I think Ninja Peach in Showtime might be a good Which Ninja, kind of. Her being an accurate ninja is probably a forgone conclusion, but instead of a direct comparison to historical ninja, you could compare her to real world theatrical depictions of ninja. That might be interesting to discuss.

One thing I noticed but held my tongue back with the Ogerpon video (and something I'm not sure if anyone else notice) is, design wise, Ogerpon is also some sort of Japanese coat rack based on her body shape and how her inner legs are flat and flushes together perfectly. New discoverery in an old topic are like a open world map in a video game (especially with some recent releases). You may think that you scoured the map a hundred times, and yet there's still a chance of stumbling into something undiscovered.
@ZombieBarioth
@ZombieBarioth 2 ай бұрын
Kinda reminds me of that old gag where a coat on a rack would look like a monster. She also looks like a pumpkin-headed scarecrow. I could be a mix of both seeing as typically old well-worn clothes would be used to make them, and a coat rack would make for a perfect body. Maybe the mask is what brought them to life, Frosty the snowman style.

Yay, another Pokémon Yokai connections video. Makes me wonder though when/if we will see Ninja Peach on Which Ninja? And what about WAY EARLY animated depictions of Yokai? I am speaking of short films from the 1920s, including one where an old woodcutter comes upon a circle of tengu in the forest and ultimately wins their favor?

If it wasn't for the steel type I'd call this a big stretch. Especially the porcupine connections. I've never seen Sandslash as anything other than a pangolin with a _slight_ anime twist. I'm half convinced the concept for the form came first. They were looking at the oldest Pokémon to make them interesting again - especially how they could give them new and unexpected new typings with a palette swap. "What if instead of rock-like scales Sandslash had ones made from ice?" That would have turned this pure Ground type into either a pure Ice or dual Ice/Ground type. But then someone noticed the design reminded them a bit of a metal grater and they remembered the yokai - which they used as an argument to give it Steel as a secondary typing. Gen8 had a serious lack of Steel types after all. Outside of Legendaries and Ultra Beasts, the only ones are the Pika-clone and two evo lines of the regional variants...

It's funny; I named my Alolan Sandslash in my Sun team "Yuki", simply for it being a name meaning "snow". Funny that I just so happened to give her a Japanese name. I also didn't realize her quills were made of metal and *coated* with ice. I was kinda button-mashing through Sun a lot just bc... you know. Everything takes forever in the game. But I'm happy to know a bit more about her origins now. Also, I wonder if this explains why Alolan Sandshrew can learn Leech Life via TM in SM, but Kantonian Sandshrew cannot. Maybe it has to do with the behavior of the Yama-Oroshi?
