The tragedy of his life and the Golden Path are an emotional gut punch - sacrificing his humanity to steer the human down said Path, how his hybrid nature meant that he couldn’t make physical contact with people due to the fatal nature of water to sandworms. If Children of Dune and God Emperor of Dune are ever adapted, it would be great to see said transform

God Emperor is my favorite book in the series and my favorite character. But, I also really love Siona and her rebellious nature when it comes to his politics and philosophy. Long live The Golden Path, a promised lesson humanities bones would remember!

I've never been more envious over something fictional as I am for Leto's Ixian Cadillac whip. That bad bitch has style.

The most important aspect was that he instilled a pearl of awareness into the sand trout, so they would be able to terraform other planets in the future and not be confined to Arakis. As it was said that sand worms were transported to other planets, but failed to thrive. Only once the Leto II was killed and the sand trout came away from his body were they able to start the cycle anew on Dune, some 3.5k years after they went extinct.

His story is absolutely heart breaking and tragic, so complex and rich. Almost beyond comprehension, I love this universe. The lore and stories are so deep and speak to humanity in a way that is unlike any other. Frank Herbert was an absolute genius.

Great Video Elaine! Leto and the Golden Path are one of my favorite story lines in the series. I always wondered if Leto saw the Honored Maters or the face dancers who chaced thrm back into the old enpire after the scattering. He did create thr Fish Speakers who with reverend mothers in the scattering became the Honored maters.

Hopefully we get a God Emperor film this one of my favorite stories in the series.

I feel that the overall message of Dune is even more poignant today than it was when Herbert wrote it. It may be the most subversive story in history, and with with the way the world is shaping up, that's a good thing. The message of how bad a universal distillation of tyrannical power would be NEEDS to get out. The wisdom must flow!

It's important to point out that Leto was gravely aware of the trap of precience. "A universe of surprises," as he put it, was his goal. He didn't use his ability in the same way Paul did, locking in on a particular future. Leto only glimpsed ahead at the nexus where the Golden Path rested on a fulcrum to ensure the GP succeeded. He knew he needed to die near water, but he never desired to know the specifics of his death. This is something I think many people misunderstand about GEoD when they assume Leto had planned everything out. He hadn't. His decision to change the Peregrination route was "a whim," but it was really because he sensed the GP begin to falter with the introduction of Hwi Noree.

I think it was naïve of Leto to think that he could oppress people to the point where they made sure never to let themselves be ruled or oppressed again. History shows that oppressed people often become worse oppressors themselves once they gain freedom and power. Even in the Dune-iverse (see what I did there), the Honoured Matres were a result of his Golden Path/scattering and they were the worst oppressors the universe had ever seen.

On the one hand, I pity him. He was born Human, but was not allowed to live a healthy Human life. Such is the cost of enormous power couple with an unnaturally long life. Such a life can become wearying after a century or two. He most likely welcomed death when it finally came. I know I would have. The only thing I can see that sustained him for so long was not greed or ego, but his dedication to his mission, dedication fueled by LOVE for Humanity. So perhaps LOVE is indeed the most powerful force in the universe. In his case the expression of that love for him became quite complex, and exacted a hefty toll. Great video.

I like how his tight control of the Spice. Made people develop new ways of interstellar travel; that didn't rely on Spice. Which further weakened the tight control of the Spacing Guild and the other Guilds. Those Guilds would horde knowledge and prevent invention of new technology.

The God Emperor committed suicide after falling in love. The cost of his lost humanity became too much.

I hate prescience seeing the future or at least one version of it, do you give in to its inevitability or do you take it as a warning of things to come and possibly something to avoid? Paul fell into the trap that everything he saw had to come to pass and that is why you should never know the future making decision on something that hasn't happened yet is insane. Besides the original DUNE, this is the one book of the series I've read the most, at least 5 times, maybe more over the years. During the last reading, I'd read ONE chapter, put the book down, and think about it. There are some enormous depths to this book!!!

There are two Mars Attacks! novels, one is called Martian Deathtrap, and is the..... sillier of the two, lol! The Martians all have inside-joke easter egg-type of names, one of them is named Qwisats Hadrack🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The curse of prescience, the blessing of the (illusion of) free will. Imagine the dread and boredom of knowing the future and still having to act in accordance to the least horrendous options.

Seeing that the book series is not completed, we still haven't seen his end game. What does making humanity spread out through the galaxy while not being able to see a person's future do for them? Also, who is the old couple Duncan was terrified off? To many questions, not enough answers about Leto's path.

6:14 is the interpretation I like the best and is always how I imagined him in the book.

Almost 70% through this book. I try to read the series about every 2 years or so. God Emperor is my second favorite one. Looking forward to finishing it and the rest of the books. I love how he almost ends up being as human as he was before his skin was not his own.

God Emperor is one of the best books ever. Not just one of the best sci-fi

So I look at this guy's story and this immediately comes to mind. "BULL CRAP" You're telling me that the only way humanity could survive was for Leto to be an absolute tyrant?! That there was no other way for people to survive indefinitely? He could literally see the future! Every timeline! He could literally see all of the pitfalls that humanity would encounter and THIS was the only way? He couldn't forewarn people about certain disasters that could have long lasting consequences? Or encourage new technology that might help solve these problems? This story I'm sorry to say isn't just sad, it's bleak. It says that the only way humanity as a whole could survive would be to go through prolonged suffering under what was essentially Worm Hitler. That numerous generations would have to live their entire lives under a bleak shadow until some one finally took "that slimy piece of worm-ridden filth" out? And yet some how, some way instead of humanity's overall spirit being broken under such rule, it all turns out okay eventually. That despite living under such a terrible yoke, humanity rose up and spread out into the stars. Again, I call utter Bull on this. When you expose people to nothing but tyranny and oppression, it's all they'll ever know! When you cut them off from any form of a fair and compassionate government for numerous generations, they won't know anything else. We see such an example in Animal Farm, when the animals liberated themselves from their oppressive ruler in the end it turns out, they had trouble recognizing what a GOOD ruler was suppose to be. It's why so often when revolutions occur people will always revert back to the old system.

I think that Leto the God Emperor was more powerful than we know. There are things in the following book which hint at it.
