The Problem with Electric Cars in 2023!

There are several problems with electric cars that are often brought up by critics, including:
Range anxiety: One of the biggest concerns with electric cars is range anxiety, which is the fear of running out of battery power before reaching the destination. While the range of electric cars has increased significantly in recent years, it can still be a concern for drivers, especially for those who need to travel long distances.
Charging infrastructure: Another issue is the availability of charging infrastructure, which is not as widespread as gasoline stations. While there are efforts to install more charging stations, it may take time for them to become as ubiquitous as gas stations.
Cost: Electric cars can be more expensive than their gasoline-powered counterparts, although the price has been decreasing over time. The upfront cost of purchasing an electric car can be a barrier for some buyers, even though they can save money in the long run due to lower fuel and maintenance costs.
Battery disposal: Electric car batteries are made up of materials that can be harmful to the environment if not disposed of properly. While efforts are being made to recycle and repurpose used batteries, it is still a concern for some.
Performance in extreme temperatures: Electric car batteries can lose efficiency in extreme temperatures, such as very hot or cold weather. This can affect the range and performance of the vehicle.
Limited models and options: Currently, there are fewer electric car models available compared to gasoline-powered cars, and there may be fewer options for things like features and customisation.
It's important to note that these issues are gradually being addressed by automakers, governments, and other stakeholders. As technology advances, electric cars are becoming more practical and affordable, and their popularity is increasing as a result.

This needs to be seen as a UK issue & not necessarily a problem every other country. EV infrastructure varies from country to country & number of non-working charging stations deoends on who is managing them.

Hi, question, which car did you enjoy the most overall, the polestar 2 or the ioniq 5 and why? Great channel

Polestar 2 feels more grown up. More solid and slightly more premium. Hyundai looks cooler, is more quirky but in a good way. If it had a gun to my head and had to choose I’d go Polestar I think.

This exactly why I would hesitate to buy a non Tesla EV. There are some really nice ones but they’re not much good if I can’t charge them. Sure I could charge at home most of the time but I can’t trust the charging network for long drives.

It’s important to remember it has taken a 100+ years to get the ICE infrastructure we have now. I doubt it will take any where near that to get ev infrastructure in place. As technology improves things will inevitably improve. Once you drive ev you know you’re driving the future. Also, if the demand is there, supply will always follow. Tesla are just very clever by building out infrastructure to support their products.

I am going to have to disagree with some of the above. I do agree that progress will be fast... but it is not fast enough for the amount of cars that the government are trying to get everyone rolling out. As of 2030 manufacturers are supposed to be selling electric cars and I can't see that in 7 years there will be enough infrastructure in place or enough energy in our grid to cater for everyones needs. Also the cost of the whole thing is only going to be passed on to the end user making electric cars inevitably very expensive to run. Unfortunately there is no such thing as a free lunch. Not to mention the effect on the environment just building them.

Your driving a ionic 5 . I love that suv. TFL Channel just did a road trip from Disney in Anaheim California to Disney in Orlando FL. Nonstop. That's a 2,500 miles. In the USA. I don't know how your infrastructure is but they did it in th US.

How long did it take them. It would take a long time in the UK to do 2500 miles.

I'm thinking that in five to ten years the secondary market will be flooded with extremely cheap ev's hat no one wants to buy would make a good cheap City car . But no one is going to be saving the planet in a $70,000 box on Wheels

I think hybrids and PHEV are the way to go to completely eliminate any range anxiety! I have a Ford Maverick hybrid that gets around 50mpg with 900-1,000km range. I cancelled my order for the Ford Lightning for exactly the same reason as you stated here. The infra just isn’t there for any type of road trip.

What needs to happen is EV manufacturers need to stop making vehicles with 500 HP and 300 miles range...300 HP and 500 miles range..start making 120 HP with 1000 miles range..160 HP with 800 miles range.. funny how the Honda civic/Nissan Sentra had 100 HP for years and people loved them ..
