@@draco2174 The specific may not apply but the general points of focus are the same. Take 2-3 champions and work on them. I play Teemo, Sett and Malphite pretty much exclusively and apply what Curtis says with a little bit of molding for it to fit Top. Wave management, warding and objectives work differently and I think there are way more matchup variations because everything is played Top, but it's still mostly applicable. As long as you review your games, you should be able to improve a lot :]

I've always had an issue with playing on tilt, and you've actually helped me figure out why. I played league out of habit, and it turns out the reason I got so easily tilted is because I actually didn't enjoy the solo que experience even if I was winning. It probably was never your intention but you did actually help me put my priorities straight after I fell into the soloq habit again because of being bored during quarantine : ^). But your lectures are exceptional and I'll probably keep watching because you're very interesting to listen to

In my case, I was stuck between Gold II and III when I found your channel and I have improve a lot since then and even my friends have told me that. I'm currently stuck at mid Plat IV, so I'm watching again your content and trying to apply it consistently in all my games. I think the most challenging thing for me is to make time to play enough ranked games, watch content and my replays, as I have a full time job, but if I have improved a lot in such a short period, I can still get better at the game and that is mainly because of your content, so thank you a lot Curtis!

19:00 answering this question as i came from a period where i wasn't reviewing any games at all I think most of this comes from the stress of day to day life. This semester my life was super stressfull, using most hours of my day to college+work, and when i had a little bit of spare time i used it to play 2 or 3 games with my wife and friends instead of focusing in improving. Even though i watch your content and wanted to improve i just didn't had the mental fortitude to endure the stress of soloQ after something like 14hours straight of high mental energy expenditure I think this happens with many other people, where they do want to improve, but given the current situation of their routine, maybe they prefer to socialize with others instead of focus on improvement ( specially since *interpersonal relationships* are a more basic need than *self-fulfillment* needs, where league rank falls onto, according to the Maslow's hierarchy of needs)

Dude, I was 100% a Malder. I've never seen somebody with a worse mental than mine, I'd feel like the game was over after missing one cannon (not an exaggeration btw). What helped me was understanding the reasoning behind my tilt. I was hardstuck in d2 and it was pretty sad since I studied the game for so long (prob watched 5-6k vods over the years instead of playing the game) and I started to realize that this excessive studying of vods made me have a deterministic approach (the game should technically be over after I missed the cannon and got a bad base, but it isn't how things go). When it clicked that I am playing with and versus humans, the idea that the game ended after a cannon started to slowly disappear, and I'm pretty confident that I'll reach GM this season just by untilting. Your videos helped a shit ton, if I ever get Challenger, it'll be because of you. And it's strange, I never learned anything completely new or revolutionary (since I watch vods 24/7 in my free time), but the way you present the concepts is so good that it organizes my brain in way and make things feel a lot simpler and make the synapses use less energy (if that makes sense). Thank you for your videos my friend

i have this problem too, but with me is a little different, i aways get tilted because i know that i play better than my opponent, but i make little mistakes because in league there are million thinks to pay attencion, and i have Attention Deficit Disorder, and because of that is so difficult for me to remember all these thinks, and after i do some shit, i aways get tilted

@@pedroa9105 I probably have ADHD too, but it's not impairing enough to be worth being diagnosed or anything. I usually get caught up in anger very easily because of it and can't play while talking, listening to music, etc. Anything that takes me out of the "zone" turns a game into a loss.

I think many people WISH to climb, consume content passively. But most of em are not ready to put the hard effort in and be proactive (hardcore reviewing, setting up learning objectives). And then the result is: "I WATCH all your content, but i still cant climb." The reason for some ppl losing ranks might be overcomplication things, cause they now know, what they should focus on, but dont really apply it like stated above. In the end, you as a coach provide us with GREAT content (Im a school teacher myself), and its our responsibility as viewers to use it properly. You as a coach can only take our hand, we have to "jump" ourselves. Great work, keep it up!

I've been stuck in Low Platinum all season after being Diamond IV at the end of last season. I had accepted that I just belonged into that elo and stopped playing for a few months. Then I found your videos and they already helped me so much. I stopped focusing so much on what others do wrong and just try to always think ahead of what I have to do to win. Since I've started watching your content I also became so much better at not only accpeting, but also identifying my own mistakes. Wave management is also a huge deal and while I am far from perfect, I've won some lanes because I actually watch the waves (crazy, I know). Your mid lane itemization video was the best movie I've seen in 2020! I've always struggled in certain match-ups and it's crazy how much difference it makes once you really look at the long-term benefit of certain starting items. Keep it up and thank you!

in my case... i was pressuring myself too much with the game.. i play TF mid.. so if (for example) my top died i couldnt avoid feeling guilty by not helping him on time and end up tilted thinking that we already lost... but later i understood that that is not the way league works.. we can win with a 0 - 8 top or jungler if we trade (macro trading) properly.. i needed to realize that just because someone died several times it does not mean that is a bad player nor is just trolling

Hey Coach, I would like to say that I have recently stumbled upon your channel as I recently switched my main roll as adc to the mid lane. I was sitting at b3 21lp an in only a handful of games I have made my way to silver promos. One of the biggest issues I faced was my ego. I would lose lane before it even started. For example I pick yasuo, the enemy then chooses a heavy poke champ such as a lucian or a orianna. I would think to myself I can win. I would take conq an start d blade. How ever after watching some of your videos I have started taking more defensive runes an taking d shield now. That alone I've seen such a massive change in laning phase, I don't go for the risky plays because in my mind I'm just sustaining an farming until I hit item spikes. There's just one thing I am struggling with at the moment. 2 of my last 3 losses were due to purely not knowing what to do with my lead I gained in lane when the enemy adc an top are ahead as well. In this elo it's hard to get people to play safe an farm. I can't be all over the map an it get demoralizing when you try an do your best. But just can't quite get the rest of my team to pull some weight. I Happen to be in oce as well and would seriously love if you could maybe coach an review some of my games, I have no problem with you uploading it an using my mistakes as an example. I love your work and best of luck with the future of this channel mate

Hey man, I resonated heavily with the advice of using a second account to play solo q on to unwind after some bad or unfortunate games on my main account (d3-d2 elo) and I honestly think that everyone should that more - It often helps you recognize how better you can play if you are in a confident state of mind causing you to punish mistakes a lot more compared to respecting people too much in the context of just not choosing to punish some questionable decision from the enemies because you're afraid that you'll fail, etc. It's a very good method for mental resets and if you have bad games but still want to play league for whatever reason, a second account to play solo q on with an improved mental will help you have fun while teaching you some things here and there.

This is so true, first time I made a secondary account to sort of reset myself after a loss or two on main. I played way better on my secondary account and ended up stomping my games. But I was more calm and collected, less auto piloting as well.

Altough my main role is ADC, I usually watch other roles content so I learn how to play against them, and also, I can improve in my secondary role (mid). You are defenitely one of my favourites, but I also think that it does not matter if you watch 20hs videos and when you loose a game you just quit, my point is that you'll need to put a lot of effort to climb. Since I started waching you I climbed from Silv 4 to Plat 3(current). Keep it up!!! You are amazing!!

Your videos help me a lot, especially the Jungle tracking guide. Jungle is extremely alien to me, I don't ever play it, nor do I like it. I didn't know junglers' pathing or timings before, but thanks alone to that video, I can usually tell where the enemy jungler is in the first 5 mins, and I can ward to be useful to my team. Your other videos are very interesting too, some of them I can use, some of them I can not - usually because auto-pilot turns on if I'm not careful. I actually think auto-piloting and not rewatching own games is biggest obstacle for players not improving. I usually rewatch the games that I lost, to see where I messed up. In the end, people often tunnel-vision on one thing (sometimes me too), and forget all the little things that we have to watch out for during games. Your videos are like a thousand pages but fun school book, but learning from the book only becomes value once people put them to actual practice. I think you are on a great way, keep up the good work! :) And keep your positivity, it is what made me loyal to you and your teachings :D

Hey Coach Curtis, I am a toplane main came back from 2.5 year break and I was stuck in Plat for a while. After watching your guides on fundamentals, I was able to reach D4 with 71% wr with one champion today. The reason why I am mentioning my winrate is because i was not able to achieve over 55% in my past seasons on any champion. I took your advice and limited the champion pool to 1 and studied every matchup and interactions. Especially your video on tempo really made me to respect the objective timing, reset timing, death timer, walking speed on tier 2 boots. Since my mechanic is literally bad because I'm a relatively old player, so learning about the macros really did help me to climb. Don't get me wrong, I know that I am still bad but this was my personal goal so I just wanted to comeback to your channel and say thank you. I am going to queue up now to try to get out of d4 now.

This video is another example why you and your content are so great. Who else makes such a video, especially for non-paying people? Huge props and thanks to you! Regarding the topic and the initial question: my biggest issue is that your videos make so much sense and I try to focus on improving 1-2 things at a time, but most of my games just become a crazy fiesta where all logic and sanity is thrown out the window and I desperately try (and sometimes fail) to sort of guide my team into not throwing the game by calling out the next meaningful objective, calling off crazy 1v5 actions, and so on. For example, I had a game two days ago where we killed three opponents midlane and all their midlane towers were still up. While I wanted to get towers, my midlaner recalled with the reason "makes no sense, there are no platings anymore". So I proceeded to push two towers myself als J4 jungle. Imagine what we could have gotten with the whole team. Stuff like this happens all the time in games - of course not only in my teams but also the enemy teams; however, it makes it super hard for me to focus on myself and improving when all you do is being the firefighter trying to put out forest fires. I know because of the Coach that focussing on the first 10-15 minutes is the important thing here, as it is the time window in which you have more control over how your lane and in which direction the game develops, but those 10-15 minutes usually get vastly overshadowed by everything that follows once the laning phase is over. I believe I do have fairly strong mentals, I almost never give up and I hate surrender votes, I want to fight and see if the enemy team can actually translate their lead into a win or not, because let's be honest, hardly anyone is Challenger and even in Challenger you can turn a game around (see the second game in the Dopa Orianna video), everyone makes plenty of mistakes in every game, even the pro players as Coach pointed out in some video, so there is usually a chance. However, turning those games around - or even worse, turning them around and then throwing again and still losing - costs me so much mentally that I am usually not able to focus on improving anymore in the following games. I only play like 2-3 games at a time anyway, but if the first game is like a 45 minute game that goes back and forth ten times, I am exhausted already. I cannot decouple my improving within the first 10-15 minutes from the outcome of the game, even though I know that a positive outcome does not mean that I have improved and a bad outcome does not mean that I haven't improved.

Just wanted to pay for skill caped guides until I found this man. I have specific answer for me to why I'm not doing everything to climb even I want so bad to hit gold (now I'm Silver 2 and seems much harder than before) Because day doesn't have 48 hours and I'm all over the place with my goals why I'm trying to realise this year, exact year when I came back to league after more than 4 years. I want max results for minimum time. And I always thought I know enough for that, I watch tons of guides, pro replays, reading guides but based what I see here I lack playtime on ky champion(s), never practiced cs-ingerenciji but remembered to cs with Malzahar and Annie since, like I said, I'm watching pretty enough of these vides. And I never re-watched any of my games. I think it's least efficient for my time. Maybe now I should I hope not to pay for skill cap after all

16:47 really resonates with me. Low self worth > sacrifice myself > game plan is interrupted > gameplay sucks > low self worth. I used to be stuck in that cycle of self abuse but I stopped sacrificing myself, even when I wanted to, I would tell myself to "just play for KDA." Now the game feels much more consistent since I don't have random deaths trying to save people from their questionable plays.

I haven't had a bad early game as Zed yet! I honestly think that when you do your champion guides, when you go over champion identity probably matters the most. I think your guides are great, as I feel myself getting better.

hey coach, a quick response to your question at 19 minutes about not doing things that you know you should do. From my perspective, I would consider myself a "malder." When I am not tilted I play a couple games, do my review, and the quit for a while. When I'm in this state I play really well and consistently have a high win rate. My problem is when I tilt often I will get into a state where I just rage queue repeatedly even though I know I shouldnt. At this point everything I know I should be doing goes out the window and i'll end up playing 15+ games in a day on tilt even though I know I shouldn't. This is why for the past few months I have had large swings in rank, from up several divisions in a week to below where I started the week after that. I have been struggling with this mentality issue for a while, after watching this video I'm going to try to strictly limit myself to only 3 or 4 ranked games per day. I've identified that usually the way that I get into this state is that I start off in the good state of mind where I only play a few games and then vod review and then slide down a slope of saying "oh i'm playing well, i can play just one more today." I really enjoy the game and have a drive to play, but often when i go down this slope and end up losing a bunch of games suddenly my whole day is gone and I'm kicking myself because I know I did it again. Thanks again for this video and for all the quality content.

When you talked about losing interest to play the same champion, I think it also comes to EGO. They felt like they can master the champions and the games at that particular stage after a winning streak/high win rate. They felt the loss of the sense of challenging and would like to look for another challenge. Then they will fall into the cycle that they felt they have to do it to climb again from GOLD 4 to GOLD 1 with an entirely different champion. That is probably why people have a pool of 20 champions operating very averagely at GOLD 2 let say, and hard stuck. I personally found after listening to your recommendations to play limited champions in rank games do really help a lot in every aspect. Thank you very much :)

You're SO right about the "review your own game" part! You already said it, but hey, I went from blaming my jungler to understanding that my wave management and aggression timind sucked! Now, I still blame my jungle (because of traditions :p) but I do things right and it works well for both of us (mid & jungler)! haha!

It was freaky how close the kfc variety bucket applied to me. I duod with a high elo jungler so he could teach me how to play around a jungle better and understand how important certain goals like having a camp advantage or a laner having prio is to a jungler . At the same time I changed from a farm and carry mid champ pool to more of a skirmish and map control champ pool by adding sylas and galio to my champ pool. I just think it is crazy how much this portion of the video relates to my soloq experience as of recently. Also if you are reading this Curtis, you should make a video solely on midlaner/ jungle interactions and how to play around a jungler. You mention it here and there but as far as I know haven’t made a video on just that concept. I think a lot of people will benefit greatly from it :)

i personally swapped mid from adc three months ago, picked up a totally new champ pool (zoe blindpick and qiyana for ad champ) , trained every mid concept you talk about in your videos for around 2 months on a low diamond smurf and then played on my main account and went from D3 to high D1 with around 68% winrate over 31 games (22 zoe and 9 qiyana) in a span of 2 weeks (can't play much because i work during the day) but to do that i've been putting the effort, taking notes of every concept and learning well my champ identity and matchups, watching pro replays to learn trading patterns etc now i can't play for the rest of season 10 for personal reason but in S11 i'm coming back to league and aiming for grandmasters (euw)

Well I mean, I am a little bit late on this one, but I can defenetly say, that after just some of your videos, my wave management actually got soo much better, before I discovered your channel I pretty much just tried to get as many lasthits as possible, while now keep in mind how the lane will be pushing to me and what I want to happen, so personally I can that your videos are insanely useful. Oh and also don't be sad because some people still can't climb after your vids, its really not possible to do that, like first of all people forget a lot, so they probaly watched it once and then just forgot and there is a big difference between knowing stuff and actually using it in game, so even if you know: how to track the enemy jungler, when to gank, how to trade and how to manage waves, if ur not using any of this in your game and just do random shit, it wont change a thing. I think the majority of the people (from reading comments) find you really helpful and already learned a ton.

It is very true tho that it isn't as easy to apply as it sounds in your videos, but without doubt it helps. I made it to escape d4 (reaching d3 30 lp) and now due to University I was remoted to p1 for inactivity, and a couple of days ago I easily came back to d4

I haven't watched the video yet but I just want you to know that your content are the most in depth and through guides on game mechanics, macro and even champion guides. I play pretty much just Viktor and TF and when I found your channel after a month I went from being hard stuck bronze1/silver4 constantly bouncing between the two to gold 4 and my computer broke and have to save to fix it now(you probably made me too good and my computer couldn't handle the increase in skill and principles applied) but once I get it fixed I feel as though I can confidently climb to at least plat4 now and I can't wait to go for that climb. Your guides are fucking great but some people don't want to take the time to learn the concepts that you lay out so easy to digest. Ive seen many of your videos on some concepts more than once just because I feel like there's so much information in your videos you have to watch and listen to them multiple times to fully grasp the concepts you're getting at. Not everyone is going to want to put in that effort and that's not something you, yourself can fix. It's just the human condition. Thank you for all the work and effort you put into your content.

This was super helpful and I’m so amazed with your content. I’m currently hard stuck silver 2/3 but I haven’t played ranked in a few weeks. My skull has greatly improved though to where I’m am consistently winning lane and roams as well as objectives through map awareness although I feel I really need to watch the map more. I have decided to grind ranked with Viktor, Sylas, and Yasuo. I’ll let you know how it goes and my problem with reviews is I was always too lazy or had friends waiting to play with me so I just never made time. I also played a lot of duo but I too do better solo. Thanks again

My problem with your content is this. To climb I have to change. And change is not an easy thing. I mean. There are some rules to climb that you have to follow through. Will I be able to embrace those rules? That question doesn't apply only to soloQ. It's a life matter.I hope it happens... But what I know for sure is that I'm not lost anymore and I can tell you the main problems why I don't climb. And that is worth gold to me. So thanks Coach.

As soon as you explained who malders are, I immediately identified with it a 100%. I have already tired implementing some of the things you talked about such as playing 3-4 games only and muting to not tilt. I have huge swings from d1-d3. the point about not thinking about lp and focusing on improving makes so much because I feel so drained after a huge swing.

Thanks so much for the content Curtis! I've been Watching almost a video a day since I found your stuff a month ago and I love the detail you go into, and the way you think about the game. I definitely am one of the people you mentioned who knew I should be VOD reviewing, but just wasn't. Since watching this video I've committed to reviewing 80% of my Ranked games and it's already paying some great dividends. For me, the reason I wasn't doing it was because I wanted to get better, but only in the fun way. Like I wanted to play Ranked and adjust my play style, and then just get better by playing the game. Playing is fun, but VOD reviewing isn't as fun so I tried to put all of my getting better resources into the fun part of it. I think that everyone has an axis of how much they're trying to have fun and how much they're trying to improve. If someone is truly looking for how to make the most gains, they probably need to adjust that scale slightly more to the improve side, but make sure the process is still fun enough that they don't get burnt out. Thanks again for all that you do!

@Curtis You've content is great. I think mentality is also apart of the issue. A ton of people do not have the mental fortitude to lose 13 games straight and trust in the process of improving. Honestly Curtis you're doing a really awesome thing here giving out content people would pay for with virtually no gain other than building a community and helping people climb. Before finding you I was honestly close to quitting league but you restored my love for the game. (Even if those matches with AFKs hit another type of way.) But even then I just try to stay focused and review the afk vod, maybe my gameplay could have made them not AFK if I was playing better. Thanks again and keep up the great work. -G3 player working to D4

Something to consider is mental blocks. I know Curtis has made a video about it but I started watching Curtis several months ago every other week because I was stuck in gold 3 in solo queue. Last season, I peaked at platinum 4 and I just couldn't get it back into it this season, establishing a 45% winrate after placements that proceeded through to my next 50 or so matches. I was searching through Curtis' videos to find the most probably reason as to why I was struggling so hard to get back to a rank which I had previously hit in the last season -- it really dumbfounded me. I then realized after skipping parts or whole videos, watching streamers, asking my girlfriend who also plays for advice, that my issue was that I was focusing too much on my specific mistakes every match against gold players and subconsciously bashing myself down for making them telling myself that I won't get platinum if I keep it up. Since I began school and entitled a new source onto which to focus my attention I have started playing in solo queue again and suddenly all the info that I've absorbed through Curtis' videos is hitting me and I am carrying from the midlane more than ever. I have increased my winrate from 45% to 51%, (Gold 3-gold 1) in a matter of days. TL;DR: Detatch yourself from the game every once in a while when you feel like you're doing all that you can. Take breaks between matches, practice breathing exercises, and remind yourself that climbing is nearly impossible while under the influence of self depreciation.

for the review part, highlight tools are really nice and then using in game replay to see the whole picture. one thing that i use to do that was really impactful was using a stop watch during games to constantly hit specific time marks for things around the map as a jungler or a laner. doing this will make you realize you can blind check certain things under specific circumstances and know okay this will happen x% of the time under x situations.

I have found that it's the little details, the smallest things, little comments and tips that you just kinda mention off-hand, have made the most significant difference for me. Like, "and maybe you'll wanna turn on the Attack Champions Only keybind for that. Anyway..." and I'm like, "Woah wait, what? That exists?" And suddenly my win rate increases. Or, "Don't ward like that, ward here. Then you can see around this corner." And I'm like, "Oh. Duh. DUH!" and my win rate increases. There are lots of little things in League that you have pointed out, which seem like they should be obvious, but aren't. That is how I have been most helped by your videos.

Your content made me understand this game in a rational and logical way, made me think about taking decisions that actually make sense and minimize autopiloting. And I am very thankful I found someone on yt who he is very good at explaining stuff like an educator and has the will to do it. I started playing ranked again at the beggining of august after a month break. I climbed from silver II to Gold III, and I can certainly assure that your content contributed aswell to this succes, because it has reinforced the knowledge and skill that deteriorated during break. Wish you power and wisdom for your further plans.

While watching this I recognized immediately I am a Malder. I'll definitely pick up the tips you've recommended and try to improve. I need to utilize the mute button more in game and definitely keep to myself during solo queue. A lot of the times I'll be in a call while playing and it's so distracting, I need to just start closing it out when I play. Also the learning objectives for each individual game is going to be a must as well, and for vod review I'm going to start identifying how I went about executing on those specific ones. Thanks a ton Coach Curtis!

Your content is great man, I appreciate the amount of work you put into it. I was plat for 3 years and even got diamond previous season and now I'm somehow stuck in gold 1-3. I played really lazy this season picking up champs i have no idea how to play thinking I would have no problem going back to plat. And little did I know I struggle a lot for a few months now. I almost hit plat playing mid (my mains) now, really happy it costed me no effort but gold I 80 lp and I got such a loose streak I ended in gold2. It was frustraiting cause I was convinced I play better than my opponent all the time and I had trolls and feeders nearly each game. So I'm mad when I see a guy in enemy team who has like 5/15 and wins game. Its sick, I never feed that much, its like spending half a game dead. Anyway I realize no challenger would have problems getting out of losing streak in gold so there must be some issues. And for the first time in my life, and I play since season 3 I started reviewing my games and even manage to realize what I do wrong so I hope I will benefit much from that and see results. I will let you now. Thank you for your content

Curtis : I'm basically very bad with in-game things Also Curtis : 1 hour tutorial about how to play Twisted Fate More seriously, I also know I should review games to climb, and I don't, and I feel like most theorical stuff is hard, exhausting and sometimes even boring, and that's why people don't do it even if they know they should. The same way very few people like school actually. I guess we could compare like this : you want to make your house look better. You could shovel the sonow out of your front door, but it's exhausting and repetitive. So you'd rather try to go to the mall trying to get the best christmas decorations, which is highly more exciting. Even though you know you should shovel up, because it's basic maintenance. I'd rather play it out than spend time reviewing. Anyway thanks a lot for the great content coach, can't wait for you to turn to support rôle coaching eventually.
