In this TEDx talk, Elizabeth Judith, Courage Coach and creator of The Loving Discipline Method, explores the toxic love-hate relationship many of us have with self-discipline. Self-discipline is a powerful tool for achieving success, but it can be a source of stress and shame if not managed properly. Developing a healthy relationship with self-discipline is essential to our well-being. By embracing discipline as an expression of self-love, we cultivate a positive relationship with the Self that enables us to live to our full potential. Follow Elizabeth on her own challenging journey as she discovers that self-discipline is the ultimate expression of self-love and the key to living a beautiful life. Elizabeth’s personal journey from wuss to watch-out-world has led to her becoming a courage coach, public speaker, actor, and the creator of the loving discipline method - a powerful, yet gentle approach to self-discipline and self-mastery. Her greatest passion is helping others cultivate the courage and loving discipline to live a beautiful life. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Currently 20 years old with similar struggles to be who I was meant to. I believe I was ashamed to growing up and now that I’m learning and finding myself again. These things have been coming up like crazy.

The message of self-love resonates so much better than self-discipline. I already feel so much calmer about reaching my goals for myself by changing my thinking about self-love vs. self-discipline.

I like your use of curious vs. shame. I'm a highly sensitive person that ended up in a police department, and assigned to an officer that toys with the emotions of HSPs. First of all, I didn't know what I was, so I didn't know how to defend myself. Secondly, he used public shaming (over the police scanner, which then, was also public) to embarrass me. He would pit me against the other cops because I'm a quiet person. (Very much an introvert.) For 30 years after the events; the humiliation I was put through haunted me, and I was only there for 4 years. He pursued me even after he got me fired, and I never stopped running. I had to leave my home state. I was so ashamed that I didn't know how to get out of the situation, but even worse, that I allowed myself to be in that situation in the first place. I discipline myself now to follow a plan, and not my emotions, but I still have to work through shame and fear. I heard about you from Kathryn Calhoun. She gave a challenge to make an offer for a program; and I failed to do that for the past 2 years even though I'm ready to market. Your talk was very nice to hear. I need to turn shame into curiosity so I can move forward.

God loves you and takes care of you so that this message reaches you. The biggest loss that any human being loses in this life is to live and die while he does not know who created him, and he is God, and he does not know the Islamic religion, the last of the heavenly religions, nor the Messenger of God, Muhammad, and he is the last of the prophets of great intelligence before you believe Something or not to believe in it is to read it, study it and understand it well, and then you can judge it. I hope that you do that before you do not have time to do that, and I wish you success from God. He is the one who controls everything. You just have to work
