I love how you begin with clothing and exposure risks. As a firefighter, we see hundreds of cases of heat exhaustion, cramps, and stroke each year- often in weather in the 70's. One of my favorite quotes: Alfred Wainwright - 'There's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.'

Now put the loaded small pack into the 40L pack and you have an extra pack if you need to expand with gear from say a hidden cache. Wear small load pack in front and 40L pack on back if losing additional gear.

A really good application for this is small and lightweight duffle bags. Two of them. 8 or 10 pound each loaded Max. Carry one in each hand, drop as/if needed. Pick back up. Non critical gear only. I have two jansports in my car just for this. Tiny essential pack, extra in my fists. You can even toss them over fences etc

One idea for when you can't avoid going by airplane and thus having no blade on you: Right after arrival and picking up your luggage, go to the nearest shop that sells SAK's, bite the bullet and spend 25-35 bucks for the "Camper" or "Huntsman" SAK. You would have a small, capable and not to forget brand spanking new SAK with sharp blades, a saw and of course the usual other assortment of tools. Wouldn't brake the bank either. If you wanted to keep it, just mail it back home before boarding the flight back. Or, if you can afford to lose the money, gift it to someone who might appreciate it.

Out here in the desert you're going to need to carry waaaay more water than that. Being able to filter or boil it isn't much use if you can't find any in the wild, and often you can't. You'll have to pack what you need, and it's going to be heavy. You also are going to have a hard time finding anything to hang a hammock from. Maybe you could find a mesquite tree or an ironwood or palo verde, but probably not 2 of them close enough together to help you. And trying to suspend it from cacti is a bad idea!
@FueltheFires
@FueltheFires 23 күн бұрын
Agreed 100%.. My default is the ground and the hammock is specific to the southeast… And yes, if I was in a desert environment I would have to tailor it to those needs- such as more water

But the weight is 15lbs not including what's on them. The girls are spending winter with us, doing some survival challenges. Less snakes in winter. They'll be duplicating scenarios from On3. Now you've got your pack on, when is the next survival challenge vid.? We'll try to Fuel the Fire in the meantime. Cheers cobber from Australia.

Glad you mentioned the Collapsible bag. I just started looking at them a few years ago. I have a Rick Steves carry on travel pack. It has Collapsible features similar to the black pack you are displaying. The basic idea and build on his pack is based on leisure and tourist travel. The downside is it's not heavy duty enough for a bugout situation. I'm an old guy so traveling light is the only way I can travel on foot or airplane. If it can't fit in the smaller pack it doesn't go. I have traveled overseas several times with this type pack and it's great. The same philosophy can be applied to a bugout. Thanks for showing us your bugout out kit, very cool toys. Do you have links for the equipment you discussed?
@FueltheFires
