Porsche always gets crap for the 911 never really changing, just evolving. Porsche engineers have pretty much perfected this car because of that. It's an incredible achievement. Kudos to Porsche for making this. Hopefully one day I can own one.

This is obviously the best car right now, but the lightweight package doesn't make much sense to me. The normal Turbo S is fast enough but comfier, and the GT3 is lighter and more track focused.

Porsche is the ultimate manufacturer that understands how to optimize and create the MOST efficient engineered products. If you think about it, this is Bugatti Veyron 16.4 fast but more daily friendly.

10 dB is a lot more than double the sound, sound energy doubles every 3 dB so 10dB louder is more than 8 times the sound energy in the cabin. That's huge, that's the difference between an S class and a WRX.

As a factory tech I can say I don’t see these in the shop for many big issues. Our sports cars are actually our most reliable platforms because we control the R&D on them from start to finish, and know people intend on keeping them for a long time. I actually prefer the feel of the 991.2 better but haven’t driven the lightweight package 992 yet.

Heard the 992 gt3s have been suffering from a lot of terrible “mercedes quality” defects. Shit like blowing engines after only 1000km.

@@greaser3069 Haven't had any in the shop for that issue yet, but those are a small quantity car. Most customer's drive those pretty hard, so I do see allot more repairs on those, just because of the kind of abuse gt3s go through, not necessarily quality issues. They might also not be doing the 1000 mi brake in period required for that engine before putting it to track use.

Love my 991.2 and it was simple to get it to nearly 700hp (if that's your thing). With a Kline 7670 it's nearly OEM quiet around town and howls when I kick in the turbos.

I purchased a Carrera T, which is at the lower end of the spectrum. I’ve owned RX7’s and some fast Mustangs, but this Porsche is a whole other level of perfection. It does everything so well, and even for a “base” motor it is very strong and more than enough to have fun in the Canyons. I know a Turbo S or GT3 is faster, but those cars cost 2x or even more the cost of a T. I’m sure they don’t provide 2x the fun. Get into a base 991.2 Carrera with a manual and you’ll have a fantastic time, and it’s a much more obtainable goal in life for those of us clawing up from the bottom.

@@JordanPayneLV the new turbo motors have amazing performance, the low end torque is intense but tuned to be manageable. There is nothing like putting the power down with a 911 coming out of a turn, you just use all of the power possible to accelerate. Yes, the sound is different, yes I prefer the wail of a GT3 too, but I’ve also always loved turbos on my cars (from my past cars: RX7 turbo rotaries are the jam, and a turbo V8 is how you win races). The newer turbo motors sound cool to me, and the overall experience is exciting. Keep saving and when you can trade up to the newer car. In the mean time, your current Cayman is a beautiful car with handling dynamics that serve as a benchmark to all others, living with it for a bit longer isn’t the worst thing in life 😊

God I loved this, thanks for taking us on the drive with you! I will never own one, because I'm a softer GT Cruiser kinda guy, but I'm always in awe of Porsche's performance. I normally can't stand the vacuum cleaner / wind turbine sound of the 911, but this one sounded very NICE! Was there an exhaust change for this Lightweight edition? Great review!

One of my dream cars is this exact Porsche 911 Turbos S in yellow, because I think this color looks stunning with the bright and shiny appearance. I love the brutal launch control that gives this car a 0-60 time in the low two second range, because if I had this, I would probably take it to drag races all the time.

Nose lift is certainly not necessary on this car, it just adds weight. That is the beauty of the active aero and the retractable front splitter, this car has excellent front clearance with the splitter retracted, which is much better than other 992 with fixed factory splitters. I've had my turbo with the S-PASM lowered suspension for a year and have not scrapped a single time.

Great video Matt. I haven’t driven the lightweight but i have reviewed the 992 Turbo and Turbo S and they were unbelievably fast. I few 0-60 runs made me nauseous. Like you said I couldn’t really tell the difference between the Turbo and Turbo S. Not that I can afford one but the play may me to get the Turbo and tine it. Of course as car enthusiasts we would always take the lightest car if money was no object

Probably the fastest car money can buy down a road like that. I can't really think of anything else that would be quicker in terms of the combination of straight line speed, braking, handling and being able to actually put its power down in any conditions.

+10 db is significantly louder and reduces usability a lot, so I'd pass on the lightweight package. If I wanted a 911 as a weekend car I'd get a GT3 instead.

I had the same thoughts. But try finding a GT3 or an allocation to order one. 1-2 year waiting list and average dealer markup of $100K. So last August I ordered the next best thing, a 911 Turbo S (TTS) and optioned it as close to a GT3 as I could, and got it with the Light Weight Pkg (LWP) just like the 911 in this video. Skipped on the frills that add weight. Waited 8 months for it and paid MSRP which is actually a great deal since currently TTS usually have a $20K markup now.

Porsche literally engineers all of their models to perfection for their intended purpose and nobody else even comes close. Pick any Porsche and try to find an objective fault that another manufacturer does better. You can’t. The only subjective fault I could think of is Porsche’s can be a little too serious or teutonic.

Just curious - how does is Matt’s license still in one piece? I mean, he’s obviously doubling (AT LEAST) the posted speed limit, the road is not shut down for his runs and it wouldn’t take anything really to time the distance between landmarks/corners to gauge his speed. I’m not the speed police, I’m not saying he should get hemmed up by “the man” & I know that he makes his runs when the roads are least populated, etc. - I’m just honestly curious as to how he manages to get away with planting his foot to the floor review after review after review. ❗️ ❗️ ❗️ ❗️ 🚙💨 . . . . . 🚓💨 🚓💨 🚓💨 🚓💨

Utterly amazing car and good review as always Matt. Just curious why the inside shot in the car appears to show the older version of PCM? I have a MY2022 992 as well (just a lowly Carrera) that was built over the '21 holidays and arrived in the US in March 22. It has PCM 6.0 while this appears to be the previous version, was this car built prior I guess?

Man, you are definitely a singular car reviewer!! Also, you have such a terrific ability to describe the machine and sensations wonderfully well!! Congrats for your job and contribution to the car enthusiastic world. However, (always there is an "however"...hahahaha) my friend, frankly I miss out something in your testimonies: Comparations! You already have the opportunity to drive cars in the same spectrum, in this case, 911 T + AM Vantage + MB AMG GTx + R8 and etc. Maybe use percentages to express your comparations, like: This 911 992 T S does yourselves feel 30% faster than the AM Vantage. Or: This 991 992 T S is around 50% less comfortable than AM Vantage bla bla bla. Do you know what I am saying? And please please please, don't get me wrong!! This is just a humble suggestion!! And again, CONGRATULATIONS for you Channel!!!

I love how half the comments are Tesla haters trying to compare this to a plaid saying this is better. Just goes to show how amazing the Tesla’s are. Porsche boys got Tesla living in their heads rent free. I’d hope Porsche could make a 911 quicker then the model s(a four door sedan) 🤣. Wait till the new roadster comes out for 200k(same price as this Porsche). The Porsche is gonna be so far behind it won’t even be able to see tail lights 🤣

Matt compared these two, because the 911 is quicker than the Pleb with half the hp...Porscheowners don't care about Teslas. Porsche is a Rolex, Tesla just a cheap Swatch, why would they care. Plus Americans can't build cars to this day, don't think that will ever change.

Surely not many people buying the Turbo S will go for a lightweight package? What's the point? They're so fast and you can remap it and go faster than just a lightweight package but you'd maintain all the usability

Per my dealer - the wait list is already 3 years long, so a lot of people are interested, mostly buyers who didn't get a GT2RS allocation and want the absolute fastest Porsche they can buy. They already have Cayennes, other 911s, and Macans for daily duties. This seems like a good package for the kind of Porsche owner who wants a sports car, but never tracks their car. A GT3 is kind of a waste if you never track it, and this is definitely the most extreme road focused Porsche of the bunch.

I am ordering the factory 992 TTS with seats, lightweight glass, glass roof . The only thing I am changing are wheels to HRE 527 FMR and Techart adjustable springs.

Unfortunately this insane level of performance is just unusable here in the US. You’ll be in jail if you try to use it. A base 992 is all you need, or get an S if you want a manual. If you want a track car get a GT3. The Turbo S looks good at the country club and cars and coffee but it is overkill.

Right you are! Even with base 911s from 20 YEARS ago, 95% of drivers (who will never track their cars) cannot exploit their true potential on public roads without getting tossed in jail, much less modern 911s. The huge hp of the TT is for cars and coffee bragging rights, nothing more.

"Lowest factory horsepower car in the 9's" Yeah, when you report your wheel horsepower as the factory rating for crank horsepower, flexes like this come a bit easier don't they PORSCHE. (All kidding aside, I actually like that they do that. Really points a finger towards those who exaggerate their rated power figures)

Actually when strapped to a proper dyno like a MAHA that is the standard in Germany you find out that they make pretty much exactly rated crank power. The US tuners generally aren't equipped with the type of dyno that would give an accurate overall measurement. They're mostly useful for before/after comparisons. It's also absolutely imperative that there are no correction factors applied to a modern turbo engine run because the ECU is already compensating to have rated power in all conditions.

Porsche doesn't overrate their hp numbers, they are mostly on point actually. Bmw overrates their hp like no one else tho lol. Porsche simply has the best engineering in the world.

I've said this before, but the 911 is a ringer in certain metrics. Look at where the engine is located in a dragster. That weight way out back over the primary drive wheels means it doesn't have to wait for weight transfer before it can hook up. And in braking, the rear end can take on a greater percentage of the work because of the rear weight bias. That's not to say Porsche hasn't defied the laws of physics in turning the widow-maker sports car into a tame daily that simultaneously makes its drivers into track heroes. But AWD + PDK + twin turbos + rear engine + 315 section rear tires is a recipe for rapid launches.

If I win the lottery, this is my first purchase, period. Turbo S Lightweight (without carbon buckets though, reasoning below) , Paint to Sample in either Irish Green (my only dilemma, picking between paints), Stone Grey Metallic, or Cognac Metallic (leaning heavily on the last two match the interior) with the Heritage Design Classic Cognac with Pepita centers, 911 Exclusive Design wheels with pockets in black(the Fuchs lookalike wheels, but would be nice to snag a set of the Sports Classic Fuchs, don't know if I'd rather have the Sports Classic over the Turbo S, hard choice lol, I guess if I won, both). Such a perfect car. I wish they made the Turbo S in a manual, they have the Sports Classic in manual only, but it's only available in RWD only, only other feasible option would be to go with the GTS, but then you can't order those wheels I like, and everything gets blacked out(and you're down on power from the Turbo S, even moreso if you drop down to the Carrera 4S.....geez!!!!! I haven't even played the lottery yet, let alone even won!! 😭😭🤣🤣🤣

10 DB louder is a lot. FYI, volume doubles every 3DB, so for example 63DB is double 60DB, 66DB is doouble 63DB, 69DB is double 66DB, its exponential, not linear. so yes, 10DB is a LOT louder.
