Château de Purnon: Reawakening a French château

What a week! We prepare to open Purnon to visitors as part of the Journées européennes du patrimoine, receive an invitation from the French President and after two years of restoration work the first levels of scaffolding come down to reveal the restored eastern pavilion!

Having the French President acknowledge you Chateau will definitely get your renovation more attention, and hopefully donations to continue on into the future.

@ChateaudePurnon *_ Hi, what I find quite ironic is that in so many restoration projects all around France, most of them are done by 'Non-French' persons, for example, "Escape to Rural France" and "Bordeaux Life" to name a few. It begs the question, are the French not interested or are they like a Greek man once said to me about his interest in the Parthenon, "Oh they're just a bunch of old stones" _* 😳😲😣

@@liongod1000 The French have been restoring and renovating their chateaux and historical houses/buildings for decades and decades. They don't have english-speaking KZfaq vlogs though and that's why you, Anglo-Saxons, think the French are not interested in their Heritage as you never make the effort of listening to another language than english. What a strange thing to say anyway about a people and a country you obviously know nothing about.

I hope you suggested to Macron to reduce the tax on Chateau owners, especially the crippling inheritance taxes. Your children won't be able to pay those taxes and will loose the Chateau then.

These chateaus cost way too much money for anyone that isn’t a multi millionaire. To completely restore this chateau the right way, I’d say the minimum cost is 20 million Dollars.

Especially when France is providing most of the funds and the craftsmen nd a lot of support. They have been selected as part of the mission Bern project under the auspices of the minister of culture a program launched by Macron which has helped thousand of historical monuments by their French owners over the years.

The workers have done a magnificent job on the roof and facade. It really looks wonderful! I love all the white roses planted around the front area. Its looking so beautiful :)))

The facade and roof on the eastern wing are spectacular. The open day looked wonderful we would love to come along next year. Is it always held in September? Had seen you flag the exhibition at Palais de L'Élysée with Pres Macron on your Instagram and was so utterly delighted for you all- and how well deserved Purnon was to be featured. just brilliant stuff! you guys just keep knocking this out of the park. The Journées du patrimoine such a success too...Not a step wrong- and just a brilliant job for this very deserving site... Next year I just must make the Journées du patrimoine!- (my schedule just always calls me back to the UK from France right before)-Can't wait for the book!- Bravo to you both!

Hi Tim, I saw you pulling nails/staples from the wall with a pair of pliers. Just a hint that I learned from pulling staples from the old floor of the bank - get yourself a pair of pincers. Instead of "pulling" them out, you grab them with the pincers and then pivot/rock using one side of the pincers as leverage, and they come out with very little effort. This method is very quick, and requires almost no effort. Best Regards, Linsey Siede

💐👏🙌👏💐such a well deserved honour to meet the President 💐👏🙌👏💐 What I don't understand is why the nearby villages don't form volunteer groups to help in the restoration of their chateau - especially when over 1000 visit to see your progress. Imagine having volunteers maintain the gardens . It's the same for all the chateau channels I watch - overseas volunteers but not locals?? 🌹You are doing a magnificent restoration - keep smiling your glorious smile and carry on❣️🌹

She did mention that many volunteers were helping get things read for the big event. Also as said in French, only qualified workers can do the artisan side of things

How wonderful that people get to actually see the astounding difference between the east and west pavilions. Even in the vlog it is impressive. I am so glad to see Purnon finally get the attention it deserves. I have particularly enjoyed viewing the artisans at work up close.
