pokemon fire red and leaf green and the design of red and blue from let’s go are more like they in the manga or the original games (pokemon red and blue).

I like Bird Keeper Tobies version of the timelines whereby each game version is its own timeline based on region exclusives. E.g. red and silver have the same region exclusives and blue and gold have the same sk they are their own timeline.

The creation of the mega stones happend hundreds of years ago, so black and white having no megas must be just the fact that the developers did not created this feature yet, a good explanation could be that unova pokemon do not mega evolve and red may not have gone to khalos yet si he did not had a mega stone when he was in the Unova turnement, mega stones are really rare so they may only exist close to khalos and are just being exported.

Mega evolution is a new and rare phenomenon in the game. Not many people know about it. Most people in the game calling it an orb. Not even the professor knows much about it. So hence X and Y would make sense later in the timeline.

I think there was something in Pokémon Black/White that referenced Platinum specifically (as opposed to a reference that could apply to Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum) when you talk to Cynthia. I _think_ it might have been a reference to Giratina? In which case, it’s unlikely that Diamond and Pearl take place in the same timeline as Black and White. You can get it in Diamond and Pearl, but Cynthia only canonically sees it in Platinum (as Giratina is completely optional in Diamond and Pearl). Unless you want to say that the player character canonically caught a completely optional Pokémon and used it in a rematch (seeing as how Turnback Cave isn’t available until post-game in those games) against Cynthia, who found a Pokémon (completely arbitrarily as far as she would be concerned in that timeline) notable enough to learn its name and bring it up who-knows-how-long later. Sorry to make your timeline situation even hairier.

CLASSIC TIMELINE I just assume all of the combination games serve as one timeline, where Fire Red & Leaf Green and Black & White were supposed to have combination games (Thunder Yellow, Gray, Gray 2). I then just assume that there is only one continuation of this timeline possible: • Combination games of the next gens *(X & Y > Z, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon > Ultra Dawn, Sword & Shield > Knight)* without megas, Z-moves, or any of the gimmicks occured, which we will never experience. (Unless they're gimmicks from completely newly discovered regions, or from regions so small and isolated that they would be very rare to see in other regions... like maybe Z-moves) MEGA TIMELINE Pretty much all you said about the Mega Timeline. These are all of the actual Gen 6+ games, but you have to assume that there are unreleased combination games we will never play WHEN TIMELINES CROSS It's well known that Annabel from USUM is originally from Pokemon Emerald's Battle Frontier and was sucked into an ultra wormhole into the Mega Timeline. CONCLUSION So, my head cannon or whatever is that there are only two timelines - one with battle gimmicks and one without. SIDE NOTE If you wanna get super dumb, you could also make tons of alternate timelines with the split games and whatnot. The games were originally made as split games, as stated by Satoshi, to be completely separate worlds so players would have unique experiences. He originally wanted like 100+ versions in Gen 1 but scaled it back to just the two we got. So, yeah. COLLOSEUM GAMES I can only assume they're in some alternate dimension altogether since it's pretty dystopian. Or perhaps the far future of the Classic Dimension. Trading across time is canonically a thing in Gen 2, so, yeah.

I'm not certain a "true timeline" can be constructed, rather just a loose order of events. The issue really boils down to the multitude of versions which, at the very least, take place in subtly different timelines. I can't break down all the differences between _Ruby, Sapphire,_ and _Emerald_ as it's been over a decade since I played them on GBA, but even though the story might follow similar beats, events unfold differently. Similarly, while I didn't play _Sun_ or _Moon_ it's my understanding that _Ultra Sun_ and _Ultra Moon_ aren't sequels in the way _Black 2_ and _White 2_ were, and are instead more akin to _Platinum_ but with far more changes to the story, while still largely telling the same story. At least that's my understanding, but that's as a mild fan of the concept of the series. I think what this means is that you'd probably have a minimum of four timelines due to _Red, Green, Blue,_ and _Yellow_ with the rest of the series falling somewhere in there, but never occurring in the same timeline as one of it's counterparts. _Gold, Silver,_ and _Crystal_ would likely occur in one of the existing timelines with a giant ??? being left in the remaining slot. From a practical standpoint though, it's kind of a pointless endeavor as there's no particularly cannon entry to the series in this regard, it's not even fair to have the remakes supersede the originals, as they once again make changes to everything, sometimes in ways that don't make chronological sense. Best to think of all the entries as "what if" scenarios taking place in a loosely defined order.

So, quick question, why is Mega Evolution considered something that can only be in a separate timeline? That makes no sense to me. Mega Evolution, as far as I'm aware, has always existed in the Pokemon universe. Also, LGPE are directly after Red/Green or Firered/Leafgreen, as Sabrina states after you beat her, something similar to "I won't encounter another like you in about 3 years" alluding to Gold/Silver or Heartgold Soulsilver. At least, that's what I understand.

Why can't it be possible that Megas exist in the old games but they just weren't used by standard trainers in those areas

Warning spoiler if you haven't played well any pokemon game the answer is Celibi now originally in crystal I think it is there's an event with celibi but only accessed through a phone it was a bunch of complicated steps that no one knew about you can do it on the new digital versions alot easier and on heart gold and soul silver now in an event you can travel back in time with celibi now depending on the rules of time travel that pokemon is following can explain everything so you go back in time make a small change butterfly effect it causes a shift in timeline making one set of games bassically be erased by a new universe the mega universe or it splits off and creates a new timeline, also possible since you can catch celibi post game in events not seen your character is travelling through time because just wants to see stuff and the butterfly effect is causing changes or their intentially going back in time and changing things for some odd reason, maybe they gained a form of immortality and their bored or something. either way the answer is Celibi and a butterfly effect from time travelling.

I think the protagonist from Lets Go is the same one from US/UM. In Lets Go you get an autograph from Lt Surge that you also find in your room in US/UM with the exact same writing and graphic. We also know the protagonist comes in US/UM comes from Kanto

We really don't know how old Mina really is except that Captains are around their 10s. At least they start when they're like 11 (as Sophocles states he's 11). How we can really prove is her parents. Luckily, we do get see them and her father appears to use the Gentleman sprite. I assume Gentlemen and Madames are like at least in their 60s. Unsure about the sprite used for Mina's mother as we don't see her sprites as trainers. Maybe like in 50s? The average rate to give birth is in between probably your late 20s to mid-40s? Hyde also has his father, Mustard, in his 60s. Unsure which age set Hyde's mother, Honey is. Hyde doesn't even look like he's in his late 10s-late 20s or 30s. He looks like he's about 5-8? Was he adopted?

My theory of the pokemon timeline Red and blue---->gold and silver=diamond and pearl--------> black and white------> black2 and white2=sword and shield= z and y ------> ruby and sapphire-------> sun and moon. The great thing about this timeline is that it works in both the mega and classic timeline.

I rather think we should separate Sword/Shield from any timelines if additional evolution mechanism decides which timeline the game will fit in. Classic: RBY or FRLG/RSE -> GSC or HGSS/DPP -> BW ->B2W2 Mega: Let's Go/ORAS -> XY/(possible DP remake, hopefully) -> SM/USUM Dynamax: SwordShield -> (possible new games)

Sword and shield is in ultra sun and ultra moon timeline because of type null according to bulbapedia there are 3 type null 1 is with gladion 1 is with you 1 is in galar

the Alola games have mega evolutions, although they're not available to the player until the postgame

I think sun and moon is it’s own timeline and ultra sun and moon are in the mega timeline

It's actually rather simple, all the main game series (with FR/LG and HG/SS replacing the originals) are part of one universe and ORAS and USUM as well as Let's GO are alternate "What if" timelines. Not that diffucult.
