Lucyy. the last point about not tellling your arguments with your partner to you friends and family is just soo true. I experienced this before, infact we had not even gotten into an official relationship and we had a big disagreement. I did not know how to handle it and I told my friends and till date they literally hate this person and see him as black as satan whereas he is not. I have tried so much to explain that he is not what they think he is but they would not budge. And fact is I never painted him as black to them. I simply only told them his view on that topic and now they literally hate him.

I have learned to close my ears or to redirect the conversation when my friends or family try to offload to me about the issues they have with partner for this exact reason. I get a bad taste in my mouth over them then the next thing I know that friend/family member is back to being happy again in their relationship because they have now sorted things out but I'm still left with the previous image of them that was painted to me and can't shake it. Now, I want to stay out of what is not mine to be in, so as much as I want to be there for my friends/family, if it is of a nature where they are relaying details to me of arguments/issues in there relationships, I literally have a "drop me out" mentality. We don't just have to be careful about what we say, we have to be careful about what we listen to also.

Agreed! Did you know that all these practices you said for living a happy life is also advised and encouraged in islam? Our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) told us that we shouldn’t share any moment which is special to us cuz of the evil eye. It’s so real. And when there’s a conflict btw a spouse you’re not supposed to gossip and tell his bad stuff. In islam both spouses are like a garment for each other. Whatever is said in the house will stay in the house. You don’t go to people and tell your private details. - so girl all what you said are etiquettes and manners in islam❤

Same here... But if I practice over and over in my head to not say anything it works... I don't no how to manufacture a lie on the spot... I had to ask my pastor how to go about it... He said to practice pause before speaking and to be intentionally slow while speaking...

Hi Tracy, Firstly, you do not own anybody any information. You can change your mind at anytime and that’s ok. This is your life You can always create new boundaries and become consistent with them. Some examples that you can say : I no longer want to discuss this situation or event. I have moved on from this situation or event, let talk about something else. Hope this help

I really enjoyed this video Lucy, thank you. I have definitely shared on points 2 - 5 in the past and had it go left real quick so I whole heartedly resonate with this video and am working on ensuring that going forwards I am not just more private, but also more "selective" over who I share what with. It's ok to share, but know "who" it is that you are sharing with. Everyone is not entitled to these details of your life just because they are in your life. And likewise, if you're sharing is coming from a place of bragging, then take accountability that you were after some kind of attention in that moment. It's not that we don't deserve attention, but just keep it real with yourself and ask yourself why you feel you need the attention/validation from others. And sometimes it's not even that, sometimes you just want to share your good news with others simply because you're happy and THAT'S OK. Stay blessed, stay learning, stay growing x

Your thoughts helped me come to terms with my late teen early adult years. The saying loose lips sink ships is exactly what I did to some people. Sometimes there is no restitution. These people are not in my life--too much time has passed-- but even saying I am sorry cannot undo the destruction. I never saw this when I was young but I see it now.
