Official Nintendo Switch Joy Con are still so expensive. Unfortunately, there aren't very many good after market alternatives, and WAY too many sketchy ones out there...

whenever I hear "Joycons are expensive, they're $80!" it kills me a little bit inside. here in Canada they're $113 ($100 plus 13% tax) 😮‍💨

Oof that’s rough. That’s like more than a 1/3 of a switch price

It's just because of the exchange rates, $80 USD is actually the equivalent to $100.97 CAD, so it's actually 97 cents cheaper in Canada

Dude, I had gone back and watched so many of your videos after my left joy-con started drifting so bad that it was unusable. I have a pro controller and an 8bitdo controller, so at the time the drift got that bad I was really only needing the joy-cons for portable mode. The little $20 job with the d-pad has saved my life...I didn't spend any more than I felt like I should have been for what I was getting, and it does exactly what I need it to do.

I honestly am kinda crazy about picking up different controllers for different games on the Switch (stuff like the SN30 Pro for retro games, the M30 for Genesis games/fighters, the Binbok as a Pro controller style set for my second dock) and they always have *something* wrong with them. For what it's worth though, I do like the Binbok controller the most for general play., even if the DPad makes me want to hurl it out a window sometimes lol

I am the same. The new BinBok version 2 fixes the D-pad and home button wake-up function, btw. I don't have the M30, but the original wireless Sega Mega Drive controllers from Nintendo for Switch in both editions (3 button edition from Europe & 6 button edition from Japan). The D-pad on the Sega Mega Drive controllers, especially the 6 button edition, is almost perfect. Is the D-pad of the SN30 Pro really better than the Sega-style D-pad for retro games?

I have a YCC Team "pro controller" that I LOVE. I bought it because it has 1) turbo, 2) motion control, 3) rumble and 4) a home button that wakes up the switch! The first one I bought said in the listing it had the home button feature, but when I got it, it didn't. I emailed them through Amazon, and they apologized. They said the listing was wrong and they were going to fix it. They had me order the correct one and refunded the purchase price. I did not have to ship back the original one. I've modded it by adding additional rumble motors for a strong feel, and I've put buttons on the back and disabled the button the joysticks because I have issues with pressing the joystick when I shouldn't. And the battery life is great. I really love it.

I thought about getting these kinds of controllers until I thought to go around to my local pawn shops. I saw many knock off pro controllers until I saw a legitimate one in the mix for $26. I thought it was too good to be true, but I got home and tried it out. Nothing wrong with it at all. Real good find. I also found a pair of Mario red Joy-Cons for $25. Upon testing them, I found out the left one didn't charge. So, I swap batteries with another left Joy-Con to use it wirelessly and for some reason it charges again. I'm assuming that's why they were priced as such since so far they've been working as intended. Absolute steal.

It also has a bit of trouble connecting wirelessly but we were able to get it to work. also of note, the rumble motors were god awful, worst ive ever seen/heard/felt. they were super tiny and only vibrated full blast. they made a super loud high pitched buzzing sound, so i just pulled them off the board.

I love the binbok joycons and controller. Their new clear versions of both are so much fun and then they also added a slimmer version of their joycons if you don't want as much bulk. I enjoy the bulky ones since the joystick is offset from the A,B,X,Y buttons instead of in line so I don't have to move my hand to press any of them like I do with original joycons or the slim versions of binbok's. I am one of the weird ones who doesn't like the original joycons that much. Mostly because all four sets I own have horrible drift and calibration issues, even after only a couple hours of use (my Animal Crossing ones I only got to use for an hour before they became useless). My knockoff joycons have held up so much better and still going two years later.

I have a set of those grey nockoffs from YCC or whatever. Also took it a part and were disappointed they have a soldered joystick you cant replace 🙁

I actually got Bin Boks after watching your channel, and maybe you haven't had any issues, but these things are prone to disconnecting fairly often, and they don't do the "click" when connecting to the Switch a lot of the time, so they slide off without having to push the release button. They're great when they work, but they're definitely not as good as you make them seem. I'm still waiting for some other alternative.

I got one of those controllers that look identical to the switch pro controllers and it worked great for a while, but one day the left thumb stick decided it wasn’t going to work and I have no idea why

I have the smaller-sized (bigger than a joy con, but not as big as a Split Pad) BinBok controllers. Nigh unusable dpad and while sticks are bigger, half of the additional travel they have over the joycons sits right in a big fat dead zone. Since they also offer less resistance than the tiny sticks of the joycons, they actually manage to feel way less precise and reliable. Thanks to their bigger profile they also get in the way of the buttons. They are terrible.

I have the Hori Split Pad Pro but I don't think those really qualify. I really like them except for the omission of motion controls and wireless

I love the Bin Bok ones. I recently nabbed a knock off pro controller off Ali Express. Has the logos and everything, even on the box. Everything seems to work fine, control sticks work fine, but it doesn’t have the ability to wake the Switch, which is moderately annoying.

I mostly use the pro controller. Surprisingly my pair of joycons from 2017 still work well. I’ve been lucky I’ve just had such bad luck with third party controllers from back in the day I never buy or consider the knockoffs. Only Original controllers for me. Maybe things are better now but I’ve always found third party to be a little worse in something or the other

They usually don’t have nfc readers or infrared sensors. That’s the problem. I do like the Mario one I bought with an actual d-pad though.

I have a controller I really like called Nyco mini pro controller. It's like a small version of the switch pro controller. I have very short fingers so I find it hard to reach the buttons on a regular pro controller. I'm not sure if it would feel awkward in larger hands or not but it's only like $30 so a pretty good budget controller. Plus it has motion controlls and rumble. It's my favorite to use for mariokart and stardew valley for some reason

The ones I bought first and really like are the “Chereeki Joy Con for Switch”. I played Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition with them and didn’t notice any annoyance while using them. Just too bad that the Amazon site I frequent (an European Amazon) put them down, so I can’t get more of them.
