Tarks Gauntlet

The Princess Guide takes the shell of its predecessor "Penny Punching Princess" and morphs it into something with more depth, but does it pack a heavier punch?
There's a lot to unpack with this little isometric beat-em-up, and though it can be a lot to take in at first, what lies at its core might just be a game for you!
Or not. Who am I to say?
If you want to learn more about the game, than enjoy this review!

NIS is strictly a publisher/localization team. They don't actually develop any games, nippon ichi is the developer, the same developer as disgaea and poison control

“Tends to overstay it’s welcome by making you replay too much of it to truly see it through to the end”. That was my main complaint with the game. Once I grasped how the game works, it was a lot of fun, but by the time I beat the first princess’s story, I didn’t really feel the need to keep playing.

I haven't exactly researched this game all that much but the little I did interested me, enough to preorder it anyway. Looking at more of the gameplay footage here, it looks very much like the spiritual successor to "Penny Punching Princess". Very similar style, overall gameplay, presentation, and even a couple mechanics. Considering the physical release of the Vita version of "Penny Punching Princess" is also releasing around now, which I also preordered, I guess I better space the two of them out to avoid a burn-out due to just how similar seeming they are. Shouldn't be that hard as I got like two other games releasing along-side them as well. I swear, these first 3 months have been too much in regards to game releases, both mainstream and niche alike.

Yeah, part of me kind of feels like the "princess" line of games from Nisa is a spiritual series of sorts, but they've never said it themselves as far as I know so I hesitate to say it.

I love these progression heavy RPGs, nippon ichi is know for these types of RPGs with tons of micromanaging, i love it, theres just something about leveling and grinding that is why i love RPGs in the first place, for me its the progression is what makes RPGs my favorite games to play, for me as long as i can level up and grind and the gameplay is fun thats all that matters to me

In what way does it look like a mobile game? Yeah it's using Chibi sprites but they are clearly high quality and well animated. I've never seen a mobile tat looks anywhere near this good.

So in other words, the game does seem charming enough to buy retail because it's something you'd want to pass around with others due to the charm it has. Suffering the typical standards of "gameplay that could've been better" which usually plagues the majority of non-Nintendo developers trying to make creative, unique experiences, but overlooking a lot of things when doing so. This game seems, barely, interesting enough to me where I think I want to own it. Even if it's not played too much, it'd make for a nice-looking game box on the shelf.

I was interested in this game and had it in my cart and such, but this doesn't look like my kind of thing and what could be pros seem to be bogged down to some lousy design choices you pointed out. I came realize my main draw was the character designs of the princesses and the overall aesthetic. Maybe I will find a game with this aesthetic but a bit tighter in terms of gameplay.

Hi, can u explain how did you unlock the secret campaign? I beat the game with the 4 princesses and nothing happens :c
@TarksGauntlet
@TarksGauntlet 5 жыл бұрын
So I didn't fully understand how this worked while I was playing and you're not missing out on much to be honest, I'd hesitate to refer to it as a "full campaign," or anything, but each princess has multiple endings, and I believe (Can't say for certain) that all you need is the best ending from each route, though if you're looking to platinum the game or get as many endings as possible you'll need to get all of their endings. I got a good chunk of endings while just blitzing through it over and over trying to find any new content. Each princess as far as I recall had about 3-4 endings, most of which are pretty similar to each other. The ending you get is tied to the amount of the princesses faith stat by the end of her campaign.
@ecchan9673
@ecchan9673 5 жыл бұрын
@@TarksGauntlet thank you for your answer. I did all the best endings for each princess so I don't know... Did you start a new game for the secret campaign?
@TarksGauntlet
@TarksGauntlet 5 жыл бұрын
I started the NG+ games and just blitzed my way through. I thought about creating a save at the mid-point of the game to not have to repeat the intro arcs but I didn't think it would work to unlock anything. Honestly though dude, it's kind of like the secret end of octopath traveler. It's not worth the effort and adds little to nothing to the over-all experience. If you got the good end with the princesses I'd say you're as good as done.

It's funny. Just a couple comments down we got the other perspective saying "yeah this definitely looks like a mobile game." For the record we're talking art style here. This looks nothing like octopath or ys origins to me, but it does look like a million anime spin off gotcha games.

What makes you think I'm not patient? Criticizing things for taking a bit to get into or for having non-additive repetitive gameplay sections is not an admissions of a lack of patience, it's a valuable detail in a review for those who could be concerned by that sort of thing. If I lacked patience I would have gave up.
@Baoran
@Baoran 5 жыл бұрын
@@TarksGauntlet I was just referring to what you said about the patience in the video. I am so used to grinding in games that I don't mind repeating same thing multiple times in a game.
@TarksGauntlet
@TarksGauntlet 5 жыл бұрын
It's not really a traditional grind though, it's just repeating over and over again. A good solution would have been to just let you restart the final leg of the game with a different character. Seems dumb to do so much of the game over and over when literally nothing changes for 80% of it.
