The viewing order that you are following Marie-Clare is the one that ATV Midlands screened back in 1967-68; and has `mostly` been adhered to over the years. Medusa Cascade followed the (Mainly) production order sequence which has the disadvantage of having the predominantly Portmerion shot episodes in the first few of that order. That gives a `lopsided` look to the series. Regarding how No 6 knew `audio` would be on. He knew soon as he saw the `Bust` swivel in his and the Rooks direction, correctly assuming that both the camera and microphone located inside it would be aimed at them, and changed his dialogue! This episode was one of the original Seven that he wanted as the full series. It was both ATV (UK) and CBS (USA) Television that pressured him into expanding the series to 17. He pointed out that there would bound to be `repetition` but they were adamant.

This week's number 2 is Timanov from Sarn, the Planet of Fire.

The order does matter, because when viewed in the best order (this isn't it), the episodes are grouped thematically, and there is a logical progression and character development in No. 6. Exactly the progression and development you're looking for and not finding, like whenever you say things like "But he already tried that..."

A fantastic episode in my book. Not the best, but above average for sure thanks to the guest actors and characters being well written and with the twists. The man with the stick (brown/white stripe shirt) is George Colouris. He was in the Doctor Who story "The Keys of Marinus". I find it oddly amusing and ironic that Peter Wyngarde (one of my favorite actors) plays No2. But his panache puts him alongside Mary Morris and Leo McKern as the best.

Debating which order the episodes should be watched in is a favourite sport of Prisoner fans, so don't worry about it. The only thing that's definitive is that "Arrival" goes at the beginning, and "Once Upon a Time" and "Fallout" go at the end. All the other episodes are prretty self-contained. I don't know if you're aware that Peter Wyngarde, who plays this episode's Number Two is mostly famous for playing Jason King.

Wyngarde also appeared in Who, in Planet of Fire as Timanov. The serial saw Turlough depart and Peri arrive.

The episode with the longest title includes a flashback to "Free for All", so there's a 'correct' order for watching them, too, but apart from that and the instances you mention, any order is workable.

@@jeanlafayette7152 I've been watching the series for 30 odd years, and I always use my own order which I tried to marry narrative reasons and production order where possible. Anyway my order is, using initials to avoid spoilers for episodes MC hasn't watched; Arrival, Checkmate, Free For All, Dance of the Dead, Chimes of Big Ben, Schizoid Man, IYF, Many Happy Returns, ACOM, A B and C, The General , DNFMOMD, HIA, LIH, TGWWD, OUAT, FO.

4:18 I did laugh, but because a key element of this episode is that his co-conspirators also come to believe that he's secretly working for the Village.

Amonng the aforementioned roles in this thread, Peter Wyngarde also played Klytus in the 1980 Flash Gordon (which also had Timothy Dalton, aka Rassilon in "The End of Time" and 007, and Brian Blessed, aka Yrcanos in "Trial of a Time Lord: Mindwarp" among lots of other roles). You ought to do a review on that one! Speaking of enamel pins, I have a collection of the first 7 Doctors enamel pins, probably in a box in Central Java. It used to include a Dalek, K-9, and the TARDIS, but I've lost them over time (I got them in the mid 80s).

The Rook is played by Ronald Radd, the first actor to play Hunter in Callan (a very Number 2-like role ironically). Might be a show you could review down the track.

Good to have your Prisoner reactions back, Marie-Clare! Been watching the series of late on London Live. Unfortunately they missed out two of my favourite episodes towards the end of the run. Returned o my DVDs!

An episode that raises some troubling questions for No.6 - his natural sense of self-confidence and righteous indignation at his trapped situation may have tipped over into hubris this time. It's not always just about him, there really are other genuine prisoners here and his pushy/bolshie attitude to absolutely everyone around him can cause serious problems for others as well as himself.

You're watching in UK transmission order. We know this wasn't the _intended_ order - That was confirmed at some point - but the _intended_ order was never actually stated. But, as you say, for the most part it doesn't really matter, and the final few episodes of this order are where they're intended to be.

The Prisoner should have been compulsory viewing between the end of 2019 until present day. Non compliance. We wouldn't be in the mess that we are in if we had learnt The Prisoner's values.
