ABOUT BECKET:
Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory
School of Dallas. After graduating from Austin College in Texas, Becket moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually went on to become a production designer working with the top photographers and directors in the world on fashion shoots for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and for ad campaigns such as Gap, L'Oréal Paris, and Nike.
Finding a new sense of freedom in L.A., Becket also fully engaged in his new life as a gay man. He had a series of many relationships with men throughout the next fifteen years.
In September of 2009, Becket met a stranger at a coffee shop in Silver Lake who invited him to his church in Hollywood called Reality L.A. Becket reluctantly agreed to attend the service. After hearing the sermon that Sunday, Becket was utterly transformed by the gospel and gave his life to Christ. He also knew on that day when God revealed Himself to him that homosexuality was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket was more than happy to count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord.
Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences helping believers (and non-believers) understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally, and personally. Balancing grace and truth when teaching on this subject is of primary importance. His goal is to challenge the current cultural narrative about sexuality in general and homosexuality in particular by demonstrating through his personal testimony and biblical truths that, yes, homosexuality is still a sin, and that following Christ is infinitely more satisfying and joyous.
He has lived all over the world in major cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of Arts in Theology.
Becket’s book, A Change of Affection: A Gay Man’s Incredible Story of Redemption, with a
foreword by Francis Chan, published by Thomas Nelson, released July 30, 2019.

yes mr.cook! i am a 17 year old girl and sadly i fell into the trap, i thought my worth was found in how much skin i showed. By His grace, He found me when i was 15 and showed me how He is worth more than boys and how my body is meant to glorify Him and Him alone. There is hope for young girls and boys and that is in Christ alone. Thank Jesus!

They were working. MTV raised me. I had no clue who I was. Became so sexualized and promiscuous. It’s heartbreaking all the lies and deception I experienced. The new wave of girls transitioning or considering themselves as asexual IS the current worldly pushback against the pornification of women. And this pushback comes with hurt and rage against the way things have progressed since the Kardashians rose to fame. I completely understand that pain, and I pray for the young girls who don’t have a biblical role model in their life to steer them to the truth-that Jesus loves them and values them, as women, as beautiful, but not in a perverted way.
@rissroo4325
@rissroo4325 2 жыл бұрын
Girls transitioning has probably more to do with rigid gender roles. If you show any hint of perceived masculinity (aka tomboys) oh well you’re a boy or you’re gay. Not comfortable in your body (which is very common for girls during puberty), well you’re a boy or you’re gay.

You’re promised freedom, self-love, confidence, absolutely none of it is true. Living this way will only bring you pain and emptiness. I am and have been a counselor since 1985, and I work primarily with teens and young adults . This is a very important topic. Becket is exactly right : social media is Satan’s masterpiece . One of the things I routinely recommend is girls stay off of social media , it breeds dissatisfaction with self and ensnares girls into a world of objectification and self - hatred . I find they are relieved and spend the time once spent on flicking through images pursuing interests and building skills . We do knitting groups , some girls are now pursuing wood working , hiking , painting , gardening , and other hands- on, creative pursuits . Excellent topic - and Becket addresses it well.

Without the dads, often the girl doesn’t know what a real man is and so uses her sexuality to land a man because she thinks that’s how things are. For the boys, the street often is the one raising him in a barbaric tribal manner. Either way, dads were often thought of as irrelevant and this is what happens unfortunately.

This isn't just in USA. This is happening in the UK too, and probably most western countries. The problem is is that people don't realise just how sexual these pictures are, they don't see the faults. It's also causing men to see women more as sexual objects rather than people, which is ironic as the feminism movement often promotes these pornographic images, yet these images often increases the sexual objectification of women.

You’ve had your time, now is the time to relax and be valued as guidance councillors, and imparting wisdom to the next generations of young ladies, mothers, on how to live wholesome lives. The best influence and role model you can be for girls and young ladies is to share conservative values and pass on skills such as cooking, sewing, fine arts, gardening, playing instruments, raising a wholesome family etc etc…all the fun stuff. Sitting in front of the mirror being self obsessed and picking at invisible pimples, gets pretty boring after a while. Too much time on your hands and no real life purpose makes you depressed. Empty, self annihilation. The deception is that perversion is sexual liberation. In reality the devil is pulling the wool over your eyes. It’s the opposite of liberation, it’s bondage. Which is why bondage and submission, slave, master and all kinds of kinks is now becoming the norm. Girls having porn addiction that starting at age 8 is now on the rise, soon becoming the norm. Sad.

Adult novelty shops started popping up in regular towns, but instead of being places where you'd want to hide your face, women started shopping at them for bachelorette parties and toys. Billie Eilish appeared on Howard Stern earlier this week to talk about how destructive porn has been to her mind, but ironically it was Howard Stern who had a lot to do with the pornification of girls in the '90s. He made it seem normal to flash and walk around naked for attention and free t-shirts. Then came the disgusting Girls Gone Wild phenomenon. All of this is nothing new, it's just a lot easier to do now with Instagram and OnlyFans, not to mention all the instant likes and dopamine hits. And now women my age have teenage daughters and no clue how to mother them properly. I have a friend at work who poses in suggestive pictures with her daughter and posts them to Facebook. I've seen FATHERS post their daughters' senior portraits where the girls' butts are popped out and we're supposed to think it's cute. And these are so-called church people. There is no more sweetness and innocence in being a young lady. Girls have been brainwashed for decades now to be sexy and nothing else. And I thought feminism was supposed to stop the objectification of women. What a sick culture we have created.

20 years ago, my eyes were opened to this disturbing trend. We then decided to homeschool for two main reasons (and loads of additional reasons): 1. I did not trust most adults in charge of children (pedophiles choose schools and churches for a reason). 2. I did not want my daughter to become obsessed with or dismayed with herself or be objectified. Our kids are grown. They are confident, caring, and generally happy people who have chosen to follow Jesus as independent adults. I thank God that neither was touched inappropriately by anyone. Our daughter is a fashion design major, yet has never dieted nor been especially drawn to "sexualized" styles. I consider the homeschooling experiment successful for many reasons, but those two mattered a lot to me. I love that my fashionable daughter doesn't even know what she weighs and is the same person in heels and dramatic dresses as she is with no makeup and sweatshirts. I wish I could say the same for myself at her age. Many of my friends' daughters seem traumatized by their school experiences with boys, peer pressure, and mean girls. It's a shark tank.

What most American Christians don't get is that as the world gets worse you should be getting more and more distant from it. It's not enough to be "Not as bad as the rest of the world." Being a Christian doesn't mean just being 10 years behind the times. They're living like atheists and pagans - just getting there slightly slower.

I'm reminded of a line from the movie-'The African Queen'-starring Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn, in which Ms. Hepburn played a Christian missionary. In one scene, she says to the Humphrey Bogart character: "Mr. Olcott, nature is what we're put in this world to overcome." Perhaps one of the last times someone in Hollywood told the God's honest truth in public and didn't lose their job over it! What a great opening line for your segment this week, Becket! This started in the 1990s. my girls were young, and I saw all the clothing for girls for tweens at that time were essentially what prostitutes wore, which carried into the 2000s when they were teens. We preached modesty, and our worth is found in Christ. One daughter walked away from the Lord (Long story, but the short of it is she got spiritually abused in church), and my other daughter follows the Lord, and dresses modestly, out of choice. I often said, "if you dress like a prostitute, look like a prostitute, and act like a prostitute, you will BE TREATED LIKE A PROSTITUTE." This also makes it easier for human trafficking for sex, because the girls are advertising themselves as for sale (yet, I know that is NOT what they intended).

@jerrynkathy

Your entry caught my attention. Here are some thoughts: The modesty Paul was calling for was not about covering exposed flesh but modesty in terms of not signally personal wealth in the form of rich apparel and excessive adornment. (No self respecting woman in ancient times would show their body off dressing in a barely covered fashion.) This understanding of the passage has been replaced by pleas and warnings not to show off features of the female physique through skin tight clothing and/or the lack of it (the new definition of modesty) out of necessity although this is diminshing too. I sympathize with Christian women who don't want dress that way. It doesn't seem like the garment industry offers much of an alternative. I think there is something else at play going on here. Is it my imagination or do I sense that a lot of women (Christian women included) are so competitve and starved for attention that they feel they have to dress this way (raunchy) to attract a mate? As a man, I can't answer that question, only ask. So much I can say here. Sorry that I have to be so terse. Each sentence could easily be several paragraphs or pages long. So sorry about your daughter's abuse in church, Karen. How ironic. The local church should be a place to escape from this kind of treatment. It seems "church hurt" is unavoidable. My wife and I went through spiritual abuse too and it was horrible. It opened our eyes to the really bad theology we had exposed our family to for 25+ years. We made the decision to walk away from it. It took years to deprogram from it. The Lord has done a healing work through loving people who have walked in our shoes before. We were too well grounded in Christ to walk away but, to a degree, I understand why some people abandon the faith. Christians are expert at inflicting pain.

@@jerrynkathy Great post, from beginning to end! As a senior citizen, I'd add that the pressure on women to look a certain way- alluring and attractive, goes back a long way. Technology and social media has just made it more in-your-face. In the 60's when I was in high school, the idea was to be stick thin like the model Twiggy and wear hot pants and. mini skirts. Advertisers hit us where our vulnerabilities are, number one being our appearance, especially when we're teenagers. Women are sold a bill of goods on what is beautiful. It creates a lot of crazy thinking. I don't think dressing provocatively is necessarily to attract a man, but more a result of a poor image of oneself and lack of self-esteem. BTW, historically it was men promoting these fantasy images in advertising and movies/TV.

I remember wanting to be like these popular girls, have sexy photos and date all the handsome guys (used to think it was about time we girls did what boys always got away with doing) and of course this was a ridiculous and stupid mistake. If only i knew how regret would hurt even though I’ve been adopted into God’s family and enjoy peace with my Heavenly Father, my Saviour and the precious Holy Spirit who comforts me every time. It’s just one of those things - we may well do what we want but are we prepared for the consequences? I think not. We’d save so much heartache if only we’d listened to godly people from a young age. That being sad, I consider that having sinned much I now love much because I know how much my God has forgiven me though I would still have preferred loving much without having sinned so much… Praise God for ambassadors like you, Becket. Literally just a month ago I was driving Uber, I absent mindly had some minors get into my car, not realizing they were minors until we were too far from their house to turn around. I figured it would be safer to just drop them off where they were going than try to take them back home and have them get upset and start an altercation in which they try call them police or deny giving me their home address (because uber keeps the pick up address a secret)… so I take them and realize the drop off spot is a wooded area… I was like umm girls where am I dropping you off, they proceeded to tell me that they were going to a party in the woods, and they and others do it all the time. I dropped them off because I figured I’ll just call the police and have them crash the party and take care of it. So they get out, one was dressed in shorts so short her whole bum was hanging out. They walked off into the woods at night to party with other highschoolers. They were younger than juniors because they were talking about a junior guy who sent nude pics to one of them! So I called the cops, cops never came to meet me after waiting an hour and a half, I drove back around and saw multiple groups of them coming out of the woods all dressed in clubbing clothes, all taking random Uber’s as minors! Just ubering wherever, minors do it ALL THE TIME! I drove back to the area I picked them up and tried to find the house they came out of because I wanted to tell their parents and I couldn’t place the house because I wasn’t paying attention when they got in. But did end up finding the house a week or so ago because I dropped someone off nearby and realized yes that’s the house, the whole neighborhood has private school signs and Christian private school signs in their lawns. The girls I dropped off even said they loved the station I was playing KSBJ (Houston’s Christian channel). These were Christian children, taking Uber’s at 9 to 11pm, unaccompanied, unaccounted for, going into the woods dressed like club hoes to party with classmates. The cops ended up calling me back hours later and told me they knew they were back there! That these kids do it all the time! But that they drove back there and didn’t find anyone but they did know they were taking Uber’s to and from to get to the location. This world is so vile and evil… it’s just tainting innocent children. Children who think they have to have sex appeal at 12/15/18!! It’s so heartbreaking. I used to think the same way… and it’s an even greater shame that these so called “Christian” parents give their children debit cards or access to their debit cards, that they go to sleep not even knowing where there children are!! If their young daughters are asleep in bed or out taking Uber’s across Houston! Another time I picked up three girls from a shopping center way out in the suburbs, I thought they were young students just off of a shift but then as they talked I quickly realized they were young minors in high school! It was 1 AM!!!!! There was no way I wasn’t going to get them home safe, they could have been abducted or assaulted by some sicko uber driver. I dropped all three girls off at various locations, the last one was alone by herself with me, and I just thought where are your parents. You could get hurt doing this. I also found out it WAS A SCHOOL NIGHT! HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILD IS ON A SCHOOL NIGHT?! How absent and neglectful can you be? How deluded can you be to allow such insane freedom for young high school girls?! It was sickening.

Just recently, for example, I felt God tell me to stop going to workout classes which involve weightlifting. It was really hard for me to let go of and so that's when I realized that I was started to attach too much importance to looking fit. Even though I try to dress as modestly as I can, doing weightlifting was still causing me to become immodest in my heart and so I believe that's one of the reasons God told me to step back from it. I've been dressing modestly for years now but having a modest heart is still something I am working on to this day.

I, too, have witnessed this development over the past ten years. I'm working as a mental health professional with teenage girls and try to lead by example (modest clothing, little to no make up) and remind them how very precious they are just the way they are. At the end of the day they just want to be loved and feel accepted. Thanks for pointing this out, Becket 🙏♥️

First verse that popped in my mind when I watched this👇 "Noone can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money." -Matt 6:24 Anything, ANY THING, you place as higher than God, is idol worship. If you use it to gain prestige, followers, value, to avoid emotions such as sadness, anxiety, fear, boredom, it's an idol. Only God can fill you up. All else will lead to ruin, eventually.🇨🇦♥️

Another good topic. It makes me so sad to see how far we've all fallen, but especially women. I mean, the fact that so many women today are aborting their precious babies and a homemaker is ridiculed and looked down upon. The most valuable God given gifts to have and raise children and make a home and family. I remember when I first started seeing sexualized pics of pregnancy. Pregnancy is beautiful, but to reveal your half naked body for the world to see, just doesn't seem appropriate to me. Take them for yourself and and your husband perhaps. It's just so sacred in my eyes. What is decency these days? I'm not sure.

I have to disagree with some points on the video. This trend of pornificating young women started with sexual revolution. Throughout the 90s, the entertainment industry sold the idea that women are liberated by being sexuality explicit. Anything showing modestly is seen as oppressive. I do agree that us women should find our identity in Christ not culture.

I just read: "If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin." I guess it is going to take a special kind of discernment to know what is darkness & what is light when the culture is constantly putting out skin in full display 😢 I'll add that a couple of my friends recently posted the 'hot firemen' calendars & I'm not even wanting to look at those. It feels like a cheapening & objectification of people--- real dear people. And a young Christian man I follow on twitter is praying for a godly & faithful girl to come along & be his wife. I wonder how hard it is to find someone like that today, and I pray for him. ...Thanks, Becket

“In all our ways acknowledge Him and He shall make straight our paths.” To sell yourself for a like is so tempting because women just want to feel beautiful but in the end it leaves you feeling empty and cheap, and so the cycle continues. You are so right Becket” there are only two choices, the Spirit or the flesh, there is no other choice”. I have been sick with autoimmune disease for 15 years and I see that as a type of mercy because that is the path I would have been on, doing anything for the attention and love I didn’t get from my earthly father. The more I more I see the trap that women are falling for today the more I am thankful for how close the Lord has kept me using this illness which sounds so weird to say but it’s true.

You know it keeps on getting worst. if people aren't corrected especially if they want to always look so good and draw attention which christians should not. Do not let your adornment be merely outward arranging of the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible,even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. 1 Peter 3:3-4NKJV. I know Becket was trying to qualify his center of subject matter saying that well I really haven't seen it that much in males but it's happening. it's out there. Just ask the people that do brazilian waxing. They'll tell you they're getting more men clients. The next step is of course alteration of the body through plastic surgery and other cosmetic procedures way too young in life and even debatable amongst older people CHRISTIANS who are supposed to age gracefully. Reconstruction surgery is meant for damaged areas from injury, disease, and severe defects perhaps.

This was a very accurate video, but there is one extra point I'd like to glue on. The impact that this pornification is having on young people does not stop with young women objectifying themselves online. This has a ripple effect. It's causing young men to expect that out of all their potential female partners (this goes hand in hand with the porn pandemic). It's causing the young women that *aren't* posting these images to nonetheless feel incredibly insecure and inadequate - even if they aren't pornifying themselves, their ideas of worth as a woman are still wrapped up in the larger mainstream culture of sex'd up women. To all the young men out there who are staying true to God, have faith that there *are* real, quality women out there. It is not an endless sea of thots, even if that's how it might sometimes feel. To all the young women out there who are staying true to God, have faith that there are good men who will truly value you for *who you are* and not for how little clothes you pose in on Instagram.

I made sure my elder one attended a course on dealing with social media, and the consequences for later times, with college admissions and future work. Neither of them want to wear skirts, because of how short they have become. My younger one is practically a town boy. She won’t get caught dead in a short skirt. Totally agree. Modesty is something that I have felt deeply convicted of during my walk with Jesus. I think a big problem is the culture, but also the fact that Christian girls are simply told “don’t wear x, y, z because it’s ‘inappropriate’”. The whole idea of something being inappropriate is so subjective and I think it’s SO important that Christian leaders communicate what scripture says. It goes so far beyond simply being “inappropriate”. The main idea is that our bodies and how they look is honestly irrelevant as Christians. The purpose of our bodies is to be a temple of the Holy Spirit. I don’t feel that as a young Christian girl I was taught these values and so when I was just told it was “inappropriate” I just took it as negative judgment and didn’t listen. I was constantly being complimented at school on my body and that’s where I put a LARGE amount of my self worth because I thought that’s where it was found. I wore skimpy clothes because I knew I’d get compliments and therefore feel validated. Simple as that. So thankful that Jesus has shattered those lies! I now know my identity is that I’m a daughter of God!

Such a good word. I often think of how heartbroken god must be watching all these girls just putting what’s meant for their husbands, out for everyone to see. Not only that, but making it so their only value comes from only how they look/appear, and having such low standards for themselves. God has been showing me over the last couple years how to see me how he sees me. Once I could see that my whole perspective changed on how I present myself and how I want others to see me. So glad this is being addressed! When i was young-even dress up clothes were modest--one would never seek to expose body parts--unless you were a 'lady of the evening'! Things started changing in the 70's--legs were in--mini skirts and long legs--with boots--also boobs were in-- The 'burn your bra' crowd chanted that we had to be free-go braless!There was a boutique type magazine that came to our house-called 'Fredericks of Hollywood'--the clothing could only be described as something a prostitute would wear! Certainly not for real girls! and yet these many years later, these are the typical clothes and looks the Kardashians wear!! --and many other unfotunates who are 'famous for nothing' but their bodies! Worse-they set a standard up that impressionable young girls can never meet--looking like basically a playboy centerfold! and for what purpose?? Well to attract men of course! So men also were and are taught that this 'pornification' of women is normal and natural and they should be attracted to basically 'body parts' of a women before ever even knowing her soul and spirit-so both sexes are denigrated! We do need to become aware that dressing modestly is a godly thing and seek to Honor God in this way. Dont follow the fashions of this world girls! Follow God and His ways!! The closer y follow God and his ways, the more you will recognize how the devil himself wants you-as a christian girl-to dress like the world--showing off your sexuality! So-- my prayer is that y see thru this darkness--it is not beautiful for you to walk around with skin tight clothes displaying every body part like you are just a piece of meat for sale! Imagine standing before Jesus in this get-up!! What would he say? Break out of satans mold-be uniquely you--guard your heart and mind and dress modestly! Thanks for listening...

Great points, thank you. I see this as a part of how Narcissism has polluted our culture. The Narcissist commodifies others for their own consumption, and with enough conditioning, children and young adults will fall in step, as it gives them rewards of feeling acceptable and that they belong (a love substitute). The Narcissist is driven by the dysfunctional attitude of entitlement and is addicted to the rewards of their behaviour (Lundy Bancroft). Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton and Madonna are probably all Narcissists (judging by the aggregate of their behaviours across time), so making money from themselves as sexualised commodities is par for the course. It's an easy way to get attention and emotional responses, which is the Narcissist's lifeblood, as per self-aware Narcissist sociopath HG Tudor. My mother, her father, & my sister are Narcissists, & their effect on me has deepened my perspective on this subject. When I was a child, I found the stories of Jesus interactions with women in the Bible to be compelling. I saw those women treated with dignity and respect, and the women felt safe with Jesus. This resonated with my little heart and mind, even though I couldn't articulate it until many years later. Children and young adults are very vulnerable. Few there are who have adults who love and protect them, and can mentor them as they need.

Beckett, Just hearing about some of the Billy Eilish comments regarding pornography. Please do a show regarding all of her comments ASAP. In fact, it’s such a huge problem that I think this is a series that you need to address from a new perspective, new author, new researcher, or new ministry from time to time, addressing how it hurts both males & females, children & families. I really think you could do a great service with a playlist of shows like that. It makes so much sense why Billy Eilish has had such body issues & used to cover her entire body in large shapeless clothes; she was trying to protect herself from perversion & sexual harassment. I think this pontification is also why there’s a several thousand % increase in the number of girls who seek out care to become trans men; they’re just trying to do the only thing they know how to do to stop the molestation &/sexual harassment from continuing. I’m allegedly in middle age I guess & I am still scared from several instances that happened to me & my friends or just me alone of boys or even grown, middle-aged men saying explicit things about my body or demanding I perform a sex acts on them & if you tell them to stop or leave you alone, even if you do it very nicely, you’re met with nasty name calling or threats of violence. In one particular, a group of us were 11-12 & were catcalled by a group of workmen who would’ve been in their 30s & 40s who demanded sex acts from us, but we were too young & innocent to even know what they were. I just imagine it must be thousands of times worse for girls today. They’re sitting in class with boys who are literally watching explicit, violent, hardcore porn & flashing the phone images at them & demanding those acts. Our girls & boys deserve a safer, healthier culture that the manure yard we’ve left them.

Anyway it was so sad to see the pornification of my girls. It started with miley cyrus and britney spears and it was so sad. My oldest is now in a relationship with Jesus! Yay! So She's in the process of sanctification and I love it. But my sweet youngest is still I would say in danger except for my blood covenant of rescue of my children. But you are exactly right.
